It sounds a lot like "tomatometer" methodology gives a result closer to a median than a mean. But both are useful, given both numbers you get an idea of the variability in scores, I'd love to see review aggregation sites express variability in some clear way.

For now, if you just want a site filtered by average, use Metacritic.

One thing he didn't discuss was user rating vs critic rating. Generally I find that critic ratings are way off on some films because they are judging it against fucking Shakespeare when that's not the type of movie it is.

When the critic score is more than 20% off of the user score, I know I should definitely ignore the critics.

The outcome was astonishing, even i couldn't believe it and i've been campaigning for it since 2015. All of this might be out of date 3 hours after i post it, because things are happening fast.

Theresa May has decided to go into government with the DUP propping her up. If you have kept up in the last 6 weeks or so with all the smears about Corbyn/IRA/Sinn Fein and terrorism, then you should understand that the DUP is basically the *other* side of the irish conflict. They are socially conservative and many of their beliefs fall in line with sharia laws; abortion illegal (including for sexual assault or incest cases), homophobia wrong and harmful to society, creationist beliefs, climate change deniers. That list might have less impact to some in the US but in British politics, it's out there on the fringe, quite extreme.

In a month from tomorrow there will be the July marches in Northern Ireland (and elsewhere in UK), and we already saw a march yesterday where unionists (~DUP supporters) trashed a nationalist pub (~Sinn Fein supporters).

So now consider. Nationalists have been dragged through the dirt by Conservative MPs and in the press; accused of being terrorists in order to smear Corbyn to stop him getting power. Whereas unionists are being courted by the Conservative government, and the press turning a blind eye to the DUP and their connections to domestic terrorism.

The northern irish peace process was a great achievement and still stands despite bad feeling on both sides. Part of the good friday agreement that ensures this peace says that the UK and Irish governments must act as neutral mediators in times of disagreement between factions in NI.

So now it becomes clear why Jeremy Corbyn refused to criticise either the unionists or the nationalists in particular - as a true leader with a fucking brain in his head, he understood that to take sides or score points would be to risk Britain's safety and the safety of communities in NI. The reason people were able to smear him as a terrorist sympathiser and danger to this country is *because* he refused to say or do anything that endangered this country.

And it becomes rather worrying that the tories have risked all of that hard work and all of our safety in order to keep power for just a little bit longer. There are already talks of a legal challenge from nationalists.

The good side to this is that it seems doomed to failure. May's credibility is broken, in the UK and in Europe. The alliance with the DUP almost certainly can't happen or last very long. The only alternative leaders to May would make the Conservatives less popular. Polls that saw this surge coming are predicting now that Labour would do even better if another election happened right now. The last time this happened was Ted Heath, whose minority government did not last long, and Labour took over after a few days, and won an election a few months later.

Austerity is well and truly broken as an ideology.

Oh, and all the talk of "the death of social democracy" in europe was actually the death of triangulating centrists who have become completely alienated from ordinary people. Socialism lives.

That's a pretty awesome trailer that reminds me of a terrible movie that was terrible even when it was released, that I should watch again, called Brainscan - featuring Eddie Furlong. If you look at it's RT page it has a 17% critic score but 61% liked it - so it's definitely one of those weird "cult" flicks. Eh, whatever - reviews suck these days just like mainstream news you can't delineate shit from em, just like this game - it's been getting pretty bad scores and pretty good scores. Me, if I wanted to play this game - I'd just go play Quake. That game is still badass to this day.

The bit about needing credit card debt to build your credit score is not entirely true. There are a lot of other factors that go into a credit score.

I recently looked up mine and was amazed it's pretty high, even though I never use my credit card and very rarely use my line of credit. It seems just having the same account for a long time and always paying bills on time is enough. And with a debit card you get the convenience of a rectangle made of dead dinosaurs without borrowing money constantly.

Disney are actually using the music and the lyrics to have the desired specific emotional effect on their musically and geographically poorly informed audience. Specific languages are present not for accuracy or making sense, purely for cinematic effect. It is much easier to use a real language and real obscure culture references than trying to come up with something original, like Klingon. Correct use of a specific language or musical reference is probably just an inside joke. Everything Disney does is cultural appropriation, that is their day job. They dont do documentaries, they are into compiled rehashed fairytales. If that one song was PC it was probably done that way on purpose, decided by Disneys equal opportunities department. A proper Inuit movie would have to be shot from an Inuit script with an Inuit score drawn by real Inuit men on Inuit snow in the only possible way you can draw while your fingers are freezing.

