What a great SteadiCam--oh, wait...
the "brain" itself will be ~$30K min. you need lenses, batteries/power supplies, drives to record to, viewfinders, cables, etc. on top of that. a steadicam rig will cost $50K+ too. the famous zeiss lens kubrick used (borrowed from NASA) cost over $23M (adjusted for inflation).
professional cameras are expensive. alexa and red are super cheap in comparison to traditional film camera set ups.
Wow. If you have a minute; what gets a camera up to that cost? the sensors? the glass?
VideoSift Sarzy's Top Ten Movies of 2014
I did indeed. I liked it, but it didn't really connect with me, for some reason. Which is weird, because I love long steadicam shots, I quite like Alejandro González Iñárritu, and I'm a huge Michael Keaton fan, so I was pretty much expecting it to be my favourite movie of the year. Maybe my expectations were too high.
Did you not see Birdman? Best movie I've seen in a long while.
The greatest piece of filmmaking you'll see this week
You're right, a long take isn't anything special on its own. I think the framing, camera movement, intricate choreography, and overall complexity make this a noteworthy shot. Is it the greatest steadicam shot ever? No, which is why I didn't call this something hyperbolic like "the greatest shot you'll ever see" or even "the greatest shot you'll see this year." But it is a bravura piece of filmmaking and certainly worth watching. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for complex tracking shots, though.
Having not seen the show yet, the clip was somewhat confusing. But what confuses me more is the tag; "greatest piece of film making you'll see this week, or next week, or the week after." A single take - of whatever length - does not constitute great film making. It is the content of the shot that makes it great. And, tbh, the scene was nothing we haven't seen before.

Yeah, saw this and was very, very impressed-Great finale to the episode and this is a very well-acted show with the chemistry between M and H-Have to watch it again now knowing and remembering why this scene was so tight...
Setting up that shot must have been incredible-
Another one that comes to mind was Snake Eyes (1998)
Director: Brian De Palma
Steadicam operator Larry McConkey's 12.5 minute opening steady-cam shot is pretty incredible-An otherwise mediocre film but one of my favorites-Watched the long shot again and and the set-ups pretty insane...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
Very neat stuff. Evidently starts at around $7K which I guess is cheap for steadicam.

I still need to see this movie.
It's a movie that won't disappoint, so make sure you do see it! Defiantly, one of Martin Scorsese's great films and that is saying something.
The "magic" tag helps define the feeling your left with after seeing this film so its use is well used here, for many reasons well deserved and earned...
Personally, I found it to be HUGELY overrated. I really came away from it going 'meh, it was ok'.
* I really disliked the forced colour palette of teal and orange
* I disliked that it was set in France, and yet everyone spoke English
* I found the story just basic fare, with just the fact that it was saying how life changing and wondrous film was being the thing which probably made those in the industry think it was the best thing in the world because it made their profession seem more important than it was.
* I found the humour (especially that of Sasha Baron Cohen's character) to be pretty low level slapstick.
I didn't hate it, but it's not a film I would chose to watch again. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if it weren't so hyped as being the second coming of christ.

For some reason, the animated trailer (didn't know it had non-animated parts either) didn't excite me but then I saw its reviews and high ratings.

Gyroscopic self-leveling pool table on A cruise ship - WOW!
Too bad this wasn't shot with a steadicam. Would have stayed level with the table.
Rollercoaster "Poker Face"
Yeah....that would be OK....But I kinda want see some of those moanin bitches that papple was talkin about, that would be gold too...amIright?

You know what would make this video gold? If he had had a steadicam that keeps the face centered and lets the scenery move around it.

Kids play on suspension bridge during storm
That was amazing. Galloping Gerty INDEED!
I wondered about the camera -- steadicam of some sort? bolted down? the camera operator has super human strength?
