“Musick has Charms to soothe the savage Breast/to soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak,” -William Congreve (1670-1629)

-Musick

VERB TRANSITIVE
to compose music for (a poem, libretto, etc.)

-Breast

VERB
face and move forward against or through (something).

no wonder why crt, statures, masks, vaccines, seeing dead people at the polls - can trip y'all out. it's like being on acid and your choice of media is playing w/ya'...

There Is No Art In This White House

By Elayne Griffin Baker

There’s no literature or poetry in the White House. No music. No Kennedy Center award celebrations. There are no pets in this White House. No loyal man’s best friend. No Socks the family cat. No kids’ science fairs. No times when this president takes off his blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on his white shirt-khaki pants uniform and hides from Americans to play golf. There are no images of the first family enjoying themselves together in a moment of relaxation. No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.

I was thinking the other day of the summer when George H couldn’t catch a fish and all the grandkids made signs and counted the fish-less days. And somehow, even if you didn’t even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun. Where did that country go? Where did all of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go?

We used to be a country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity. We used to have a president that calmed and soothed the nation instead dividing it. And a First Lady that planted a garden instead of ripping one out. We are rudderless and joyless. We have lost the cultural aspects of society that make America great. We have lost our mojo, our fun, our happiness. The cheering on of others. Gone. The shared experiences of humanity that makes it all worth it. Gone. The challenges AND the triumphs that we shared and celebrated. The unique can-do spirit Americans have always been known for. Gone. We have lost so much in so short a time.

Vote Democratic all the way down the ballot on November 3rd.

Hypocrisy, Thy Name Is Republican

luxintenebris jokingly says...

the grand old party is as good as their word.

why should we worry? deny the president was guilty and removing him, only strengthen america's chances against a killer virus...right? pence would have been worse on the covid response...right? like pontius pilate the call was in their hands.

these are the same folks that say corporations are people, we can wait on infrastructure, healthcare and education necessities, they can channel the forefathers, and the almighty put their presidential candidates on the ballot.

as the god chosen they've divine this is the time to start another holy war. during a time when...
- a virus cold war is going on. rubes with attitudes spitting lines about constitutionality and freedom (spitting being the keyword). then accusations that the spit-upon are politizing the disease
- blm movements meeting up w/the far-right press and punks
- half the country is on fire and the other under water
- homelessness, evictions, unemployment, and the real possibility of a bone-crushing depression settling in longer than covid itself...

...and now the might right wants to add to the fire. like they are running a gender identification party.

any wonder my moscow mitch had a 13% approval rating? if the republicans hate their representatives, what chance does anything else have?

sure. justice cruz will be a salve to soothe the burn. like ethanol in hell.

When I die, I expect I'm going back to where I was before I was born....nowhere.

Obviously this "evidence" is not undeniable...I, and hundreds of millions....actually many billions deny it.

Religopolitical propaganda has no bearing on real life unless you make it. Christian scripture is political, compiled and edited by men with an agenda to make people more easily controlled. That is simply an undeniable historical fact.

You do realize that there are other "undeniable" scriptures from other religions that contradict your chosen dogma, right? You deny all of them, I just deny one more than you do.

I must be really special, because God has made no such thing evident, in fact he gave me the ability to reason which makes evident the fallacy of supernatural entities and powers and makes any creator totally unnecessary, superfluous, and infinitely unlikely.

It's reason that lets me see what "God" is....a tool for civil control and a soothing but baseless answer to the questions of the unknown.

I've told you many times, God is free to reveal himself at any time. He has not done so in any way shape or form, but his fans have offered mountains of proclaimed evidence that was all self referencing circular logic, stone age tribal nonsense, and fantasy fables, and nothing more. If he exists, it's his will to have me not believe. Plain and simple.
My heart is as opened to Jesus as anyone else....but he has to show up and work his way inside. So far he's a total no show, and I'm not holding a table reserved for anybody and pretending they're present. Mot has made more of a substantial showing than Yahweh...should I be serving him?

Romans 10:9-10

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved

When you do that, believing that Jesus died for your sins, God will save you and make you a new person. You're good if you don't care where you are going after you die, if you leave it as you believe up to chance. Yet the evidence that God exists is undeniable, and the coming of His Son Jesus Christ was predicted by prophecies going back thousands of years. So you're not really leaving it up to chance because the scripture tells you that you have no excuse for ignorance.