I have to wonder how are the lanes oiled? As that can effect one's scores greatly. Are they using a professional oil pattern, sport, recreational, or an even more casual pattern that favors strikes? Still impressive, as you still have to actually bowl it semi-decent even with recreational patterns... I once wanted to open a Family Entertainment Center, of which a bowling center would be a focus, using a Kegel lane machine, despite the fact I'm not a bowler...

I tried to track down a Wings game summary video last night after getting home from a different hockey game; too many barley pops to seal the deal so thanks Milkman Dan for posting this and thanks for detailing the significance; I'd just heard young Russian scores shootout gamewinner and had visions of Datsyuk v2.0 even though that it will likely not work out as well for Evgeny; a boy can dream though...

Aha! This is pretty recent, and I've seen the actual play that is being, uh, highlighted.

The Colorado Avalanche (COL, white jerseys) are dead last in the NHL this season, and it isn't even close. They are beyond terrible. I'm a fan, but this season is so grim that I can't bring myself to watch games; just catch up once in a while on a week or two's worth of bad news. I saw this play came up just a few days ago.

In the play in question here (can't see much of it in the video, I'll embed below) a Colorado player gets a breakaway. Scoring a goal wouldn't do anything dramatic like get them back in the game, or save the season or anything. But it might save some pride and make it actually appear like they are professional hockey players. Hell, I think Avs fans would have been happy if he just hopelessly shot the puck right into the logo on the goalie's chest. Going through the motions would be an improvement for this team.

Instead, he inexplicably decides to stop, turn around, and attempt to pass to his teammate a few strides back. But the pass is intercepted by a defenseman from the other team, because OF COURSE it is. So they went from a guaranteed scoring chance (a breakaway shot) to nothing. Pretty much sums up their season, in one play.

If you have children, you absolutely have a dog in the fight. By homeschooling them, you, statistically (and the few statistics available are heavily biased FOR home schooled children, comparing volunteered home school test scores with the entire public school population), are giving them a better grasp of English, but worse understanding of math, and certainly aren't doing well teaching science. You also leave them with absolutely no real life education on interpersonal relationships, which are almost as important, since you can't use your knowledge if no one will work with you because you are a spoiled narcissist incapable of listening to others.

After 25+ years of education at 13+ different schools, I've NEVER heard the lesson, that you can ONLY learn through formal schooling, taught in any school, and I know of no one who thinks that way, from pre-school teachers to the many Stanford professors I know. Based on my excessive experience, this is absolutely NOT a lesson taught in average schools. You are simply mistaken about that.

For those who don't wish to ignore the sacred honor of teaching one's own child how to work in a group, how to have a reasoned discussion with others, about subjects the parent is not an expert in, or how to delegate responsibility, all without being the sole focus of all attention, school is a great institution. If you wish to relegate them to a life of having problems dealing with others and (statistically) having even worse math and science skills than average, home school works great.

I still have a dog in this fight, even though I have no children, because I live in a society where I have to deal with others. Those I've dealt with that have a home schooling background have been far more difficult to work with than others, being both less competent and less congenial on top of having a misplaced sense of superiority, both moral and educational.

I am a fan of Alien Rez, not because of Joss Whedon's patchwork script, but because at least it had the familiar comedic elements of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and his usual returning ensemble cast (Ron Pearlamn, Dominique Pinon), as well as Sigorney Weaver being a badass mother.

Just my opinion. I love all of Jeunet's films; as wild and varied as the genres, his film style and character driven stories transcend the genre. City of Lost Child, Amelie, Delcatessen, Micmacs -- really excellent track record. Cool bit of science fiction in all of his films, even if just sort of a chaotic sense of fate and surrealism.

Ridley Scott is hit or miss -- but then again, Ridley Scott has far more a prolific film career so it's like arguing the planetary distances versus the intergalactic distances, we can't fully comprehend the multitude of influences involved in making a film and the secret to making it a good film, so what does it matter if it's 1 astronomical unit, 2 light years, or 26 billion light years, it's all beautiful art.

My kindness aside, his last 5 films: Robin Hood, Prometheus, The Counselor, Exodus, The Martian -- typical and BORING blockbustery movies. 1492 and everything after have been epic suck fests. Even Hannibal was a let down. They're all movies you're sort of excited about, if it weren't for the fact that he drags them out and adds little element of noticeable flair. Like Spielberg, hidden in realism. I want the stylistic elements of Alien and Blade Runner and Legend that PULLED YOU OUT of the movie experience to say loudly: This is art.

The soundtracks especially -- Ridley Scott replaced the original scoring of his movie Legend, which was a dazzling score by Tangerine Dream -- he replaced it with Jerry Goldsmith in rerelease... which sort of makes it all come full circle when you listen to the awful, typically EPIC score of Prometheus, minus all the atmosphere that the original soundtrack provided.
