Bill Burr White Guilt and Racial Stereotypes in Movies
My black friend likes to talk about chicken and watermelon, and then we (group of friends/coworkers of varied races/nationalities/sexualities) ALWAYS laugh. Why do we always laugh? It's not fake or even nervous laughter -- he's just a goddamn funny dude; goes around doing a combination of Urkel and Denzel.
His story is the story of a black man that came to White/Asian Irvine California to teach the other races how to laugh -- and to pick up on hot Asian women near UCI. Sort of the opposite of the Hilarry Swank movie in all regards.
I've lived in areas of Orange County where it was very white and very racist, parts of the American "South" where it was very white and very racist, parts of Orange County where it was very hispanic and very racist, and parts of Orange County where it was so racially diverse no one really cared a goddamn what you look like, other than if you were a nerd or a jock.
Perception of racial issues depends almost entirely on where you live.
Americans tip best, dress worst (Worldaffairs Talk Post)

sounds like bullshit nationalism mixed with hefty bits of libertarian assholery.
Hot damn! You go girl!
I'll add my own theory for why this survey might be accurate: income inequality. Our rich and famous are vastly more rich than Europe's. Most Americans staying in European hotels are going to be particularly likely to be disproportionately more wealthy than the rest of the people who stay there.
We're also very in love with dominance games, and being a big tipper in a swank European hotel is more about trying to send the message that you're rich and important than it is an indicator of some other aspect of personality.

You forgot "And vanishes into the dark of night like my Dad did when I was 7."
(P.S. If you dad really did leave you at age seven, I'm sorry.)

Classical, Educated, Brilliant, Refined, A real Gentleman. Yes these are words I would never use to describe Dotdude. Oh I know you've seen him at swank social gatherings and posh dinners but in reality he lives a lie. You see 'artist' is just another word for 'homeless'. We all know that the difference between a pizza and an artist is that the pizza can feed a family of four. Poor dotdude can barely feed himself.
So if you see Dotdude on the streets of New Orleans, trying to sell scribblings of a LOLcat on a dinner napkin. Tell him his mom called and that she doesn't want him to come home again, ever. And while your at it why not buy a LOLcat napkin for a couple cents, you can always throw it away later.

We had adwords before we went to the 2.0 design. We've thought about putting them back in, but they haven't been super effective.
If we do so again, we'll probably hide them from registered users as we do with all ads. We really don't want to plaster the site with ads.
Although I would love a swank VS t-shirt, I can't imagine they would be a huge revenue earner.
Without going too much into the financial details - it's a bit of a riddle - we're growing at a rate that requires more resources (human and server) than we have available - but we need to grow even bigger to get the economies of scale that would support VS financially for that growth.
I think a lot of sites are part of a flotilla of different sites, each supporting the other (think gawker) VS is a bit different in that it's just us.
