Trolling A Homophobic Preacher

ChaosEngine says...

The dictionary disagrees with you
homophobia
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

But for the sake of argument, elaborate.

Why is being anti-gay different from homophobia? And why isn't this preacher homophobic?

He clearly has an aversion to homosexuality and is advocating discrimination against it. Unless you can provide a rational reason for this (hint: "because my imaginary friend said so" does not count as a rational argument), I'd say he falls squarely under the definition of homophobic.

Being anti gay is not the same as homophobic.

The preacher is not homophobic.

Skating the unskateable

SFOGuy says...

I assume (but don't know)---in the San Francisco sequence as he psychotically departs from the intersection of Hyde and Chestnut Street down the Hyde St cable car tracks towards the Ghiradelli Square/Aquatic Park area---that the black thing he is holding in his hand is some sort of control of for a disc brake on the rear wheels? The rotors and pads of which...would be glowing red hot and dripping bits of flaming debris as he comes to a stop before being mashed to by crossing traffic on Bay street at the bottom of the hill? Sort of like in those emergency runway brake tests they do for airliners?

ehmmm, how do you stop? The board won't ride outside the rail and you can't turn to scrub off speed.

Do you just hope for a kind run out and then bail?

Millennial Home Buyer

kir_mokum says...

a detached home where i live is about $2.5 million. a 500 square foot condo is about a half million. so for kids today to be able to afford their own place, they need a pretty solid career early on and then save until they aren't kids anymore to be able to afford it.

the home in the first part of the video would be in the $6+ million range. the shithole at the end would still be $1 million.

What kids today can't afford a house today? This is a joke right?

I grew up in the Westboro Baptist Church.

Don't most of you know that Christians are required to murder you if you don't worship properly, or try to leave Christianity?

How about Deuteronomy 17:
Deuteronomy 17
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
Or Deuteronomy 13:
6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.
12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the Lord your God is giving you to live in 13 that troublemakers have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. You must destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock. 16 You are to gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt.
Or Numbers 31, where God commands the Israelites to attack Midian and kill all the men, all the married women and all the male children but to keep the virgin females as the spoils of war and distribute them among the soldiers. The reason offered for that barbarism? Two Midianite women had allegedly “tempted” two Israelite men to worship other gods.

Christians consistently ignore the inconvenient parts unless they work to further their current prejudices. I've never heard of a Red Lobster or Gap being firebombed for selling shellfish or mixed fabrics, but gays..stone em, burn em, bomb em, and stone them some more over the same instructions they otherwise ignore. Mowing your lawn on Sunday is actually worse than homosexuality by my reading, but no one gets harassed for that.

U2 ZooTV Outside Broadcast opener

ulysses1904 says...

Same here, this album and tour had an enormous impact on me. I saw them in Boston and Providence at the beginning of this tour and it inspired me to start creating animations and editing videos. I tuned out after Zooropa too, the only songs I listen to since then are Mofo and Elevation.

There's a video on Youtube somewhere that I will have to sift if I can find it, it has a lot more material from this era, like the "Eau de Zoo" perfume commercial you see on the Times Square screen (where Bono says "God bless ya, Zoo products")

poolcleaner said:

I love this era of U2. The end of the Brian Eno production days. To be honest, anything before The Unforgettable Fire and after Zooropa is outside my listening zone. Eno changed the band and that's no embellishment, you can find interviews all about how Brian Eno was uncertain about the collab but Bono was so on fire about him being the producer, he was willing to change the direction of the band simply to have him produce.

No single terror attack in US by countries on Trump ban list

bcglorf says...

Came here to say exactly this.

I'll add that Anwar al-Awlaki wasn't just hiding out in Yemen. The Fort Hood shooter was emailing back and forth with him. The attempted bombings in Times Square and of Northwest Airlines flight 253 were also linked back to him. So yeah, there were absolutely guys in Yemen helping launch attacks on American nationals and American soil.

