What Really Killed The Dinosaurs?

Know Your Enemy (Part 2 - Lucifer)

shinyblurry says...

You're right, I didn't state that very well.

There isn't anyone good. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Without Jesus, we are all hellbound. But, the good news is that God made a provision for us.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, to pay the price that we ourselves could not pay. We are saved by faith in Him, that He rose from the dead. Thereby, we are saved by the grace of God, not because of something we did.

Now, your example is not valid. You cannot manipulate the grace of God. Your life isn't guaranteed, and the only reason you're drawing breath right now is because of God. If you think you can go out and commit a bunch of crime and then ask God for forgiveness later, knowing full well what you're doing, you're sadly mistaken.

btw, at least your idol Hitchens is intellectually honest enough to admit the real reason why he won't come to God for forgiveness..

Sorry but you fail hard. Entrance into Heaven is based on two things. 1. Accept Jesus as your lord and saviour. 2. Ask forgivness for your sins. Unless not doing these things counts as evil, being evil doesn't get you sent to hell. Under your "moral" system I could go out, kill a whole bunch of people, ask Jesus for forgivness and walk straight through the pearly gates.
Your Religion is a poorly constructed tissue of lies transparently constructed for controlling the masses and being a self righteous dick to people who don't agree with you. Like Hitchens, I too am glad there isn't a shred of evidence that this is true.
>> ^shinyblurry:
Satan doesn't force people to do evil, nor do people get confused about what is right and wrong. Everyone has a god given conscience which tells them right from wrong. God allows people to use their free will choice, and He allows them to reap the consequences of their actions. He gives them every chance to repent and gives them fair warning of the consequences if they don't. Everyone has a real chance to prove themselves in this world, and if they prove themselves to be evil, then that is what they are. God isn't looking to send people to hell, but if they prefer doing evil then they deserve to go there.
This isn't about what you consider fair, lets just lay that joke to rest. This is about your desire for personal autonomy and your rejection of Gods authority. It's your desire to sin without consequence. Like every other unrepentent sinner, you are a hypocrite who shakes his fist at God because he knows full well that he is guilty and doesn't want to be judged for it. You refuse to come to God for forgiveness because you prefer your sins.
John 3:19
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Have you ever heard such a complete lack of response to a joke?
I think it was because it wasn't accurate -- the big JC isn't responsible for sexism.
What is interesting is that Maher fixed it later by saying well, actually, it was Jesus's dad -- and that got a response.

Jesus wasn't a sexist?
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. (1 Tim 2:11-12)
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. ( Eph. 5:22-24)
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. ( 1 Cor. 14:34-35)

I'm not a Biblical scholar, as I said above. I know the Jesus from six years old Sunday School and what I have read in the liberal papers.

Jesus said all these things? Or did others say this about him? I honestly don't know.

When you know someone is wrong- it never works to point out where the other party is broken. (did I mention I've been married for a while). All you can do is listen, respond and try to plant the seeds of ideas that people might take up as their own.
Of course the other side is, that this openness allows them to plant seeds in you. So far though- I am not willing to reject evolution and accept J.C. as my personal saviour.>> ^ReverendTed:
It frustrates me to no end that the "Us vs Them" mentality is at once an incredibly destructive mindset that breeds needless strife and animosity, while at the same time being an incredibly effective means of getting shit done.
Everyone is a person. Generalizations are effective ways of dealing with policy, dealing with groups, setting things up that work "on average", but every person is an individual. I try to give the individual the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes it comes back to bite me, but more often it fosters productive and meaningful relationships.
I say this because I see it on both sides of this discussion.

This preacher is going to burn in hell !

Asmo says...

I think there is one important thing that the "vs" argument is missing here.

His message works equally well for people who believe and people who don't.

Be a better human being. If you happen to believe, then this will help you be a better *insert religion here*. If you're an aetheist, this will just help you be a better human being.

Where's the downside? A good example of this would be Fred Hollows (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Hollows), an aetheist doctor who dedicated his life to giving sight back to the people of the 2nd and 3rd world who would never normally have the chance. Being a better person doesn't mean you have to be religious, just better.

I usually disagree with religious types because of the dogma they cling to. I admire the tenets of Christ but his followers bring far too much baggage for me (and they tend to forget what their lord and saviour actually did in the story of his life). I admire this guy for his humanity. What he chooses to believe is up to him.

"Indians are the new Jews"

kymbos says...

Title for this should read "Frustratingly compared almost-debate about racism towards Indians".

I'm fascinated by the topic, however. As an Australian living in Melbourne, I know this city to be the most inviting and open capital in Australia. Why there has been this violence towards Indians recently is beyond me, as there is very little racial tension overall here.

The only thing I have against Indians is that they don't like Test Cricket enough. They could be the saviours of test cricket, but instead undermine it with 20/20 silliness for children with small attention spans. Oh the humanity!

Choggie rhymes with... (User Poll by xxovercastxx)

Some from Edward Gorey-

To his club-footed child said Lord Stipple,
As he poured his post-prandial tipple:
"Your mother's behaviour
Gave pain to Our Saviour
And that's why He made you a cripple."

An incautious woman called Venn
Was seen with the wrong sort of men;
She vanished one day
But the folloing May
Her legs were retrieved from a fen.

and this one should evoke all manner of visceral response in some, my personal favorite:

A headstrong young lady of Ealing
Threw her two-year-old child at the ceiling;
When quizzed why she did
She replied: "To get rid
Of a strange overpowering feeling."
