Wow, millimeters from being a snuff film.

This is why backboards are angled with the top closer to the shooter in proper ranges, ricochets are deflected towards the ground, not back at the shooter, and not randomly up and away.

Could have been a ricochet...
But judging by the crack sound you can hear just before the GoPro explodes it was directed fire. So, yeah possibly shock?

I Meant To Do That-Sensitive 44 Magnum Trigger

All the indoor ranges I've been to (admittedly not many) are designed so even shots waaaay off target like this one won't ricochet. Usually there are at least a few holes in the ricochet-proofing. Loaded firearms should always be pointed downrange, so even though this guy f-ed up badly, at least he had that part right and the actual hazard here was minimal.

Nah, he meant it as a joke. Everything's fun and games until someone loses a decent portion of their skull from just the ricochet.

Elon Musk: Making Humans a Multiplanetary Species

BicycleRepairMan says...

My concern is this : Imagine a global extinction event , lets say a repeat of the event that killed off the dinosaurs : a massive asteroid direct hit , instantly killing everything on roughly the same continent or general planetside , such an impact would punch a hole in the very tectonic plate it lands on and cause massive waves not just in water , but in the ground itself , waves of rock and earth surface taveling around the globe meeting on the far side of the impact and ricocheting back again . We are talking GLOBAL earthquakes off the scales, for YEARS after the impact as the tectonic plates are slowliy settling in, all this is followed by a thick cloud of ash from the impact, refueled by frequent vulcanic eruptions , this will block out most sunlight , so after the initial toasting , the few lucky survives of this pandemonium can look forward to hundreds of years of atomic winter. Sounds pretty fuckin bad.

But guess what : thats still better conditions for life than Mars. And Mars is goddamn paradise compared to the other planets around us. Anything outside our immediate neighbourhood ? Forget it , they are ATLEAST thousands of years travel away, making moving anything of note there unfeasable. We ARE a one planet species. Get used to it , take good care of this one , its all we got.

11 Year Old Shoots Intruder

Mordhaus says...

There are definitely a lot of legal issues, the problem is the location. I can't be reasonably certain that a jury would convict the parents and the kid is a juvi at worst, again assuming you can get a judge in that area to convict.

I would suspect the worst damage that could be done would be for the thief to sue them in civil court for pain and suffering. That is something that might actually push through the system, given the lower standard needed for victory.

But yeah, the first things that went through my head when I watched this were:

A. What kind of family leaves a loaded 9mm laying around with an 11 year old in the house?
B. Shooting at a fleeing criminal is definitely a huge no-no in any state.
C. Where the hell did the other 11 rounds go? I mean, full metal jacket rounds fucking BOUNCE when they hit anything remotely hard. I've shot them before at an outdoor range and watched them hit the backing wrong and veer wide of the berm, I cringe at thinking where they were ricocheting with Billy the Kid popping them off like caps.

What?!? The kid didn't start shooting until the robber was outside the home and running away...and he's NOT being charged with attempted murder? WTF?!?
You can't shoot someone who's fleeing in the back. Period. Even in Florida. By the time the kid started firing wildly into his neighborhood, missing with 11 the first shots, he had absolutely no legal right to be shooting at all. This wasn't a stand your ground or threatening intruder situation when he started shooting.
This kid needs to be prosecuted, as does his family for leaving loaded firearms where children can get them.
I agree with @Januari , this entire story is disgusting.
