I'd guess that this particular guy would happily trade the legal ramifications, which he may still receive, instead of the shit i imagine he is getting now from every corner of his world. Seems to me there is ample evidence, without the victims desire to prosecute him, and I assume there may be plenty of pressure to do so. He went and stole from a highly prolific internet star hugely popular within the thief's sphere of peoples, i'd imagine. EVERYONE in his community (neighbors,friends,work,church,the social media world, etc.) know of this video and surly he will feel the wrath of his choices for a long long time. Wouldn't be surprised if he loses any job he might have. Maybe even need to move from being completely ostracized from his community. I could easily see it happening in an especially yee-haw area like Rutherford county, Tennessee. He will forever be infamous with this video following him for eternity. I don't wish that shit on anyone, but you know what they say about the bed you've made.

It's not an apples to apples competition. The bot is cheating because it has perfect knowledge; it can look bounding spheres and exact positions, maybe even knows the enemy cooldowns, etc. Basically it's using an aimbot that can always react faster than a human.

What they need to do is require the bot use vision, either only give it access to the frame buffer, or better yet require it to use a camera pointed at the screen. (some day I'd require it to use a mouse and keyboard)

You are absolutely correct in that "right-wing" politics does not require racism (without getting into a big discussion of how utterly pointless the terms "left" and "right" are in the political sphere).

However, you'd have to be wilfully ignorant not to recognise that there is a strong correlation between racism and political affiliation (especially in the US, which is the context of this discussion), and that's not even getting into the fact that fascism (a right wing ideology) DOES incorporate racism as a core tenet. So yeah, "alt right" is a valid term.

Basically, not all republicans are racist, but pretty much all racists are republican.

I think there are aspects of this that fall into the realm of philosophy.

I personally don't think we can ever have "The Truth" in that ultimate sense. Pretend for a minute that the SUVAT equations (the equations of motion) are completely accurate. I can drop a ball from a certain height and you can time it and we'll find to some degree of accuracy that the equations were right.

The ball and the floor didn't need to calculate anything. Whilst me and you sit there with a stopwatch technical manual, assorted tape measures to find the distance, expensive cameras to figure out when i dropped the ball..... Whilst we are tying down an uncertainty, the ball and floor have already done it.

When you get right down to it, we simply cannot know an exact time. We can never know an 'exact' anything, because now we need to discuss where the "ball" ends and where the "floor" begins on a molecular level. And no matter how much we agree, the uncertainty principle gets us in the end - we don't and can't know the exact location of fundamental particles. An "exact" anything ends up being a conceptual thing that we can't ever test.

But where i'm going with this is that we're kind of talking about the nature of understanding. We know the volume of a sphere if we know its radius, but how do we create the same sphere accurately? Our brains don't have a resolution, but the tools we use in reality do - reality itself quite possibly has a resolution. We think of minecraft as a blocky, low resolution simulation of an analogue reality. Similarly, i think maths is an 'analogue' (in that it can be "exact") simulation of a limited resolution reality - reality only looks analogue when you don't look very closely.

All that is to say, we DO understand the ball dropping and hitting the floor, but "exactness" is a thing that only exists in the act itself. The only thing left for us to decide is what we consider accurate enough.

Perhaps "god" wanted to know what would happen if he set off a big bang. He sat down, calculated it all out in the language of the gods (the language of perfection; maths) and realised that due to uncertainty, the only way to know exactly what would happen was for it to actually happen. (Douglas Adams?)

In general, I think the 'type of person' that would try to create law to use the police to silence people they disagree with, are the fundamental problem. Whether it's right wing churchies, or left wing SJWs, they share the same character flaw that is the root cause of suffering for much of the world. The only good thing about them is that they often manage to cancel each other out.

Re. atheism in public, crap I care about would be things like: marriage tax benefits, or marriage co-100%-ownership benefits. Because marriage (a historically religious arrangement - and before that an arrangement of human chattel) has no business being in the government sphere, and no business having tangible effects on people's economic and legal lives.

Yeah, I don't buy it. Most nearly everyone, especially in urban areas and even more especially so around ATM machines have massive danger zones/spheres. That guy would have felt/heard that guy's presence when he was walking up. And who reads shit on the ATM that isn't on the screen, anyway? No one.

Fry is almost certainly correct that modern ideas of the middle ages are overstating things. Certainly scholars of the time had sources available describing the earth as a sphere.

I was told the confusion stemmed from Isidore of Seville who wrote a book called the Etymologies, in Latin, to summarise the Greek books from classical antiquity. This was becoming important at a time when Greek was studied much less, and the originals were therefore inaccessible to most scholars. Anyway, in one passage of his Etymologies he described the shape of the earth as being round, like a wheel.

This probably didn't cause nearly as much confusion as people think.
