Pissed-off Cat attacks and terrorizes Pacifist Rottweiler
>> ^Lolthien:
I don't think the dog is afraid of the cat so much as all the random people who come up legs swinging kicking at the cat. Trust me, that dog is not afraid of that cat. The dog is afraid of the over-reacting people.
Maybe it's more of a conditioning thing. The rott grew up with cats as a pup that'd pick on him and beat the crap out of him. Being a dumb dog he doesn't realize he's about 8 times their size.
Shouldn't It Be The Other Way Round?
I've heard of the lion laying down with the lamb, but never the sheep terrorizing the rottweiler...

I frolic with a litter of kittens.
I miss your Rotty avatar.. the Rottweiler one. That's the one I see in my head when I hear your imaginary voice.
I never had a Rottweiler avatar. I grew up on videosift with my mouse on a frog avatar

Quantum computers: Potentially smarter than the human brain
Doing "this" and "that" at the same time is just affecting the speed of computations and higher level decisions. It does not affect the way decisions are being made. As I understand it, all this new physics talks about infinite possibilities occuring simultaneously. That's not what software is designed to do. It doesn't solve all permutations of events it's concerned with, it (by design) culls out the invalid possibilities and deals with those that are possible. So, there may be speed advances here but nothing more. But, then again, what do I know, I'm just a Rottweiler.
Man dies; his dogs stand guard for *3 weeks* till he's found
As I was watching this, my two rottweilers came in the room to visit. Heavey breathing, kisses and wagging stubs. Incredibly loyal and affectionate. There really is a special bond between dogs and man. It takes a lot of work and love to raise a dog, but the rewards are worth it and very noticable. My avatar is one of my dogs which I got from a shelter. He's an amazing dog worth all the attention he gets.
Please advise others to get their pets from shelters and not support the "puppy farms", etc.
Pit Bull Myths
HorsSujet, not exactly. Dobermans and German Shepards went through a similar time as well, back in the 60's German Shepards couldn't keep up with their popularity so were inbred by unethical breeders and over the years they developed some problems and developed a bad reputation for a time. Years later it was the Doberman, if a movie wanted to show a "scary" dog it was that.
Today it seems to be more the Rottweiler and pit bull type, it's just the fashion of the moment. It's a problem of two things the way I see it, bad breeding and bad press ruining an otherwise decent breed. Idiots who want a "tough" dog gravitate toward this one these days and are ruining this breed instead of another, odds are eventually the fashions will change and they'll go ruin yet another as we try to recover this one like we did the dobie and shepard.
My wife points out to me that dogs she's seen abused tend to go one of two ways. They either turn into defensive biters or nervous pissers. If you beat a Sheltie you'll probably get a scared dog that pees when it sees you, beat a Shepard, Doberman, Rottweiler or pit bull and things might not work out as well. When due to abuse or poor breeding a problem does happen a "pit bull" attack is big news we'll hear about, one from most other breeds more likely a back page story if one at all. It's just the current fashion.
It isn't that they can't be a problem, just that things aren't always what they seem. It's a decent breed that's had a run of bad luck, and not of their own fault.
