Battery Powered Track All Terrain Vehicle

bremnet says...

Sure. There are some in here:
http://www.unusuallocomotion.com/pages/more-documentation/20-one-2-or-3-tracked-rigid-vehicles-light.html

... and about 7/8's of the way down this page:
http://snegohod-tuning.ru/istoriya-snegoxoda.html

We had similar units in Canada in the 60's (with , not quite as speedy as the electric jobby shown here) with I believe (not 100%) some of the early Kohler or perhaps OMC single cylinder gas engines. One could stand on a small foot board that was skidded along behind, steering with two large handles (like a roto tiller), and then behind that there was a sled with high enough walls that you could haul firewood, straw bales, sacks of whatever without them spilling out. They were geared rather high, so not a lot of speed but that's what was required to keep the torque up on these 2 strokes.

Hope this helps a bit.

Can you provide some URLs?
(Google is not great at looking for old stuff)

I always like seeing pics & diagrams of old-but-innovative tech.

Snowmobile Drag Racing in the Dirt

oritteropo says...

In the LiveLeak comments for this, autowolf says:

sleds tend to have lower top speed numbers compared to say sports bikes etc because spinning that track requires an incredible amount of effort. That snowmobile might be making 300 or so hp but its top speed probably wont be much over 130. The thing is it will get to 120 in about five seconds. A really built out race sled will have a power to weight ratio similar to a formula 1 car. most stock snowmobiles will have one equal to about half that of a formula one car. an average weight sled with a 150 or so hp engine will be sitting at around 500 HP per ton

I liked this vid, would've posted it myself if @oohlalasassoon hadn't (strikes vid off to-post list)

Inside the World's Most Dangerous Amusement Park

Esoog says...

Chattanooga is listed on that page as previously having an Alpine Slide. We went up there twice at night after they closed when I was in high school. They always left the shed with the sleds unlocked. We lost most of the skin on our shoulders and elbows after a couple runs. It was a blast to do during the day...it was terrifying at night without lights.

Mt. Hood in Oregon has the Alpine Slide. Been going for 20 years. Upon further investigation, there are a LOT of these.

Next we just need a coffee cup with the same design.

I'm as plugged in as the next person, but we need to learn some cell phone etiquette and safety.

You don't need to be on your cell when I'm talking with you. Nor while you are walking, driving, cycling, running, skipping, swimming, jumping, sledding, scooting, or sexing.

Mieders Alpine Coaster - Frustrated Guy Crashes

newtboy says...

The crash looked like the best part to me. I just found myself wanting him to stop for one minute, let go of the brake, and just go full bore to the bottom yelling "NO BRAKES", ramming and then pushing them at full speed. This is a roller coaster, not a sight seeing slide. You are not supposed to stop to look at scenery repeatedly. It completely ruins the ride for those wanting to ride instead of inch down the hill, and it is dangerous for both parties. I would have demanded another free ride or my money back. (then again, I likely would have been thrown out for mangling the sleds and injuring the other rider).

This almost seems like genetic proof which would support the theory that some people are born jerks and cannot help themselves but to act in such a manner.
