'Cornerstore Caroline' calls 911 on 9 year old for 'groping'

newtboy says...

No Bob, just no.
Almost every leftist believed Ford should have an opportunity to tell her story and present corroborating evidence, only the former occurred, she was not allowed the latter.
That is the voice of reason.
Claiming it was a political setup before having an iota of information, that is what every right winger did, where is this voice of reason there?

Wow, considering the men who's word you do accept at face value, you are hardly an appropriate person to be making such blatantly sexist suggestions.

I have to wonder what would have happened if the boy had done the right thing and apologized for bumping her instead of pretending he hadn't and his parents assuming she must be a racist asshat because she's white and calling him out. I would hazard a guess that it would have been over before it started had he not been a jerk first.

Kanovaugh-- Every leftest believed Ford- on her word alone. Where was the voice of reason then? Maybe if Kanovaugh was black. Oh wait never mind Democrats pulled that stunt on Clarence Thomas. Political Witch hunts are blind.

Don't take a woman's word at face value.

Crazy women like this need to be caged up -- they are dangerous to males.

I do feel sorry for this young boy. He did nothing except be a kid.
I also for sad for our society that encourages crazy women like this.

Daily Show : Trump Weaponizes Victimhood to Defend Kavanaugh

Yes.... but at the same time clearly mocking her to anyone with half brain (so about 2% of his audience).

The same way that I can tell you that I think Trump is really, bigly smart and not at all a narcissistic, hobbit-handed, sexist, racist asshole and you can figure out that I'm not being 100% genuine.

A Scary Time

@ChaosEngine:
"The first 3 levels of sexual violence ALL involve no physical contact and are entirely verbal. "
100% fine with this. You can be a creepy sleazebag without touching someone and it's still not ok.

Perhaps you misunderstand. I also oppose verbal harassment and discrimination. I disagree with calling sexist and racist comments acts of violence. I agree with condemning them and acting to stop them.

Real world example, a Canadian student TA at Wilfred Laurier University played a short clip of a publicly broadcast debate over trans pronoun usage between 2 U of T professors in a class. She was brought into a meeting with 3 WLU staff who told her she was horribly wrong for doing so because playing that clip was "an act of violence" against any trans students in the room.

This abuse of language is manipulative and wrong.

I'm a man, and I'm not scared of being accused of sexual assault. None of my male friends are scared either.

With burden of proof I'm thinking beyond merely sexual assault. This already practice in forms in Canada. Ontario has an entire system of Social Justice Tribunals that run parallel to the criminal court system. It's been a gradual transformation of the civil court system, so civil and family courts are lumped in as tribunals now there. The specific one relevant in this case is the human rights tribunal. If the WLU faculty, or a student from the classroom, wanted to file a human rights complaint for the 'violence' they faced, the burden of proof would be a preponderance of the evidence rather than innocent until proven guilty. Which I can even understand in some cases, but lets not say that doesn't make people nervous about being falsely accused. That is not what scares people the most though in Ontario. The social justice tribunals have paid for legal representation for the accusers, and so the government foots the financial costs for the accuser. The accused however is on their own. The erosion of burden of proof and fear of financial damages from malicious or vengeful complaints is a very, very real thing in Canada. Accusations of sexual harassment being just one of many kinds of accusations that you can be damaged by while entirely innocent.

I dare you not to find this mind-blowing!

I find all the sexist comments unbelievable. I guess some folks have issues with their self-identity even into adulthood.

These are two beautiful dancers with great strength, agility and creativity. I have two daughters who were in classical ballet for 9 years and we all enjoy this amazing dance. Between my oohs and aahs of the many startling movements, I laughed and laughed.

This video is about a dance, not you.--Gloria

Historically Bizarre US Open 2018 Highlights

No other instance got caught, but every coach did it? That's your argument?

No one said she didn't deserve a warning for the racket smash, not even her.

Do men get away with that level of abuse?
Remember McEnroe? He got famous for it.

