Just One Of Those Days

Buster Keaton - The Art of the Gag

Instant Karma

newtboy says...

Really?!? To you and @Magicpants...exactly what should they have done that they did not to de-escalate the situation. Turn off all cameras because baby asshole doesn't want to be filmed? You do know that 1)there was more than one person filming him and 2)there are also security cameras everywhere, so he's on camera anyway.
Numerous people tried talking him down, with no luck. When someone is going nuts and threatening you, recording them IS the right thing to do...always. If they're the kind of infant bully that goes ballistic because their inappropriate behavior is caught on tape, that's 100% on the infant, not the people calmly and silently filming his outbursts, not on the people that try to stop him from beating up an elderly man. Just WOW!
It's simple to tell who started it, it's the one who's going insane about being filmed, and he's being filmed because he's already been going insane. He would NOT have been being filmed by numerous random strangers if he wasn't already causing a drunken scene.
Dude's an asshole, a baby, a homophobe, racist, batterer, and an idiot...yet some here seem to be on his side. Hmmmmm. Let's think about that one.

Oh yes, I fully agree with you there, no need to escalate the situation as far as they let it go, and indeed impossible to tell what started the whole debacle in the first place.

My guess is bit of unjustified holier than thou attitude, which seems to be the curse of the current day and age, from the unimpaired audience. There's no justification for belligerent drunken behaviour, but neither is there for not doing anything about it until it is too late when there seems to be time and chance to de-escalate the situation by more peaceful means.

But, alas, it's all just guesses with the information available.

Was it your intention to invoke this video as a dupe?

Your second referenced video, which you were unable to view, was indeed the original to which the two you referenced making the current a dupe. You may safely and rightly second it so.

However, the semidupage was at best semi and not a true dupe. The silent film hommage video was significantly different from the original to stand alone.

In any case, excellent work.

Portsmouth Police exempt from the law

GeeSussFreeK says...

Another video lacking prior context. If he had just pulled someone over and was forced to park there, that is one thing, but I see cops park in non-parking spots all the time for no apparent reason. Like NR was saying, we can make exceptions to parking laws for both cops and ourselves in case of an emergency (like speeding to the hospital when your wife is in labor, got pulled over, then escorted). But in this case, it might be one of those many cases where he did it because he could.

Once again though, it lacks prior context, and this guy was a complete ass about it. What he SHOULD of done, is silently filmed, made a complaint and submitted the video evidence. Complaints usually end up on the cops record even if they are found to be clear of charges, and those start to add up and can look bad for an officer. There is a difference between being proactive with your cause, and destructive.

Airs - La Femme D'Argent [Set to footage from 1905]

This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!).. It was filmed only four days before the quake and shipped by train to NY for processing.

Buster Keaton and friends--on getting laughs (interesting!)

IronDwarf says...

It is so cool to hear what those silent film stars sounded like. I never would have guessed that Buster Keaton sounded like that. I figured he had a classier, New England style accent.

And it is great to hear from people who have analyzed and studied this form of comedy so closely, to hear what they know innately because they've done it for so long.

Does anyone know who the other 2 comedians are? The CBC site doesn't list them.
