Law Student Prevails Over State Robot Thug

SquidCap says...

What i see is vigilantes and crazy people wanting to get shot down and martyred by cops.

I'm pretty sure that when you ask the citizens in a warn torn country where guns are actually a requisite to survival what they feel about people carrying guns out in the open and i'll bet they don't like it either. They just have to do it. You, on the other hand, carrying one in USA don't actually need it. If you open carry, you just like to scare people.

The whole "i'm allowed to do what i want" theme goes out the window when the symbol in question actually is designed to kill living things. I had to think hard what is the difference between other freedoms, say, gay pride parade. You have to just accept it no matter what you think about it. One could say the same about freedom to carry guns but that's where i draw the line: does it kill you or not. If it doesn't, deal with it and move on. If it does, remove it from the public. Not against guns in the privacy of your own home but they DO NOT belong to streets unless they are carried by a professional.

And no, i don't trust the law enforcement blindly but they enforce laws that we have allowed our representatives to put in place.. if you have a problem with laws, you take it where the laws are made, not to the people enforcing them... And definitely you don't scare everyone else getting one either, which this "open carry activism" WILL lead to: you see guns out in the open, "I think need one now just to pop to get some milk, better get my AK".. Stupid stupider gun-nut. The same people are "rolling coal" plus a host of other symptoms.

Having more guns will just leave to more violence, that is a fact that is definitely shown in study after study. The way non-carrying citizens react to this should be a clear sign: society does NOT want that. Isn't that enough reason to stop?

11 Questions Willy Wonka Left Unanswered

grinter says...

1. He’s a tinker. He fixes things, and sharpens knives
2. Someone who appreciates or is loyal to Wonka products, a fanboy.
3.He’s Mike’s friend.. the other questions are don’t stem from the movie.
4.He is sooo excited about the ticket that it has given him uncharacteristic strength (he’s obviously worn out after the dance). It’s a musical, stop being a dipshit.
5. Yes, no, no.
6. He’s doing it sneakily, the parents don’t notice (although some of the children later tell their parents).
7. Businessmen often use out of place, insincere physical contact as a device to demonstrate their sincerity and good nature.. and no, Mr. Beauregarde’s attempt at networking was thoroughly shot down.
8. No. no. and C’mon pay attention! ..and again, it’s a musical, although it’s also implied that the Oompa Loompas tend to sing and dance as they work.
9. No. Wonka and the tour don’t take the ferry when the leave the room, and there is clearly no way all of the Oompa Loompas would be able to use the ferry efficiently. and, no, no, no.
10. No. No one was seriously hurt, and the contract apparently had more to do with the contest (limited to the children) than protection from injury suits. Assault is not considered assault when its whimsical; it’s considered a prank.
11. Capitalist greed, and a lack of value placed on simple pleasures and imagination.

Cheers, mate.

It's quite fascinating that Manning has already been imprisoned for a longer period of time than Francis Gary Powers, the U2 pilot who was shot down by the Soviets and convicted of espionage.

@radx, perfect title, brother. Spot on, this is pretty much a Stalin era show trial.

US Air Force's Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser Defense Program

VoodooV says...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this sort of defense, but did anyone else think it was a little disturbing when they talked about the debris of the shot down missile falling on the country that fired it as a plus.

That's all fine and dandy, but there is no guarantee that the debris will damage anything that will impede the enemy war machine, if anything it will probably fall on the civilians of that country. Civilians whose only crime is living in the wrong country.

Still, I hate to say it, but it's a small price to pay to stop a potential attack of large magnitude.

Now...that out of the way. what the heck powers the lasers? The jet turbines couldn't be enough could it?

The new russian 5th generation stealth fighter Sukhoi T-50

skinnydaddy1 says...

Russia and China got huge boosts to their stealth programs when Lt. Col. Dale Zelko's f117 was shot down over Yugoslavia. Even thought the tech at that time was 25 years old. It was still way ahead of anything they had even come close to producing. It's also rather funny especially since the idea of the design was based off a paper written by Pyotr Ufimtsev, a Soviet mathematician in 1964.

I do find it strange this design looks far more like the Northrop YF-23 then it does the F22. Makes you wonder if someone at Northrop got pissed the f22 was picked over theirs and this was their revenge.

That's just a preview to give you an idea what the post will look like. We could make it so when you submit it is auto-up-voted, but 1) all attempts to add that have been shot down in the past and 2) there are (rare) occasions where you don't necessarily want to upvote the video you're submitting.

Boy Scout Was Denied His Eagle Badge Because He's Gay

chingalera says...

Known quite a few Eagle scouts 'n think the criteria they use at BSoA to get a scout there is pretty damn cool. But yeah, it's a private boy's club that can set criteria for membership according to their world view and through the years, have established their organization an iconic "American" institution.
Gay or not Scoutmaster, if anyone can get through your rigors and is poised to match the bar you have set AND he completes the prerequisites only to be shot-down in flames before graduation??...Well, you may have to adjust your shit before too many more "fags" make it to the gate...Because rest-assured, there's more representatives involved in your organization who remain in the closet than you have any idea of who respect the organization in spite of your policies....HELLO!!?? BOY scouts!!???

A new Quality? (Sift Talk Post)

Hybrid says...

I think it is the responsibility of the video submitter to decide on using the new embed, BUT things could be done to encourage a submitter to do that. What if the submitter was emailed when a backup was provided for one of their videos? They could then check it and choose to swap it in.

I had a similar request when we first got custom thumbnails. I wanted to be able to replace the thumbnails for other people's videos (if they hadn't provided a custom one). But it was shot down (and probably rightly so), that it should be up to the owner. You know, people could have created thumbnails that might have been visually nicer and attention grabbing, but spoiled a joke for example.

But yeah, somehow notifying the owner of a new embed, must be the easiest form of encouragement.... unless we want a *backupandreplace=... invocation?

Reasons Why American Riots Will Be The Worst In The World

ulysses1904 says...

There has always been "a lot of frightening shit on the horizon", no matter what decade you lived in. For every person that looks back at the 1950s as idyllic and calm there is somebody who was convinced their life would end that year in a nuclear war. Same goes for any other time period. Myself, I was convinced at the time that there would be nuclear war when the Soviets shot down that Korean passenger jet in September 1983. And now it's been pretty much forgotten.

I've been affected by the economic downturn over the past 10 years, just like everyone I know. And I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about the future of the economy either. But as someone said, there never was the "good old days", things have always been changing and in turmoil in some respect. I take all the fearful predictions with a grain of salt. >> ^Jinx:

idk, I think there is a certain amount of truth in this. I mean ok, I don't think we'll be seeing blood running in the streets but idk, there is a lot of frightening shit on the horizon and I do wonder how well we'll adapt and how much growing pains will be involved.

As for the LEGO™ Playset don't bother looking for it, it got the required votes, but I'm afraid LEGO™ has a stick up their ass about it. Its just zombies for hells sakes! Let people have their fun, I'd get my kids that, assuming they think zombies are cool.

I'm sure they have police Playsets that of course are really age inappropriate considering the amount of shear violence in the movies and television police roles portray... Do we really want are kids to become police? They seemingly shoot more often than soldiers in war movies--I'm not kidding, pick a fairly violent cop drama and compare a semi-average war drama (nothing over the top for both or you'll end up with things like Dirty Harry vs. Rambo). But LEGO is happy to portray them non-stop... (yes, I know this is all a tongue-in-cheek response, but I really would like one to stick in the corner of the room, it's awesome, just look at it!).

I still love my LEGO™s, especially now that they can get so damned complex.