Yep, mention games where players can't discuss calls with the referee at all, that makes a point well.

I don't know this was sexist, it seemed more personal to me. You're right, men shouldn't get away with this, but they do.

vil said:

Come on @newtboy

She was being coached, she did smash her racket, she did run her mouth.

Not every instance of coaching gets caught. Unlucky or bad execution.

Most smashings of rackets are punished.

Do men really get away with that level of verbal abuse?
I believe she in fact got a lot of leeway because she is Serena, black and at home.

Preferably she should have gotten a sterner warning first to shut up or be hit with a game penalty.

She would be out of a basketball game, football game, golf tournament. In baseball and hockey she would be mocked for being a crybaby.

Men should not get away with this childish behaviour either.

Jim Jefferies: James Gunn, Bad Jokes and Twitter Outrage

Personally, I think the difference is whether you grow and move on. I've certainly said some stupid shit in the past, and I'm lucky enough that there wasn't any kind of social media to have a permanent record of it.

But I'd like to think if someone produced evidence of me being racist (unlikely), sexist (probably) or homophobic (definitely), I would be able to say "yeah, that guy was an idiot, I'm sorry for what he/I said, but I'm not that stupid anymore".

The Check In: Betsy DeVos' Rollback of Civil Rights

newtboy says...

Try reading again. You have it totally backwards.

When was I insulting or dismissive? Because it was unforseen that educated people would elect a bombastic insulting sexist popularist con man who was obviously lying to them simply because he wore a red hat and tie? Those are facts, not opinion. Many of them are saying how much they regret it now.

I offered solutions you appeared to agree with, like funding lower education so everyone has a decent, if not equal, opportunity to get an education.
Using race as ONE criteria amongst many for admission is not ideal, as I said, but until a better system for identifying and addressing financial and societal issues that stymie opportunities for people often based on their pigmentation is created, it's the best we've got.

What we don't have is what you imply is the problem.....rich white men with 1570 SAT scores (old school SAT, I don't know how it's scored now) and 3.9 gpas are not being turned away from Yale to make room for indigent African American women with 990 SATs and 2.7 gpas...but the Latina woman with 1550 and 3.6 gpa earned while raising 2 siblings and holding a full time job, yeah, she gets the slot, and that's proper. One skewed test that benefits one privileged group is hardly a decent measure of their work ethic or intelligence....often it's only an indication they hired the right student to take the SAT for them. There were at least 3 hired test takers out of 30 students taking the PSAT when I took it, we talked afterwards.

It is the right (and people making the arguments you are) who are far more insulting and dismissive of non white people's frustrations at being racially discriminated against....to a level and consistency exponentially higher than the trifling discriminations whites suffer. That doesn't mean some whites don't suffer some deleterious effects, it means they come out way ahead in the discrimination game.

You wish to ignore all racial discrimination and racial obstacles except that single instance you can point to where it doesn't come out in your favor, then suddenly racism IS a problem that needs eradicating....but only the kind that harms white guys, forget the myriad of insurmountable racist mountains non whites climb daily, both institutional and societal, this speed bump for whites is unconscionable and must be removed immediately!

Come back and whine about institutional anti white bias when anti white racism permeates every facet of your life but not when your race doesn't give you a free leg up that one time. Maybe talk to your right wing friends about why funding education for others is good for you as step one towards eliminating programs like this that address inequities in opportunities, and giving the less fortunate extra opportunity to overcome their situation is good for all. After reasonable basic educational opportunities are available for all, schools will still take the student's home life, finances, and extra curricular activities into account....with luck that will be on an individual basis eventually, but that's not likely until education reforms occur that give everyone an opportunity to display their skills on a more level field..

bcglorf said:

Being insulting and dismissive of people's frustrations at being racially discriminated against as your post appears to do just makes for more division still.

Just worried about girls and woman. Kinda of sexist .

