Top 10 Movie Sex Positions

rottenseed says...

It's pretty easy to get me to laugh...slapstick, sarcasm, dry British humor, somebody in family diagnosed with cancer, child getting hit by truck—the list goes on. But somehow, this managed to run for almost 2 and a half minutes without inducing so much as a chuckle.

Cat Not Very Good at Jumping

EDD says...

I upvoted immediately upon first viewing like the sucker for slapstick hilarity that I am, but when I showed it to my Mrs., she immediately spotted there was something seriously wrong with the cat's balance. Look (and listen) closely: the cat's collar is definitely much too heavy - his head is what's dragging the kitty WAAAY down barely halfway into the jump; additionally, the sound which the collar-ball makes hitting the ground at 0:04 is unmistakably that of metal or similarly dense material.

I sure hope the kitty walked away unscathed and I do have to admit that this looks quite hilarious upon superficial inspection, but the fact remains that it's actually a case of violence towards a (super-awfully *Cute) animal.

The Coolest Math Teacher

Good stuff. I once saw a play by Station House Opera called "Roadmetal, Sweetbread" which had two live actors interacting with projected doubles of theirs, with a lot of quite elaborate choreography and slapstick. It was quite disconcerting how soon you forgot which actions were done by a live actor and which by the projected one.

Top 10 dumbest Indiana Jones moments

RedSky says...

Only thing I really agree with is the tank going over the cliff. It was sloppy of them to have framed it so you can see what's happening and then basically backtrack from that. The rest he's being picky, Indiana Jones was never meant to be realistic or plausible and a little bit of slapstick doesn't hurt an action comedy, the movies weren't exactly ever known for their highbrow humour.

Oh and yeah 7 was awesome.

Even though it doesn't mean anything. I kind of like voting for my own videos for some reason. I wouldn't be opposed to the change though.

I agree with your other points too. People wouldn't probably try too hard for those few extra clicks. That's as far as I'd want to go though. I would always like the ability to sift through another user's PQ. Maybe we could just hide the submitter's name until the video is off of the unsifted page, THEN it appears in their PQ.

In reply to this comment by Kreegath:
It doesn't have to be that way, though.

Just removing the name of the submitter on the "unsifted" tag should be enough to do away with most of the buddy-voting going on, as I'm fairly certain people won't go through the trouble of looking up their buddies profile every time they log onto Videosift. It doesn't have to be impossible to figure out who posted what video though, as people on the net are generally too lazy to ever go through with any kind of work they don't absolutely have to. Clicking around two-three pages extra would, I'm sure we both could probably agree on, fall under the "won't bother" category.
But even if we'd want it taken to the extreme, then it wouldn't be hard to hide the "unsifted videos" and/or PQ links on ones personal page to everyone but the user. I just feel like there are better things to focus on than just arbitrarily raise the vote limit, and as such file off the fringe stuff in favour of the bland mainstream, like cat fart videos and slapstick. Hope you find this reasoning decent enough and not off-putting, as it's formed with the best of intentions. Oh, and also; Kronos' idea of removing the self-vote is something I found to be a great suggestion. What did you think of it?

In reply to this comment by Ryjkyj:
I was completely for this idea when I first saw it but I just realized that it would require getting rid of personal queues. Doh!

In reply to this comment by Kreegath:
Or we could hide the submitter's name until the video has been sifted, since I'm betting there's alot of buddy-voting going on. If that's indeed the case, then it'd be much more of detriment to the quality control idea.

Bill Maher - Tender Moment

Britan has its fair share of shit,

I think Britain has been on the forefront of alot of comedic innovation due to English peoples cynical attitude and because of English language and the fact we raped and pillaged so manny cultures over the years , because of that will will have stolen alot of comidy to end up with something more diverse than other cultures.

Im sure Usa has had manny comedic innovators just maby not to the same exstent as english due to the age of the country and its atitudes.

USa has Innovated in other subject areas for more praliphicly than UK though.

In the end what you find funny is subjective and will depend on what you have grown up on and with , but also if you wer to ask what is more sophisticated slapstick or the office/Monty python? people would probably go with the latter , not that sophistication is the be all and end all , i would argue that at least sophisticated things take longer for sum one to get board with them.

He's crass and, obviously, an attention whore.
But everyone has to kiss his ass, I guess.
Smooch the heinie.

Who else got away with that shit?
Mel Brooks? Woody Allen? Jerry Lewis?
Not even. Not one of them used people as props.

but isn't that the point and what makes the character so funny? i totally agree that everything about him is completely outrageous and distasteful - thats why we like him! personally i love his slapstick humour the most (e.g. the naked fight in borat) i think he is a talented physical actor and often demonstrates a keen awareness of his body, gesuture and space.

Excellent point about the Sarlacc Pit digesting you for 7000 years. Though, even that logic seems weird unless biologically its digestive tract could secrete a preservative to keep your organic flesh and sinew from rotting during that period.

Some of the subtle cosmetic enhancements didn't bother me nearly as much as some of the crappy slapstick he threw in there, especially during the fly through of Mos Eisley and you see some Laurel and Hardy type antics between two robots (couldn't find the clip on YouTube).

Are we nerds?

In reply to this comment by JiggaJonson:
Indeed I have been waiting for the originals in HD for a while. Updates to the originals are teh suck. Being a computer nerd, it's easy for me to spot CGI in film and the original star wars movies (updated) were well done for their time, but they still are lackluster and make me feel like im watching a cartoon.

My worst culprit? The Sarlacc pit: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/36/BaradaandSarlaac.jpg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEZhOAV746w (end of this clip)

It's supposed to digest you over a period of 7,000 years, so it was a hole in the ground with a low metabolism, makes sense. The image and video above make it seem like the plant from Little Shop of Horrors (only the LSOH plant seemed real in comparison).

I wish he'd release the original trilogy without all the special edition enhancements in HD and be done with it.

Tales of Monkey Island -- NEW Monkey Island game!

dannym3141 says...

They REALLY missed the boat on the graphical style didn't they? The essence just isn't there. The cartoony style's just missing for me when you compare it to the later MI's. Guybrush's voice isn't the same (which could be forgiven, but it all alienates me), the slapstick moments lack something, the jokes aren't funny, a lot of the scenes look really empty..

I sound like a fanboy, but i'd hate them to ruin MI I hope it's traditional monkey island goodness because i miss games like that.