That all said, blanket bans on everyone from the country period is only A answer and mayhaps not THE answer, baby with the bath water and all. Most of our Islamic allies, and the highest percentage of victims of jihadist terrorism are the moderate muslims in those same countries.

greatgooglymoogly said:

He was on the verge of making a point about the radicalization of US Muslims. Remember Anwar al-Awlaki, US citizen killed by drone? Guess which other country he lived in? The countries on the list, with the exception of Iran, all have weak central governments that are unable to prevent large groups of terrorists operating in their country and spreading radical islamic beliefs. I think Egypt and Saudi Arabia should probably be there too just based on their history, but maybe diplomatic considerations were made. Obviously Trump had no concern over diplomatic relaions with Iran.

Cool Judge Being Fair and Reasonable

The defendant was equally calm, reasonable, polite and charming, just a couple of gentlemen squaring away an unpleasant incident. I'd actually watch a program that focused on a courtroom like that.

Trump ass Whooped Clinton fair and square.

I guess they are part of the near 60% of Trumpeteers that don't know she got almost 3 million more votes than Trump, and the only actual voter fraud found was double voting on the Trump side, right? Ignorance is their hallmark, so at least they're consistent.

I don't think you can add the backup in the same comment that you dead the video and have it do what you want... backup might need to come first. The url or embed goes inside the square brackets.

Also you're welcome. I was a lowly n00b when you stopped visiting, and I think there were a few more people around back then. Nice to make your acquaintance too.

mas8705 said:

I've been needing to figure out how that was done. so "*backup=[]" and that will allow the video to get a replacement placed in automatically if anything was to happen to the original.

I'll be sure to do the backup with the dead so that at least videos that are "quick fixes" can be done in a timely fashion.

Thank you Oritteropo. Also it is nice to meet you since I don't I've had the chance to be properly accounted when I was here a few years ago.

New Rule: America Rules, Trump Drools

MilkmanDan says...

Hmm. I agree that Trump is an incompetent egotistical blowhard, who drums up support by drastically overstating America's problems. America doesn't *need* drastic change.

...BUT, American government, particularly at the national level in Washington really is a complete trainwreck that *does* need drastic change. Both of our disgusting parties hold plenty of blame for that.

I think that the short-term damage that a Trump presidency would cause would be mitigated pretty well by the separation of powers, one of the few elements of our government that does function pretty well. And I feel like it is possible that a long-term benefit could be that Republican voters would get a hard-to-ignore lesson that the "ideals" that are spouted by their party leadership don't work. George W Bush was the best thing to happen for the Democrat party in a long time; Trump could finish the party off and let something better replace it.

Hillary is definitely more competent. In the short term, the country would definitely be better off with her at the helm than Trump. But, I don't see any long-term benefits to electing her.

Republicans would have a prime and familiar scapegoat. The legislative branch ground to a standstill with Obama in office, I think it will/would be worse with Hillary. That might actually be a good thing; it could limit the damage that they can do -- and the consequences of a shitty legislative branch are worse than a shitty president, I think.

And the Democrat party, which had a golden fucking opportunity to lead by example and actually do some exciting GOOD things with government to win voters over, instead did every dirty and questionable thing they could to guarantee that Hillary "I am the establishment" Clinton got their nomination.

Neither side deserves to win, and in fact both sides deserve to lose. I'll be voting 3rd party; not that it will accomplish anything.

Democrats, you could have had my vote if you had selected literally anybody other than Hillary. Hell, I'd probably even have voted for Hillary over Trump if she had beat Bernie fair and square without resorting to all the shady stuff (she probably would have won even without that shit).

Republicans, almost the same goes for you -- I'd pretty happily have voted for anybody other than Trump running against Hillary. Well, maybe not creepy-as-fuck Ted Cruz or some other batshit crazy option like Sarah Palin; but pretty much any of the others.

Too late now though.
