I've always been a fan of comedy that requires the audience to work out the joke. Steven Wright is a perfect example:

"No matter what temperature it is in a room, it's always room temperature."
"I once walked into a restaurant. They said they served breakfast any time. So I had pancakes during the Renaissance."

Also, comedians that can engage with a good story. Cosby, Larry Miller, etc.

Great funny stuff. Steven Wright-like but less monotone.

An excellent examination of how status is used in comedy. Whether it be racism, or jokes towards "retards", pedophilia, etc., by downgrading one set, you achieve an implied status in the other. This can also work if it is self-deprecating; look at the works of John Pinette.

My personal favorite type of comedy though is what I call "intellectual comedy," comedy that requires the audience to participate by thinking, and making the bridge to getting the joke. A good example would be Steven Wright or Mitch Hedberg.

I was thinking Steven Wright too - though, I think Carr is funnier - IMHO. *nsfw

that's the thing, there's no highs and lows, it just starts low and gets higher every second until you piss yourself. haven't seen many other routines like it... any comedy sifters care to recommend someone?

random humour?... I think they're called non-sequitur actually. Steven Wright is good but I think Mitch Hedberg was funnier though.
