Colbert as Richard Branson, vacuuming with a nude model

bareboards2 says...

Mr Colbert has made comments over the years about "rules" he has with his wife. They were mentioned when Jane Fonda sat on his lap and kissed him on the lips -- that broke the rules, a clearly uncomfortable Mr Colbert mentioned at the time.

I can't even BEGIN to imagine how this fits within the "rules"!!!!!

I would guess that Stephen's wife was keeping a pretty close eye on the proceedings...

Branson unveils most expensive toy ever

Dear me westy, It was actually painful to read your comments. Not only were they simplistic, childish jibberish spouted by, what appears to be, someone with a huge chip on his shoulder, but they were also physically painful to read. I can only assume that English is not your first language.eg. "which branson didnot his parents baild him out and handed him a huge opertunity". Yep, the first thing they gave him was a decent education. Oh, and regarding luck? Ofcourse luck plays a part in everything, but in business you need far,far more than luck. You need the tools for the job, Richard Branson has them in abundance. And no, i'not stupid for admiring him. Please note, i said "admiring" not, as you so eloquently put it; "fundimentaly looking up to or idolising sumone like branson is also stupid , as he could be a right selfish cunt for all i know." And NO, your opinoin(sic) of him is NOT "natural". Your opinion appears to be based on ignorance, stupidity and jealousy.

There will be hundreds if not thousands of people who are as deserving if not as ruthless as Richard branson who will not have become rich sue to multiple factors outside of there control. In fact if you look at super ritch people ( bill gates, Steve jobs, google founders ,) Most of them are super ritch not because they are particualy good auntrapanours but because they were lucky on one thing that gave them a substantial boost finacaily , granted they cnt be dence and they need to have a reasonable idea of things and some vision , but there are litraly hundreds of thousands of people like that , its just not all of them are in the right place at the right time , sure by doing things a certain way you can increase your ods but for the people that do become super ritch its not a skill bassed thing.

so I wouldn't look at him and just because he is rich think oh he is a genouse in ritchards case his parents and there suport will have given him a fundamental boost that manny people with the same ablity would not have had.

also Wealth is not the best gauge of a person , In lots of cases to make large amounts of money you have to forget ethics and be a cunt , pissing on and exploiting many people.

I don't know him as a person , im just saying that Making "Alot" of mony is is chance based. I think if your not stupid , through hard work and skill could earn 150K year after 15 years of trying im specificly talking about the super rich that have 10 milloin +

I admire Richard Branson so much. His vision, his tenacity, his dedication and, above all, his belief that if you WANT the dream, go for it. Simplistic?, maybe, but please don't get into the hows a whys of how he achieved his wealth and success. Suffice it to say that NO successful businessman ever "made it" without some degree of ruthlessness. I am just grateful we have at least one Englishman left who represents what, as a nation, we once embodied. Sadly, i am sure there will be derisory comments, but these could never detract from his achievements. (NO, i don't work for him...LOL)

Breakthrough in storing Solar Energy

spoco2 says...

Ahh, this is brilliant, and what I've been saying for some time. We NEED to get as many houses as possible solared right up.

Batteries have indeed been the issue up until now, along with efficiency and cost of the solar panels, but we NEED to do this.

I saw a news clip about a woman who was part of the EV-1 electric car trials in California, except that she has normal cars (I think she has two) converted to be electric. As such, she was allowed to keep hers after the trial (as she could still get spare parts and maintain them). She has solar panels on the roof of her house, she charges her car (or two if I'm right) each night, and runs the whole house off the solar... and her energy bill each month is, like, a couple of dollars.

So, using tech from a number of years ago she can almost entirely run her house AND charge electric cars from solar.

Just imagine if we were all doing that! Almost no power plants required, all cars could be electric, the power industry as we know it can largely go away, instead replaced with an industry creating, distributing, installing and maintaining solar systems.

We could start it NOW.

But we don't because big business is far too afraid of change and their current money streams.

I wish a Richard Branson or similarly cashed up person would sink some money into this for the betterment of society.

I appreciate him doing so into space travel, but would love to see it being done for energy creation.

Takeshi Kitano Teaches!

rickegee says...

Only good ones. I wouldn't mind watching an entire episode of WKRP right now.

I somewhat understand why the TV shows ban was instituted in the beginning. At the same time, any TV show network or production house that is likely to have content sifted here also has the means to remove their content quickly from video hosting sites. It is really an issue that will sort itself out without involvement by the admins. If admins are looking to cozy themselves up with Conde Nast or Richard Branson, though, then I can see where it would create some difficulties.

But when you discard Beat Takeshi, you have discarded me.
