Romney bragging about Bain Capital days and factory in China

swedishfriend says...

That and fairness is why I wrote what I wrote. I agree that his lowness as a person and his hypocrisy should be the focus which is why I tried to steer people away from ignorant douchiness. There is real meat in the video and I was trying to remove some of the gristle from the conversation so to speak.
>> ^volumptuous:

The point of the video isn't the plight of Chinese factory workers. The point is that a person who is running for POTUS has an ugly and detailed history of closing down factories in the USA, forcing tens of thousands of Americans into unemployment, buying slave-labor factories in China and shipping all of the work over there.
That is the exact opposite to his claim of "knowing how to create jobs, my friends."
>> ^swedishfriend:
They start working and then demand compensation. Seems like a reasonable strategy if you and your family are starving. I guess you don't realize just how poor people are in China. I don't think things should be this bad in the factories but it is still an improvement over their regular lives which should tell you something about how terrible the wealthy government in China treats its poor.

Undocumented Workers Pay $11.2Bn in Taxes -- Just Sayin'

GenjiKilpatrick says...

@bobknight33

No red herrings please.

Illegal immigrants pay taxes. They would pay more if they weren't threatened and demonized. They would pay even MORE if legislation like the DREAM act were passed.

The work that unauthorized immigrants do is slave labor. Unemployed Americans simply refuse to accept that level intense work for the comparatively low wage. (Young Turks did a report on that as well. Plus I would know, since all the onion farmers in south georgia were affected by these new "Arizona style" immigration laws)

Just admit, you've come across new information that requires you (and the rest of America) to rethink your opinion of migrant workers and their families.

And i'll be honest, if i was sat right here smoking a joint made from a plant i'd grown in my back garden, i'd say; who the hell am i hurting?

THE ECONOMY! You could be in prison manufacturing some shit while giving the prison company double the income, once for being in prison(the state gets billed) and second for working for some other company(which gets billed for your work).
It's a win-win situation for the private prison. And in no way akin to slave-labor, no no no no!

edit: desarcasmified... yes, that's a word now.

Cell phones are immoral, from the slave labor mining of precious metals to the sweat shop assembly, to the toxic waste shipped back to china.
Your sentiments are cliche and your herd mentality a detriment to the global herd.

Cell phones are not immoral. Slave labor mining, sweat shop assembly and toxic waste pollution are definitely immoral, but don't confuse the ends with the means. Our desire for cell phones may not justify the immoral actions used to produce them, but that doesn't mean the cell phones themselves or our desire to use them, is wrong.

As for the poem, technology is amoral. It is a tool, which can be used to enslave or enhance your life. Would he have said the same thing about the printing press?

I have acquired knowledge, discovered art and laughed at the world (and yes those things have equal value) on this site alone, and that means the internet makes my life better. I have had visceral, collaborative, experiences in online games I could never have in real life (at least, until the zombie apocalypse hits).

But it's a part of my life, not the whole. Guitar hero doesn't compare to actually playing guitar. SSX has none of "oh crap, I've overcooked this and now I'm really gonna hurt" adrenaline rush of actually snowboarding. As much as I love taking down a room of thugs in Arkham Aslyum, it's a pale shadow of the intricacy of martial arts.

So yeah, take what you want from the web, but go have a beer with some friends every now and then

Bill Gates: Raise taxes on the rich. That's just justice.

longde says...

Gates always struck me as the more ruthless businessman, but not a genuine asshole.

MS exists in China, and has popular products here, but obviously has had to adopt a widely different approach to piracy than Apple. While they're not so open, MS is not so restrictive either.

Also, their products don't tend to bring out the worst in people(check out the photos): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/13/iphone-4s-beijing-apple-store_n_1203661.html>> ^NetRunner:

Two things I never would've imagined 15 years ago:

  1. Bill Gates retires and becomes a widely philanthropic figure helping the needy, leaving behind an open, responsive Microsoft.
  2. Steve Jobs dies relatively young, leaving behind an Apple that has become a monopolistic juggernaut fueled by a Faustian fusion of genuine innovation and Chinese slave labor.

I honestly thought that was going to be the other way around.

This is just a trick by our government to enact legislation that will lower the standard of living for alien species that might be coming to our planet soon.

