Fuck off, bike thieves.

I think it's quite obvious she was smoking.

Something kinda strange, look at 0:05 just before the lead girl comes in line with the first tree, there's a sorta misty, amorphous form that shoots out ahead of her. What is that?
My first thought was visible breath on a cold day, but the volume seems kinda large for that and people in the video are wearing shorts and short sleeves which would seem to preclude conditions being that cold. Dunno, just find it kinda curious.

@CaptainObvious, the Sift needs you!

Here's that study you wanted
Assuming a mid-range estimate of 120m stops per year, the likelihood of the cop being killed in a traffic stop is 1 in 20 million.
Your chances of being attacked by a shark is 1 in 11.5 million, according to the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File. Lightning strikes are a bit more common even than that.
>> ^MrFisk:
How many cars are pulled over in the U.S., in a year? How many result in a fatality to the officer? I'm trying to figure out if it's more likely they'll be shot, hit by lightning, or bitten by a shark.

An interesting correlation to add (and there might not be any info on this) is to add how many traffic stops resulted in an arrest for something AND there was a weapon in the car. Any such case is a potential shoot out that didn't occur (well, except for when a shoot out occured).

Exclude Texas though, because there's pretty much guns laying out on street corners. "Timmy put that pistol down, you don't know where it's been!".

Palin Mangles Paul Revere

Crosswords says...

Yup sending those warning shots out with that six shooter gun he had gotten when a time traveling Wyatt Earp came back to help Revere make sure the British didn't still our weapons, so he'd still have a weapon at the OK Corral shoot out.

See I can mangle history too, and mine is more interesting. Summer blockbuster here I come.

Gears of War 3 - Premiere Trailer

gwiz665 says...

Nah, I just can't get excited about this. It looks very pretty and all, but it's just going to be another "hide behind shit and shoot out" kind of shooter that's fun on the consoles but pure shit on PCs like the first two and Mass Effect 2. Bah humbug.

Fireworks fail

curiousity says...

I remember one night... it must have been July 4th, some friends and I wandered down a a party at house of a girl another friend was dating. On the other side of the road was a cliff overlooking the freeway and lake below. Someone had take one of those round 100- or 150-missile fireworks and propped it up on a rock so it would shoot over the cliff towards the water. On the first missile, the firework came off the rock and rested on its side. A missile would shoot out and cause the firework to spin around almost slowing to a stop before the next missile. Everyone was ducking behind parked cars to make sure they didn't get hit. I think I may have ended up behind a car laying on the ground laughing. Of course a couple a beer and a handful of mushrooms can put someone in a very good mood. Ah, the joys of a well-spent youth.

TYT: WikiLeaks To Expose Fox News?

TheFreak says...

Assange needs some sort of electronic deadman's switch. Like a program he has to log into every month and if he doesn't it automatically shoots out tons of documents to all the major media outlets.

Just because it would be awesome.

Congresswoman Giffords talks about Palins gun crosshair pic

shagen454 says...

There already was a nutjob rightwinger who was caught on his way to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) who was luckily stopped by the po-po and got into a 15 minute shoot out. He was on his way to start a "revolution" by mass murdering people of "importance" (ACLU?! and the Tides Foundation?!). The whole thing wreaked of a braindead FOX News, Sarah Palin, Tea Party, Glenn Beck considering only listeners of Glenn Beck would even know who the Tides Foundation are, put the word "revolution" in there and it's telltale sign of the Tea Parties neo-fascist ideologies.

Future First Person Shooter

Hmm, I think I'll wait for the Columbine edition.

I heard it sucks, the gameplay is a few hours long, weapon selection and physics are terrible (you can't even barricade or use a chair as a weapon). The AI is comparable to SWAT 4's hostage system (run/cower). And at the end there's not even a shoot-out; you just decide to off yourself at sompoint (and they suck at that, the console opens up and types in the /s command).

-Dark comedy. Suck on it; I don't care if you can see Logan Airport.

Unreal Engine 3 - 2010 Engine Overview Trailer

kceaton1 says...

There are better engines available already (except for the higher poly/shader/texture attributes). Hell this OLD pic of Crysis with crappy settings does almost everything the Unreal engine does and then it ups the ante by having FULL physics (killing an enemy by shooting out a leaning tree and watch it fall on him never gets old), a "stuck-in-a-box" solution (go where you want; also as a side note, limiting the playing area allows developers to throttle everything up since they render a one-block area vs. a metropolis).

The only problem I have with the Unreal engine is that it forsook many strides it made on the PC and then they pushed HARD to make themselves console friendly. That's another reason why their tools are great. Deathspank is a good example of what can be done with that engine when you think outside the pantomime of shooter console mimic.

But, in the end as was said above, it comes down to hardware.
