I'm a little surprised by the ignorance of the comments here. Human sexuality and gender is so complex, must we be constantly reminding people that things are never simply black and white but many shades of grey?

About this film, to just highlight some of the heights of absurdity that the so-called intellectual property (which isn't really "property" at all in any consistent definition of the word) can reach, here's something an anti-IP expert, Stephan Kinsella (who, as it happens, is, ironically, also an IP lawyer) said about this new movie, 'Oz the Great and Powerful':

"So, for IP reasons, it's not technically a prequel to the 1939 movie by MGM. This is a Disney film, and it has to follow the original Baum books, not the 1939 movie. That's why in one scene, the witch in the new movie doesn't say "my pretties." She says something like "my pretty ... one." In the spirit of Godwin, I propose a new internet law that describes the inevitability of the MSNBC false equivalency whenever a comment or topic criticizes FOX news.

I think the days of intrepid journalism are largely over for most of the news sources you mentioned, but there still are pockets of resistance to the inanity that passes as news in America. Regardless of whichever political ideolgy you most identify with, you cannot dismiss MSNBC as opposite but equal to FOX. MSNBC is most definitely liberal/progressive, but they wear it on their sleeve, and their spin is backed by facts and reality. FOX spins everything, and completely misinforms it's viewers fans by simply making shit up, not to mention the ubiquitous fear-mongering, the subliminal programming of their crawl, the always-angry, paranoid, petty, spiteful, and shrill talking heads, and the daily memo'd bullet points that are regurgitated verbatim and hammered into the brains of their veiwers all day long from show to show. The dolts on FOX and Friends have got to be the three DUMBEST people ever to thousand-yard stare into a camera. FOX is "news entertainment" at best.

There are infinite shades of gray between black and white, and MSNBC is definitely biased, but you can't say it isn't factual (the vast majority of time). If there was a true "equal but opposite" version of MSNBC, I would watch it. Unfortunately, FOX serves only as a source of amusement for me. "No Spin Zone" makes me giggle every time Papa Bear says it. It's brilliant parody.

That said, we agree that Americans are largely low information because low information is exactly what we get from the news sources readily available. But the "truth" is out there if one cares enough to go look for it.

secondly, this presentation takes the position that porn is a negative influence, for which I would say that any extension of society, whether it be porn or hollywood movies, is a mix of influences, and many shades of grey.

I've haven't had enough experience with it to give an informed opinion. I've seen people practice it, but never with an opponent. That doesn't mean it doesn't work though. As I said, I don't really want to give an opinion on something I have only a passing familiarity with.

To expand on what I said earlier, I have no idea if this woman has any legitimate martial arts background or not. Her website lists "extreme martial arts" which makes me dubious, and "qualified martial arts instructor" but it doesn't say in what style, or whose accreditation she's qualified with.

It's quite possible she could kick seven shades of shit out of me, but I wouldn't call what is demonstrated in this video martial arts.

She's still pretty awesome though. I would kill for that kind of flexibility and co-ordination, but I'm old now.

Some of you probably know I'm a few shades pinker than Castro. Yet I'm disappointed by the left on this matter. I first got nervous when the gun control debate began following the Javon Belcher (KC chief player) incident. It seemed ridiculous to me because obviously no form of reasonable gun control could have stopped an incident like that. It was a linebacker murdering his slight girlfriend and then committing suicide. He didn't need a gun. Still the media began the debate as though they were clearly itching too. That was quickly overshadowed by the Sandy Hook tragedy which was a much more effective rallying cause. Obviously it's natural for the debate to be rekindled after that sort of an incident, but I was disappointed by how disingenuous and emotionally driven it seemed. I couldn't help but think about the availability heuristic ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Availability_heuristic ) and how obviously it was coming into play. I thought the left would be better than this. We're supposed to be known for our rejection of knee-jerk responses preferring instead data driven policy. I was reminded of the Republican line-toeing following 9/11. It honestly sickened me.

The fact is every stat I've seen supports this guy's claim (and I spent many hours doing my own research, not just quoting links I found on huffpo or whatever). There is effectively no data that supports the sort of legislation being put forth and virtually no reason to fear that your children are at risk. Basically every case made against assault rifles can be made with much more conviction about alcohol. They are things that a subset of people enjoy, yet occasionally cause harm to people that don't. Alcohol much more so (by a huge factor, something like hundreds depending on how you measure it) than assault rifles. This incident is being used in keeping with Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine. Don't get duped just because they are playing to your fears instead of redneck fears.

Also, it isn't racist to suggest that a large portion of the US murder rate is urban gang and drug related. That's a fact. That someone would even suggest that it is racist further sickens me. You all seem more interested in political correctness than data. Put on your skeptics hat folks. Question what you believe for once.

Let's do some math...
5 billion panels at approximately $10K each at (far less than) today's prices for regular home panels which may be as low as $500 each when on sale, purchased in bulk, and discontinued models (note his panels are 12'x12', which is approximately 15-20 normal size panels spliced together) This means JUST the panels for his idea would cost over $50 TRILLION (at the insane discount price I described). This does not include instalation (labor and hardware), inverters, wireing, transmission, super-glass coating, heater, LED setup, .... All this is usually at least 2/3 -3/4 the cost of a solar system without super-glass, so lets be stupidly kind again and say his system can be put together at the same cost per watt as a cheap home system (which is insanity, it would cost 10 times that per watt or per square foot at least, probably more like 100 times with the super glass), that comes to >$150 TRILLION. Then you need to completely redesign cars (even the already electrics) to capture and use the electricity, another huge, ignored cost of this system. Just an educated guess, it seems like a realistic number for this entire nation wide system would likely be well over $3000Trillion. Get real.
Also, in what world are most roadways not shaded, it's not the one I live in.
And I guess we won't be driving at night anymore, or should we spend another $100-$1000 trillion to line the roadways with batteries?
They answer the comment 'you'll just slip off when it's wet' with 'it's nearly as stong as steel'. ? Perhaps they think sliding off the road is fine, I don't.
They imply they think they're system is cheaper than asphalt, or soon will be. That's just plain wrong under the best (or worst) of circumstances.
The entire 'pressure plate' idea is just stupid, it ignores the energy used to push the plate down, which is the same as constantly climbing a steep hill, or really more like constantly driving up stairs.