Just school shootings? What we don't care about inner city shootings of which represent some 95% of all shootings.

Considering its slew of liberal funders, it’s hard to see March for Our Lives as anything more than just another gun control group bought and paid for by the professional Left.

Ladies.. here is why 99% of Guys don't approach you..

Jinx says...

I'm usually more worried that I am going to be rejected by somebody I have to, you know, see again on Monday morning. I kinda feel that If you are genuinely concerned that asking somebody out could be seen as sexual harassment...then you might be doing it wrong. Yeah, I think it is unfair and sexist that men are expected to the ones to initiate (unfair on both sexes actually...), but let's not go overstate things and pretend that our difficulties finding a partner is because the world wants to paint us all as rapists.

00Scud00 said:

So if they were just jerks she'd still be dating them then?

I can't help but think that in today's atmosphere this problem will only get worse as now men are afraid they'll be called sexual harassers if they so much as ask a co-worker out on a date.

Australian Men Are All Considered Pedophiles

newtboy says...

No, I didn't. Thanks for the heads up.
Youtube suggested it, maybe because I've watched some videos Bob posted?
I actually looked up the show to be sure they were not just some internet flunkie making up bombastic bullshit, because this seemed like it might be...but had no way to know their reputation. Are they known for completely making up crazy inflammatory bullshit like Hannity?

Can you verify this is nonsense, or is this a real sexist Aussie airline policy now under review? If it's all bullshit, I'll gladly kill it. If it's true, but somewhat hyperbolic, I'll retitle to indicate that.

ChaosEngine said:

@newtboy, you do realise you're promoting the Aussie equivalent of Sean Hannity here, right?

Today Tonight is a fucking joke, and I wouldn't insult the concept of journalism by comparing it what to what they do.

I haven't looked into this particular issue, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it's typical right-wing scaremongering.

Seth Meyers Opens 2018 Golden Globes

Say what you want about Trump, and fuck knows I despise the illiterate, racist, sexist, homophobic, moron... but he totally deserved person of the year. The exact same way Hitler did.

And there's no way in hell Sanders would win as an independent, at least, not until you fix your thoroughly broken electoral system.

Officer disciplined after getting angry over White Privilege

newtboy says...

Saying white privilege exists may be stating a sociological fact, but saying someone is incapable of comprehension because of their male white privilege is a racist (and sexist) insulting dismissive statement, particularly when in response to a basic statistical question.

I'm confused on what you mean in your last sentence....do you mean it's hard to see why he got so upset because they disciplined him, or hard to see why he got so upset that he had to be disciplined?

ChaosEngine said:

I feel like we’re not getting the whole story here.

Out of context, it’s hard to know why she said anything about white male privilege (and no, that’s not a racist statement, it’s a sociological fact).

It’s equally hard to see why he got so upset he was disciplined.

A feminist comes to terms with the Men's Rights movement

newtboy says...

If you would ever advocate for a man's rights or against a woman's privilege, no, you would fail the feminist purity test, imo.

Absolutely, the label we use is less important than the actions we perform, but it's not meaningless.
Feminism is exactly as sexist as masculinism....but point taken.

Please note that affirmative action absolutely is racist, though. It divides people into races then treats the different races differently...the very definition of racism. I don't see how denying that fact accomplishes anything, it just sets up a future problem that mirrors the one you're working to solve. Ignoring that means you likely won't stop the pendulum swing at the center and we'll be right back where we started eventually.

Jinx said:

So I'm not a true feminist? I mean, I confess I wasn't born in Scotland but...

Semantics. I've argued them before.

I guess yes, feminism is as sexist as, say, affirmative action is racist. Making allowances for a disability, is, I suppose, a sort of discrimination too.

Anyway. What we call ourselves on the internet probably doesn't matter very much.

True feminists will never fight to end an inequality they benefit from, neither will a mascilinist.
Those wishing to support gender equality should avoid supporting either sexist movement.
