Now I know you're a Yankee. Bourbon isn't typically smokey. What bourbon are you drinking? It's typically made from mash and is sweeter.

Really? I kid about Canadian whiskey - Crown Royal, Pendleton, and Tangle Ridge are all great tasting, and even regular old Canadian Club and VO are pleasing to my palate. I know there are a few people out there who dismiss Canadian whiskey because they claim it's too 'light' in flavor, and for the cheap shit that's true. But a glass of good Canadian hooch, especially the higher end stuff like Gibson's and Wiser's, can stand toe to toe with whiskey made anywhere else on Earth, IMHO.

Scotch and bourbon both taste too smoky to me, but they'll do if there's nothing else around.

Lol, I've only had bourbon once and it didn't really impress me. I still haven't had any Canadian whiskey. Weird, eh?

Ahhh, I love the smokiness of scotch, but there are some scotches that have more sherry-like flavours than the peaty flavours. Aberlour's Abunudh is a nice one that only has a hint of peat. If you can get your hands on a MaCallan that's a really nice whiskey with no smoke at all.

Anyways, I'll see if I can taste some of that Gibson's or Wiser's soon. We can compare notes

World's Best Hurdler in the World!

dannym3141 says...

This is one of the funniest things i've seen in ages.. When he gets to the third hurdle and thinks "i'm running through", he puffs out his chest as a barrier and tilts his head back, i absolutely lose my shit. Then he starts fucking winning until he gets a hurdle wrapped around his neck and falls, then switches lanes and tries to jump the FINAL hurdle.

And then, if that's not enough humiliation, in the last half a second of the video, he fucking trips over the ridge.

I can't stop laughing.

Meh, don't get it.
People are pissed at the TSA. Why this links back to Obama and why this needed 30 seconds of photographs of Obama during his campaign, followed by another 30 seconds of him and whoever the woman is, I don't really understand.

Janet Napolitano (featured in the video) is the United Secretary of Homeland Security in the administration of President Barack Obama. These new advances in "security procedures" are a direct result of her leadership, and being that she's part of the Obama Administration it links back to him just as Tom Ridge linked back to Bush.

okay, why did we need half a minute worth of his campaign footage, then another 30 of what's her face? I agree what the tsa is doing seems extreme, but pinning this on Obama seems silly, when as already pointed out, Mccain would have ended up with the exact same thing. they didn't personally clear this, what's her face did.

Remember this video when some TSA guy is fondling your junk

Sadly this is the only soap I've ever watched, and I have kind of followed B&B from the beginning. I truly needed this spectacular explanation, though it might have left out a boyfriend (or two).

I am looking forward to seeing the WHOLE story, not just Ridge and Brooke and Taylor. There are so many more Logans and Forresters to deal with!

Ya, the violence and fervor of it all scares me by and large. Usually, I just try not to think about political stuff as of late, sweep it under the carpet so to speak. But, whenever I visit the folks, I always end up neck deep in political debates. He is extremely "republican", so it usually subsits of me trying to talk him down from a watch tower with a rifle aimed at liberals. As a result, much like Blank was talking about, in his eyes I seem far to pro-democrat for his liking. Statements like "you sound like a democrat" can be frequent and rather annoying. Not that I don't like being associated with dems, I am anti-war and all that crap, but I just hate that there seems to be this need for people to put these very ridged categories on people so they can decide if they are on their side or not...an elimination of critical thinking.

I worry, though, about this decay of conversation and, at least as the media portrays it, escalating violence. I ponder, like blanky was mostly, if the decay is reaching a precipice to which only an escalation of violence is in store. So, if the "people" don't step up and fulfill a very clutch role, politicians have no reason to. All we can do is to do our part I guess. I am bad when talking to people to talk "at" them instead of "to" them, so for any that end up reading this and fallen victim, I apologize.

Solar Highways!!!

Porksandwich says...

If you look at most freeways, they gradually slope across the surface for water drainage. So no they are not perfectly flat, but the goal for people preparing subgrades is to make the surface as even as possible while maintaining the desired grade. If the surface is really even, that means there will be the minimum amount of overage on materials when it comes to asphalt. If they prepare it properly, the machine can be set at 2-3-4 inches thick and lay all day at that depth, and when they move over to the next lane, they can lay the same thickness and maintain the grade without having to adjust. That's the goal, it meets the specs of the job and doesn't cost them in overages on material....and if they are majorly over...someone screwed up.

Now....I'm pointing out flaws in this roadway because if they were to use his design and it failed miserably there would be less chance of them ever doing it again. So what's the fault in putting it in applications where it would see more extreme conditions in a lower traffic zone to get a proof of concept? Or hell even put it on a bike path or sidewalk, if it holds up superbly for a few years......move onto a military base to see how well it holds up to extreme abuse of their heavy machinery.

Just slapping it down on a highway because that would be cool is a sure fire way to kill this prospect dead in it's tracks for a long time to come. Prove it lasts, prove it provides savings, and prove it's as safe as or better than current materials under all possible road conditions. Highways may be the goal, but it isn't the first step on an unproven concept.

Personally I think if they did this on bike paths, they'd have more luck pushing it forward..because bike paths are all about the green initiative...so if they can also kick some energy savings back to the city while testing their product. No one loses there if the materials work, and if they don't.....at least it's just a bike path that needs re-surfaced.

Most of you keep talking about how the road needs to be perfectly flat. Well, they don't. Otherwise the concrete pads of the interstates would need to be perfectly flat. These are 3x3 squares. Every video game character you play is made up of squares and triangles. A spiked ridge between the LED/P-V "pucks" would take care of any water caused splipping.
Just because you can find fault with the guy's "ultimate" roadway, a ton of the ideas could be implemented without full conversion.
How about using those LED/P-V pucks on highways to merely to show where the lanes are at night? They could "pave" the centre and shoulder areas to provide power for streetlights and not affect the traffic surface.

You could also have dynamic road deployment and redeployment. Need to rewire your entire highways system for an evacuation? No problem, reconfigure all signage and postings to make all available roads outgoing only, now, short of the likely bottlenecks, you have doubled your outbound traffic ability. Really, the sky is the limit. Any level of smartness to the roads brings with in untold innovation. The physical problems seem very manageable and knowable, but the benefits are easily hidden and largely unrealized. The potential is mind blowing though. Solar powered streets and buildings just makes to much since not to try and make work. So much free energy in these already used places, we just need the means to effectively harvest it, and this seems like a great idea, in any final form it takes. It is worth mentioning that glass is non-crystalline. Meaning it can flex and bend over time. Look at any old house and the windows are thicker on the bottom then the top. So it can deal with gradual gradient changes, how well is a matter of engineering.

hmm, I didn't initially notice the craters behind them... Man can you imagine the view though? It would be incredible to see that from so close
