That is a phenomenal first-hand story and well told.

HOWEVER

I am totally buying what he retold what the Watchowskis were selling him. That sounded awesome. He clearly wasn't the right audience for that kind of talk.

Maybe he'll star in the remake the studio is working on (without the Wachowskis). I know no details about that one and can only assume it's going to pale in comparison to the original.

You won't have to. They pay, you make a ton of money, and then they take most of it. (after all, they have to pay for all the things in the credits at the end.

(edit) Watching others from the same radio station, seems they have a studio type set up for these musical performances. Recording quality seems amazing.

Sure, why not? I mean...have you ever seen the footage of a clearly exhausted Matt Damon coming into LAX with his wife and kids---and quietly, but tiredly, asking TMZ video and the paparazzi to please leave them alone on this pass because: kids and tired?

It's hard to be sympathetic all the celebrities--they want attention and then they don't. But everyone who was hunted by cameras all the time---well, why not ask your agent to get the studio to pay for this?

That would work as a Netflix series or something.

I mean it's not so different from Riverdale or Sabrina. I'd be surprised if some studio exec doesn't decide to run with this.

It's also worth mentioning I don't want to just demonize Pixar, there exists an abundance of examples outside of the Pixar studio. The most obvious among them is in Shrek

it's called a foldback mix. standard operating procedure in the studio. why they're using MTH-A50s is the real question.

This can't be a gag; it's too expensive for that---that many studio musicians, called at Union scale, plus the recording studio time, then the sound engineer's time...
What are the economics of this? Why does it wonderfully exist?

Cleaner better sound of the sound board mix than just using the studio monitors.

They are in the recording studio, everything is going trough the mics. This is a live recording performance.
