Meet the future piano
well, in the music technology market with the big playeyers it is often like this:

when inventing something new: build something huge, a flagship product
build many smaller products based on flagship tech, and sell a gazillion of those
roland is doing alot of exciting things these days with physical modeling tecnology, stepping away from traditional sampling. maybe a hint of that was when their newest fantom workstations didnt come with those sampling expansion boards, but instead had slots of new physical modeling chips.
so i am predicting that we will see lots of other products based on this piano very soon. maybe with one or two chips instead of 4 etc.
and this reminds me of what i had planned my next sift would be about
Blagojevich Announces Senate Appointment
What makes this particularly interesting:
1. Burris appears to be a good candidate in his own right
2. Based on what we know now, there's no evidence of quid pro quo, though the scrutiny is only just starting
3. The Democratic Senate leadership has already said they will not seat Burris
Talk about tossing a live political hand grenade into this mess.
Update: Obama's issued a statement condemning the appointment as well.

in the 4th clip, the Roland, he's mimicking actual song beats.
the one that starts at 1:30 is Phil Collins' In The Air Tonight.

i've got a roland grrove box that has a broken board, pretty much does the same thing.
Keyboard Drumming done right
Keyboard is a Roland FP-3. Same as mine! so...upvote! And, looks like I better go home and practice...
BTW, it provides a different drum sound on each of its 88 keys, so you really do have drums on all octaves if you want to use them.

Y AY W A B B I T ! (woland gold)..... (Sift Talk Post)
How does one pronounce Woland? I've been thinking Roland with a W instead of the R, but it just occurred to me that it could be like Holland.
No matter, welcome to the gold club!
Independence Day-1st Aerial Battle
Dear Lord, what a piece of shit this was.
Which pretty much goes for anything Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerichs come up with.

"I Got Rhythm" - solo version by John Pizzarelli
Don't have to have perfect pitch to do that....Idetic memory of ones' instrument...you play so much you remember what its going to sound like beforehand. Lots of performers do this.... one was Slam Stewart, bassist who hummed the notes as he bowed.
Mose Allison, Charles Mingus,Rashaan Roland Kirk, Keith Jarrett, how bout' Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton, with their talky-thingy-dealies.....
Charlie Parker, it has been said, the way he hit the woodshed, was by learning "I Got Ryhthm" in every key, and becomming proficient in them, using that song.....once he got that down, well....he also used a Rico #5 reed, which if anyone has ever blown woodwinds, is next to impossible to get a squeak out of, unless yer embrochures' like a foundry press.
Pizzarelli has such a great voice, reminds of Chet Baker....
Tiny Radish Seeds Growing Up and Down (timelapse)
"Two 90 watt compact floresecent lights where used for both the camera shooting light and the grow lights. The lights were set on a timer for 18 hours on and 6 off (for the health of the plants). The jump in the video is the 6 hour gap in the darkness."
Music: Roland White - Gaieté Acadienne.
A Young Glen Gould plays Bach
Man so coool! Love the murmur with every note, Slam Stewart, Mose Allison, Rashaan Roland Kirk, a few more who's similar idiosyncratic interpretacious-improvisations this clip connects....
thanks for the synaptic trip-
