Most Lives Matter | Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

SDGundamX says...

@ChaosEngine

I think we're getting a bit far off from the original topic, so I'll try to stay focused on my original point: you're still saying this guy in the video was presented with evidence and refused to change his mind.

He wasn't.

He was asked a rhetorical question to which he spontaneously replied in the way that he felt would be most in line with the thinking of his political party since he knew he was going to be on TV. His throwaway answer triggered your angry throwaway comment and here we are, with you apparently unable to grasp the irony of how your demonizing a group of "wooly thinking" bogeymen (who according to you are responsible for slavery, homophobia, and the drug war among other things) is completely mirroring the rhetoric of all the people in the video who are demonizing the BLM movement and the rhetoric of Trump in general regarding Mexicans, Muslims, etc.

You can see how well that approach is working for the Republicans, so it's baffling to me why you'd take that approach in dealing with something that is a real problem--convincing people to change their minds about beliefs that are deeply held but also based on what others would say is faulty reasoning (but seems perfectly reasonable to the person holding the belief). I think you'll find, along with the Republicans, that this approach of demonizing the "other" (who exists only in your mind--when was the last time you met someone who actually believed they were possessed by demons when they caught a cold?) does nothing to solve problems but in fact exacerbates them instead.

And that concludes all I have to say on the subject. I'll read whatever response you post but won't be replying in this thread again.

Microburst Event Causes Planes to Take Off

shagen454 says...

Yeah, the site I pulled this from insinuated that the planes "spontaneously" flew off unmanned. These planes all had pilots in them trying to navigate the force of the winds. Puts an entirely different spin on the whole situation.

Is Spontaneous Combustion Real?

newtboy says...

I know I've seen this done by someone else where it was done slightly differently with better, more thorough cremation. I think they put the pig in the chair and let it smolder naturally, with the fat melting, wicking into the cloth, and feeding the fire for hours like an oil lamp. This video really looked like the cloth just burned and scorched the pig, but not really '(non)spontaneous pork combustion'.

Kuhn SW 4014 Bale Wrapper

oritteropo says...

The idea of the wrap is to stop rain from damaging the hay, so I doubt it would let moisture out either. The bale shouldn't rot though, since part of the process is that you only bale dry grass (or you risk a haystack fire).

The other way of storing grass is to cut it green and ferment it into silage.

I found that oddly mesmerizing.

I do wonder about the wrap. Does it allow the moister out or would the bail develop rot?

Sorry, I did mean to put up a translation. I'm not 100% sure of this, but it should be close enough to get the idea:

Everybody plays Alphorn on the Mountainside, but at night in the Paul Theater's undercover carpark? The awesome reverberant acoustics simply demanded an encore :-)
Spontaneous session of the backing musician after the performance of "Jumper&Preuss" at Paul-Theater in Straubing (in the south of Germany, in Lower Bavaria). And for all those who can't believe you could top this, there is a second part with an equally unusual wind instrument...
Filmed just as spontaneously, quick and dirty filming, hand-held and without a camera rig - so please excuse any slightly dodgy focusing

Swing Hip Hop. Or Crump Swing. Dance Battle!

gorillaman says...

My ultimate social terror is that one of these fucking things will somehow spontaneously generate itself around me, obliging me to improvise some sort of limb-flailing bullshit in response.

I don't know what sequence of events could lead to that actually happening, but the sight of two lines of people dancing at each other brings me out in the fucking sweats nevertheless.

John Green's Fiery Race Car Disaster

iaui says...

I can't really see what happens but it kinda looks like his car just spontaneously catches on fire. Certainly he overcorrects and causes some undue stress with the car sliding sideways over the ground but... I don't think that should have caused it to start on fire. Basically, I think he's taking a bit more blame for the fire than he should be.

RT-putin on isreal-iran and relations with america

Asmo says...

Okay, so it's not a spontaneous and challenging interview but rather a soapbox for his philosophical meanderings.

And that makes him wrong how..?

A lot of the stuff he says is bang on the money, particular as it regards America's actions and stances. Iran is a perfect example. It wouldn't be climbing back from being a fundamentalist state if the US hadn't deposed the democratically elected leader and installed the Shah all those years ago. Which eventually precipitated Ayatollah Khomeni's rise to power as a fundamentalist leader by overthrowing the Shah... Now Israel, and ergo the US, rail against Iran being able to have nuclear power because they are a rogue state, but they are only a rogue state because of western interventionism.

You might not think much of the guy (I don't personally), but you can assess the truth of his words for yourself can't you? He's saying things that plenty of people think or understand, but few care to actually speak out about it. Yup, it's borderline propaganda, so approach it with a critical eye, but a lot of what he talks about is bang on.

Considering RT is Kremlin funded, I expect he had all these questions in advance. That's how he routinely does it for his domestic news. Also a reason I tend to avoid this 'news' outfit.

Your Brain On Shrooms

All they've ever done for me is make the walls look like they're breathing and make the lighting brighten and dim spontaneously. so for me kind of a waste of time and they taste like shit.