What you don't understand is that these aliens are in fact collective entities classified in human terms as corporations. We must destroy these aliens because they will move in, crowd us out of our own cities and then rule us from afar, turning us into mindless consumers that produce nothing but slave labor.

Vertical Landing. Do you get this? VERTICAL JET LANDING

GeeSussFreeK says...

No one is saying it is money well spent, except you. But that doesn't mean you can't marvel at what it is. Pyramids are a terrible example of slave labor, but they are still impressive. Governments are good at spending money, every once in awhile, the product of their spending is very impressive...even if ill conceived.

Defending a $320 billion jet program by highlighting its efficiency?>> ^GeeSussFreeK:
>> ^robbersdog49:
I'm not seeing anything impressive about this. The jet engine has been around for a long time, and the Harrier was doing this forty years ago. The only difference is the electronics controlling it, and you can see that in action in a £200 model helicopter I can control with my phone.
The only reaction this video got from me was a 'why has it taken them so long to do this and why do people think it's impressive?'

You could make the same comparison in computers, or cars. This isn't a revolution in planes, but an evolution. And is still thrilling to people who love this type of thing. Why would you see an action movie, seen one seen'em all? Then answer is you like seeing them. @Jinx summed it up quite well, it has a huge power plant enabling supersonic flight and maintain a VERY highly stable hover state without using as much fuel. Even with that huge power plant and strange mechanical and aerodynamic arrangements to accommodate vertical abilities, manages to be "stelthy".
The beauty of some things is the combination of abilities that are normally thought to be mutually exclusive. It would be the same as a truck coming out that can carry 2 tons and still get better gas millage than a Prius, very worthy to note. If NASA came out with a new shuttle that was highly refined and enabled 4 times as much payload into space, would you knock it because "shuttles are 30 years old"?

Perry For President

Boise_Lib says...

I was just about to post this. Here's the description from the Wonkette story:

"Rick Perry Will Freak The Crap Out of You With Zombie Movie Campaign Ad"

Here is the new trailer for the nightmare horror film about Rick Perry becoming President! It is difficult to tell what is happening, because there are no shots in this trailer longer than .024 seconds and there is A LOT OF NOISE (seriously, turn down the volume if you are watching at work), but the takeaway plot synopsis we have gleaned has Perry removing the last few shards of humanity from America’s depressed masses with the sharp edge of his boot heel only to replace them with zombie droids he shouts at while they anxiously carve chalk drawings of American flags into sidewalks between bouts of disease and slave labor, without complaining.

Idaho Prison Fight on Camera Prompts FBI Scrutiny

cito says...

I worked as a prison guard for about 6 months and don't let anyone fool you.

once you enter prison you are no longer part of the judicial system

prison guards and correctional officers are not cops, are not parts of the judicial system at all they are all private corporations.

The prison I worked at was in southern Georgia, and here's a little known secret for most. Big corporations like the Pepsico, Coke, Proctor & Gamble and many others own prisons. The one I worked with a subsidiary of Pepsico paid my check.

The reason they get into prisons is it's "insurance" and "free money" The government gives money for each inmate for care and housing/health. The more you can crowd into your prison the more money the government will pay.

So big corporations who primarily do other things, will also own prisons around the country as insurance cause it's guaranteed money, so during economic recessions and when your sales are down you know you are guaranteed xxx amount of money due to the prison income. Now add onto that fact making prisoners work for you making products like license plates for the states and other such products you get even more income from states by using your slave labor force for them.

There is an old documentary on the prison system and who really runs it, in the documentary corporations from Microsoft and Apple to Proctor & Gamble all had stake in private prisons around the country. It's free tax free money.

I know for fact that part of the documentary was true as my check was from pepsico for working for a prison. That was until I finished college and moved to Orlando to work for an ISP.

Estranged Wife cuts off hubby's penis & garbage disposes it

MarineGunrock says...

@hpqp - life for her is about 40 years. Murder sentences are too short, I'll definitely agree to that. Hand, foot? All the same as a dick. Maybe worse. I really have no problem with the death penalty for people who purposefully murder someone. You have no use left on out planet. Either that or slave labor.
