Making Fun Of People Who Make Mountain Bike Videos

Why Trust Is Worth It - zefrank

ChaosEngine says...

There are varying levels of trust. I trust the drivers around me to not do anything too stupid. I trust that the money I earn will buy me food and clothing (and beer!).

More importantly, I trust the people I go snowboarding with that they'll dig me out of an avalanche, and the people I train with in Aikido that they can receive a technique safely and the senseis who demonstrate a technique on me that they won't do any permanent damage.

Most importantly, I trust my wife.... with everything.

Controlling Avalanche Risk with 50 lb bombs

Awsome how you can see it slabing and then cracking when the charge goes off.

I would highly recommend doing an avalanche safety course if you're in any way serious about skiing or snowboarding. In addition to the obvious benefits of helping keep yourself alive, you learn heaps about the snow pack. It's really good fun.

GoPro Pimping: Where's the camera?

Regarding the helmet/death statistics.. I'd be interested to see what percentage of deaths are from people wearing helmets.

It doesn't matter if 70% of people are wearing helmets if the 30% who aren't are the ones doing potentially fatal activities. A family who ski/ride once a year and wear helmets on green runs are probably not going to die, but that 14 year old who's going for it in the half-pipe every chance s/he gets is at a higher risk.

I snowboard pretty regularly myself and these days I tend to stick with back/side country. I've pretty much always worn a helmet, but I used to see a lot of young guys in the park hitting decent sized jumps/rails without one.

Snow Ski + Jet Pack = Awesome

People are awesome 2013 ( new version )

Does anyone here know anything about wing suits?

I'm curious as to how difficult it is. I mean, it looks absolutely awesome, and I'm sure there's a lot of technical knowledge about wind flow, etc involved, but most of the wing suit videos I've seen don't actually look that difficult. Certainly not compared to some of the bike drops, ski/snowboard jumps and so on.

Am I completely wrong and ignorant on this?
It's very often the case that something that looks easy is actually really really hard to do, and it's just a case of a very skilled person making it look easy.

And again, taking nothing away from wingsuiters.... I think it's amazing and I'd love to try it one day.

16-year-old skateboarder lands a 1080 at X Games

ChaosEngine says...

1080s? We've been doing that on snowboards for years now!

Nah, just kidding... that's some epically *skillful skating right there.

Mad props to the kid.

(That is how one uses that expression, right? I'm old and Irish, so I don't get to say shit like that much)

This such a beautifully executed fail

Using a T-bar with a snowboard can be hard the first time because your natural instinct is to sit on it, which is wrong. Correct: stand perpendicular to the direction you're going, with the foot that's in the snowboard up the hill. Put the bar in your crotch, put your back foot on the board and wait for the T-bar to yank you up the hill by your inner thigh.
