A Noble Spirit Embiggens The Smallest Man (The Simpsons)

Good luck, that's a patented Skinner family recipe not available to the public.

You can have a peek at the localized aurora in the kitchen, though.

Appearing legitimate but actually being spurious : These citations are indeed cromulent

Excuse me while I look up some recipes for steamed hams.

Negative Badges (Controversy Talk Post)

Society is interesting enough to poke your head into every once in a while - just to see whats "new" - but boy is it depressing to partake in for long.

I'd like to think this human experiment won't go (completely) to shit in my lifetime, but if this thread/site is a microcosm of what it is and whats to come as of 2010...then jeez...think we'll make it?

When will we learn that we've already learned this lesson before?

California lawmakers introduce soda tax bill

rottenseed says...

>> ^rabidness:
I would vote in support of this, just as I would for taxes(which we have) on other unhealthy vices like gambling, alcohol and tobacco. The government is an extension of society and through this apparatus, society can help protect citizens from its ills. Childhood obesity is a serious problem for our country and soda is a main cause of this. What this type of tax is designed to do is make people think about regulating their intake of this type of product, while revenues of the tax are put into public-health media and projects.
Of course it erodes on the individual's freedom... so I feel ethically tarnished by supporting such an action that victimizes my liberty, however I am a citizen in a community and I feel the need to protect the wellbeing of myself AS WELL AS the others in my community.

This is plain and simple. The government wants money so they tax things and sometimes they disguise the taxation as something for our benefit. Did raising the taxes on alcohol and tobacco ever stop me? Nope. It just made me pay more. I don't drink soda all that often either so it's easy for me to say "who cares?" but this really is about the government getting it's dick-skinners in where it doesn't need to be. Some of us are fat...that's the way it is and that's the way it's gonna be.

You know what. Unless you are a climatologist, you should not be discussing climate issues. The earth's climate is one delicate and complex system, and if one must go through 4 years of schooling in order to grasp these intricacies then, unless you've put yourself through such rigorous training, you don't get a say. Even if you are a scientist studying this, there are different ideas being held right now based on data, meaning to the scientific community, the jury may not still be out, but the sentence has yet to be read.

I'm not trying to direct this at anybody specifically, so I apologize if you think I am. But as a whole, there's too many unqualified people with their dick-skinners in this global warming pie.

Let me be the first to say, I have only very cursory knowledge about our role in climate change and what affects climate change. Chances are, you don't know much more than me.

I'm sure there is somebody here that can break it down for us though (source qualifications please).
