True Grit - 2nd Trailer

Ryjkyj says...

^Thank you TRB.^ That movie was absolutely beautiful, visually and otherwise. Full of fantastic acting, pacing, and genuine suspense. I love that people can't seem to tolerate the ending and think that it ruins the movie as a whole. And then blame it on the Coen's writing. I found it troubling but what grade were we all in when the teacher covered the idea that some stories don't have a typical ending? 2nd? 3rd?

Thanks though Deano for at least giving credit to Raising Arizona, one of Nick Cage's finest performances. But it sounds to me like you're just jumping on the, "It's cool to dislike this because so many people do like it" bandwagon. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though. I'm not trying to be a dick.

Couldn't agree more about "The Hudsucker Proxy" DFT. That movie is one of the greatest examples of comedic timing ever. I find when I show it to people, especially actors, that their biggest problem with the whole movie is that their modern, sitcom inundated minds can't pay attention to any sentence longer than ten words and they just zone out. It's really unfortunate. There are so many great performances there.

EDIT: Wow, for once a youtube comment intelligently sums it up:

"But the Coens aren't remaking this film. They're adapting the book. I think there's room for different film versions of books. If there wasn't, we would've never had Peter Jackson's version of the Lord of the Rings as we've be left with Ralph Bakshi's version."

Do you need any more reasons to watch Community?

I've never regretted not relying on network television sitcoms for my comedic needs. Books and movies do the job well. For one thing, network sitcoms all tend to be jealously formulaic. Individual episodes also tend to be silo'd to prevent any sort of character-arc from developing because, well, we can't have that in a comedy, can we? The last good network sitcom I've ever seen was Arrested Development, which at least made an earnest attempt to buck these boring conventions. And look at the show now...oh wait, it was cancelled.

However, in the years spent here, I've learned that Sarzy and I have very comparable tastes in movies, which counts for quite a lot, so his endorsement has prompted me to check this show out.

Cheers!

(Not Cheers the TV show, I meant Cheers in the goodbye/thanks/good job combo.)

Based on the definition in the channel page
A SiftHome for fans of Our Favourite Family (the Simpsons), Futurama, and allied 'adult cartoon' shows (Adult Swim, Bromwell High...) as well as crazy foreign stuff like Rabbits in Prison and anything else that we find suitable in the Groeningian sense. Homeric references, for example, are lauded with inclusion to this channel. All Homeric or Groeningian references are to be explained if not obvious.
I don't think this fits the bill. It's up to the channel owner to decide.

hahahah, oh lol. Fucking malaysians and their most overbearing dramatization of anything. Their sitcoms are literally 30minutes of crying.

And the Filipino sitcoms...yeeeesh.

Buuut to be fair. The ad should completely pwn in malaysia. Upvote.

I suspect you guys are assuming we know the context.
A guy dabbed his pizza to get rid of excess fat and got teased is all I really took away from this.
Also, thats some shit editing.

It's all happening in the background baby

Damn, looks like I'm too unobservant for this show.
I noticed the youtube title, and even the pregnant woman in the first scene, but missed everything in all the other ones.
Was very confused until I saw your comment and re-watched.

I've tried sifting a number of Community clips on this damned site. For reasons unknown to me (everybody else has bad taste and is incurably stupid), people just don't vote for them.

Are you serious? I would have voted, but this is the first Community clip I've seen on the site.

Louis CK - Airport Security

Mekanikal says...

I'm glad he's writing new material. I have both Chewed Up and Shameless and love them to death, but his TV series just seems to be regurgitating his stand up into a sitcom format. I know the jokes and now I get to see them acted out.

Joe Rogan's "You're a Fucking Human Being"

joe rogan is watched by over a billion people every ufc event (yes over a billion people watch each UFC event). He still does stand up and he is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, had a great part on one of the best sitcoms of all time, News Radio. He is an open cannabis user (brave for media personality). He is teh roxxors.

He's also a moon hoaxer, i.e. he thinks the Moon landings were faked. Unless he's retracted those statements and admitted he was very wrong(some time later) after being completely dismantled and destroyed by Phil Plait, of Bad Astronomy fame, on I think it was Penn & Teller's radio show. He made a huge fool of himself; I can only hope he's learned something from that experience.

I enjoy both the lazy comedies and the stuff that tries harder, is that bad in your opinion?

Also, do you watch Louie? Mr. C.K.'s new show is recommended (as well as the Arrested Development suggestion above).

What I meant by my statement was that Roger Ebert was especially harsh when critiquing dumb comedies, such as this film. I've read many of your statements about comedy sifts, and you rarely find anything funny. It's not a condemnation; merely an opinion.>> ^dannym3141:
If we're not allowed to review things unless we're professional reviewers, you better say the same to the other people who commented before me.

That's perfectly fair enough, i take it back.
You're right, i don't find many sifts funny. I'm not into boil-in-the-bag humour.. you know, x is a family man but he's got daughter y who's unruly, daughter x who's rock n roll, etc. etc. comedy ensues.
I like comedy that tries harder, where i can't predict every single damned punchline. Stuff like the office, extras. The big lebowski. mitchell and webb and peep show. Curb your enthusiasm. That kinda stuff.
I think the people who make sitcoms like friends, big bang theory are guilty of lazyness. They don't try hard enough for me and i can second guess them.
