chop lifter

newtboy says...

Yep, Lode Runner is another game I had on the apple2.
Yeah, far too much of my childhood was spent in arcades so I have seen and played it, but I preferred scramble for side scrolling helicopter-like games, so chop lifter didn't eat too much of my money.
I think a friend also had the colecovision port that I've played.

Yeah, those jets were hard and annoying. I didn't get far. Didn't those hostages remind you of Lode Runner? Did you play the arcade port? That was cool.

So, I'm making a PC game for kids (Blog Entry by gwiz665)

Hope you have as much fun with your project as I did with my years making games. Okay, technically I was expanding existing games for the most part, but it was still a blast.

Personally, I wouldn't even begin to think about making games for young kids, as I have no experience with what sort of thing a normal kid considers fun. My stepson's favorite game at age three was a toss-up between a paint program (no attempt to make pictures, mind you, just smearing colors around on the screen), or a little side-scrolling wargame I've forgotten the name of, where you bought soldiers and helicopters that immediately headed for the enemy base under their own initiative.

I was left with the impression that his choices of games were the digital equivalent of previous generations tendency to prefer playing with the boxes rather than the toys.

can someone tell me how to upvote mauz's previous comment 10 times, please?

Actually, a paged or scrollable panel is susceptible to the same obliviousness as the current layout really. Unless the user is aware of the widget, it won't do the community any good. A client side scroll bar (embedded frame?) might do the trick to catch the user's eye. But let's try the consensus - roll back to the previous layout only on the first page. When things are getting too annoying again, then make the next small step. But that's the key - small moves Ellie, small moves.

Zero Punctuation: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I think the review was pretty informative, heres what I got from it.

- the controls suck..I think he said this 3 or 4 times. You would do no better by rolling your face across the pad.
- alot of content needs to be unlocked in long single player sessions, namely 2 of the characters that were being overly hyped for the game.
- single player was a bunch of repetitious side scrolling levels.

This being a fighter game, he pretty much touched on everything you should in a fighting game review. Fighting game reviews generaly don't cover the characters, you may or may not know them beforehand, eitherway I cant recall a street fighter, mk, or MSH review where we were introduced to "Ken", or "Sonya". Fighting games generally have no story, and character stories are never spoiled because it is escentialy the characters ending.

So what do we review in a fightig game? Controles...Check. Graphics...screen scales your character small, flash special effects..check! Content..only that you won't be seeing half of it for some time....check.

If anything was missing, it would probably be replayability. However yhatzee's reviews generaly center on all thats bad.. and throws in anything he found surprisingly good. So for this review he gets an A+.
