Mieders Alpine Coaster - Frustrated Guy Crashes

newtboy says...

Ahhh, I just watched again, they all 3 (4?) stopped suddenly in front of him in a hard turn after going full speed, hitting each other to stop so suddenly. He had absolutely no chance to brake. Now who's the douchebag? Maybe the ones who intentionally stopped short on a high speed course, knowing full well they were being followed at speed by someone already pissed off that they were creeping down and stopping repeatedly?
If you disagree, let me know where you live and what you drive, I want to come cut you off and screech to a stop in front of you on the freeway so you can buy me a new car. ;-}

Dude, the guys a douche: He should have asked the woman in front of him (who wasn't really into the adrenaline rush as much as he was) to trade frikkin' cars with her at the first opportunity-Whip-lashing her from behind when he could have braked....DOUCHEBAAAAAAG!

Motorbike scares Pug

Darkhand says...

Since when do Motorbike's have 4 wheels?

Also this is why I'll never own a pug. Between the snoring and the horrible screeching noises they make.

Django and Schulz Shooting Practice

I like how the spent brass makes a tinkling sound in the snow.

Just like how you often hear the screech of tires in a movie when a car peels onto a dirt road.

I Don't Think She Can Believe It

I can't tell what's going on exactly, obviously someone is surprised/excited, but I don't understand over what. too much screeching and too many interruptions.

Nasty 'Killer' Hummingbirds In UltraSlo Motion

xxovercastxx says...

They make this high-pitched squeal/screech when they attack, too. When I was in HS, living at my dad's house, I had a basketball hoop in the driveway. I was out playing one day and the ball rolled into the yard by the humming bird feeder. As I bent over to pick up the ball, I heard EEEEEEEE!, along with that harsh buzzing noise their wings make, shoot over my head.

As I stood up and looked around, I spotted the little guy hovering about 8' up. He made the screech again and darted back and forth. I got the ball and got the hell out of there. I'm sure he couldn't seriously injure me, short of taking an eye out, but who wants to be poked full of little holes?

An Englishman's View Of A Presidential Debate In 2012

TheFreak says...

Sounds like every debate and speech given by Bachmann.
Did anyone else notice that Michele Bachmann's entire platform was, "ObAAAmaaah"?

Seriously, all she ever did was screech his name in that high pitch voice while her insane eyes bore into your soul.

Snoring dog wakes to the smell of food

Porksandwich says...

People wake up to smells. The point of the fire detector is that you might not be able to detect it at certain levels. It's also why we have carbon monoxide testers too, since we can't smell that period.

Once it reaches the "You wake up because of X", you might be in a room surrounded by flames and unable to escape...that's the point of having a fire detector to screech at you.

Also smoke doesn't just come in full blast, it does it gradually most times. You may not wake up to it if it were very gradual about it's increase until it became overwhelming. Much like with sound you can sleep through rain, but when a huge lightning strike followed up by rolling thunder will wake you up. Breaking glass is also a good example.

Police Fire On Men Women and Children w/ Non Lethal Rounds

quantumushroom says...

The problem with your riposte is that doesn't address my comment. The "justice" of a shooting by police where the facts are not yet known is not the concern of this sift. An angry mob outnumbering cops, say, 10 to 1, leaves cops with little option but to defend themselves from being killed. Or do you expect them to let mobs simply kill them?

A mob is not a gaggle of angry but thoughtful/idealistic/rational individuals, it's a "monster" with its own appetites, savage and anonymous. Witness riots by fans of sports teams that have won.

Do angry mobs run into burning buildings? Do they try to pile in to an ambulance while EMTs are attempting to load a stretcher? Then why the approval of fking with police trying to do a job?

The facts surrounding this shooting have yet to come to light.

Ignorance is expecting perfection from any human being, including cops.

"Hey, I just got a great idea, let's all form an angry mob and go scream at police, even though we have no idea what the hell's going on. We do know some guy was shot and killed. We have no idea why he was running from police, whether he threatened police with deadly force or had just killed someone else--hell, we don't have context for any of this--all I know is I'm with this mob screeching at police. Bring the kids, they'll want to see this!"

That's bullshit. It doesn't matter if the people here were ignorantly lead to believe a lie about what they were protesting or if they were just plain wrong and supported a radical ideal. We shouldn't do this in America where even the ignorant like yourself are protected. We should support those with differing opinions with a dialog, not brute force. You and those in political office that support your fucked up vision of the world are the reason we're in this in the first place.

20 on red collar! He's smaller, but he looks scrappy.
Seriously though, this seems like yet another example of cameramen who should have stopped recording and taken action to prevent what was clearly about to happen.

Personally, I like how the final screech is probably the camera "person".

Timing Belt - the Forgotten Belt

We just bought a 2 year old Kia Grand Carnival (the Sedona in America), replacing our old 2002 Carnival that had it's engine die after a tiny bloody plastic T joint snapped causing the radiator water to spew onto the road instead of around the engine to cool it. This resulted in an engine that overheated very quickly and a system that was de-pressurised, and apparently not really able to be re-pressurised (don't tell me it could, I don't want to know that it was actually a cheap fix when we're told the engine was cactus... don't want to know we needlessly just paid out a chunk of money on a new car that we didn't need to).
Aaaanyway.
When I was looking into whether the engines in the new Carnivals are any good (apparently they are, Hyundai Lambda engines made in the US of A), I noticed they made a big deal on the wikipedia page about it having a timing CHAIN rather than belt, and wondered why this was a big thing.
Now I know <img class="smiley" src="http://cdn.videosift.com/cdm/emoticon/tongue.gif">

Here is me, NOT telling you it was a cheap fix, even if the engine seized from overheating after you ignored the "check engine" warning light. I also won't tell you that if it didn't come to a screeching, banging, violent halt, you probably could have "nursed" it home/to mechanic by waiting until it cooled down.
No sir, I REFUSE to tell you any of that.
I will tell you that if the reason it couldn't be pressurized was "a warped cylinder head" then ya, the engine is boned, but I'll avoid saying it would be about $2500 for a motor out of a auto wrecker (junk yard, used parts lot, etc) or even around $300 for a new cylinder head.

Well that's good to know (sort of). My wife was driving it at the time, and the check engine didn't come on, but it did come to a screeching, banging halt, with steam pouring out of the engine bay. To get an engine from one of these old ones rebuilt is around $4K (Australian), and that's about all the 2002 carnival is worth now, no-one wants to touch them. There's no point getting a 2nd hand engine from anywhere as there's not many to begin with, and they're just not reliable enough to spend the money on anyway.

So it was either a scrap yard for $500, or a trade in for $600. We had to be able to drive it in. Limped it in (still no check engine light on), handed it over, bid them good luck with it. We had told them the engine had blown up, but they were 'well, if you can drive it in, we'll give you $600 for it'. So it's not like we lied to them about the condition of the car. They'll scrap it for parts anyway.