Romans 1:18-20

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse

You would say, I am sure, that you haven't seen any evidence for God but the scripture says you have and you have suppressed the truth about it. I believe scripture and in our conversations I am sorry to say you are always poisoning the well of reasoned debate with mockery and ridicule. What is behind that is a heavy bias and angst which keeps you from seeing who God is. Being obstinate against the truth of Gods word is foolish. Why not give God the benefit of the doubt and at least ask Him to show you if what I have been telling you all of these years is true?

In this "political environment", when everything is "political", it's really soothing to hear someone talk about something they knows a great deal about and, almost more importantly, admit when they don't know something that we wouldn't expect them to know.

Jesus, when's the last time I heard a politician say, "I don't know" rather than "I don't recall"?

Would You Ride This?

shagen454 says...

It looks fun to me. Seriously, there are only two rides I have ever been on that I never went to go on again. The Twilight Zone ride, where it goes dark and you drop like 12 stories straight down or something like that. I screamed like a girl. 2: DMT breakthrough, a ride so far outside of this Universe that I screamed for my life louder and longer than I would like to admit, lol. After that, jumping out of a spacecraft back to Earth would be like floating in some soothing, calm Caribbean waters.

1 Scientifically Proven Thing Actually Makes People Happier

Shayde says...

I have an hour long commute by car to get to work, and again to get back home. But I chose the commute to, as said in the video, own my own home and be able to get a bigger home than I would have had I bought closer to work.

Here's why I don't consider it stressful...

I work 12 hours four days a week, so that's one less day I need to commute. I also have the luxury of being able to work from home two of those days.

On the days I do have to go in, half of the drive is back country roads which I often get to myself. I find a nice country road quite soothing to drive on. And the half of the commute spent on city motorways I reduced the stress on by upgrading to a car that does a lot of the driving for me. I set the top speed I want to go and the car takes care of the accelerating and braking and keeping in the lanes.

I load up the car stereo with audio books and have a nice relaxing drive to and from the office. Now the most stressful part of the journey is having to get up at 5am. Which really does suck.

Woman Refuses to Leave Uber Car

newtboy says...

Yes, but that service was over. She was continuing to sit in his car, but was not going to pay more money for his time she was using. Even if he wasn't at her destination, once he said 'get out', it's over, she's trespassing, service or no. She has every right to complain, but not to remain.

Really? Someone needs mind control to get you irate? I guess we aren't being serious anymore.

If a customer is rude and abusing the service, and refuses a calm request to leave, things are going to escalate. She should be glad they didn't escalate physically, because while that would certainly be wrong of him, it would not be totally unexpected. Her demeanor was designed to provoke....I know it well, it was my mother's MO in any argument. Get you flustered, then poke you in a calm, soothing voice.

I agree, in a perfect world, people never piss other people off to that extent where they completely lose their shit like he did. This is FAR from a perfect world, and some people see it as their reason for existence, and a form of entertainment, to drive people over the edge. Others do it, then turn on their camera to film the results and claim they're the victim. I think that's more than likely the case here.

I've also dealt with people acting worse than he was (we have no idea how bad she was before she started filming his reaction and she started being oddly calm) and not lost it....and I've dealt with people acting as aggravatingly as possible, but calmly, and completely blown a fuse, like when my neighbor calmly climbed over my fence and cut my trees down.

Yes, calling the cops is the right idea, but not necessarily useful. In many places, they would never respond to that call and would tell him so....then what?

I would bet $5 that the video starting 5 minutes earlier WOULD excuse his behavior. I might lose that bet, but it only makes sense to me. He wouldn't be an Uber driver long if he acted that way normally....and he's probably not one now.

As for her "making him irate" what, does she have some sort of mind control powers?

The guy's a fucking asshole. He's not giving her a lift in his private property, he's working and she's a customer. I don't give a fuck how rude or condescending she is, you don't act like that towards a customer.

Fuck, you don't act like towards another human being unless they are threatening you or seriously ruining your life in some way.

I've dealt with people way worse than that and never lost my shit like he did.

He had the right idea straight away, which was to call the cops. Screaming like a demented moron helps no-one.

All that said, the customer does seem like an entitled arsehole. She was at the hospital, all she had to do was find out where the emergency room was and walk there.

Still doesn't excuse his behaviour.

Bernie Sanders Explains His Reluctance To Endorse Hillary

bareboards2 says...

I so admire Mr Sanders.

That might be shaken after the Dem Convention, if he doesn't strongly endorse Clinton.

Because it isn't just politics at this point -- it is a two way horse race with passions running high.

I have to self-soothe by endlessly repeating -- it is a loooong time until November. It is a very looooooog time until November. There is enough time for Sanders to do what he says at the very beginning of this interview -- EVERYTHING HE CAN TO DEFEAT TRUMP.

When one box just isn't enough
