Reminds me of my childhood, running in the basement and hunkering down with my brothers every time there was a tornado warning. Never had one hit. Mom always gave us a mason jar half filled with water and a drop of dishwashing soap so we could make our own "tornadoes". In retrospect the glass jar probably should have been plastic.

I've never really drank the Romero Coolaid. Romero needs to be surrounded by a highly critical team who will prevent him from putting every stupid idea he has into a game, regardless of whether or not it works well. His post-id career really illustrates this point.

Carmack, as far as I can remember, has never been a designer on any of their games.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting, and a good read. I am actually familiar with some of Félix Vallotton's work, and hadn't made the connection. In retrospect it seems almost obvious.

Less obvious again was the fact that he had to make the whole room, then turn out the lights so you couldn't see it! It makes perfect sense, but it wasn't obvious.

Skepticism is a virtue, to me. Ignorance is not.

Things are bad with the corporations quickly taking over in our society. At some point in our lives most of us will work for a large corporation as there will be very few small businesses left. And these corporations use the apparatus of government to create legislation and regulations that help them grow, increase profits, but most importantly they use it to stifle competition. And a lot of these corporations are profiting from the war, particularly the oil companies. Gas prices just rose here in LA to over $4 a gallon. And what gets me is how surprised people act when they see the new price hikes. I can't wait to see how they'll react when it goes over $5/gallon.

And we all think voting once every two or four years will fix all the ills of society and somehow magically contain the corporations and spendthrift politicians and bureaucrats. It's a bit of a joke when you think about how powerless we really are. But, before things turn for the bleak, I can say I believe what Joseph Campbell once said (and I paraphrase) that the world is as good today as its ever been and as bad as its ever been. In other words, it will always be getting worse and better, and we each participate in it.

So, yes, we should question everything the government does, and if we don't give in to cynicism we should participate in changing it as well.

I got my mother a Zune for xmas and the other day had to phonecall her through it.

In retrospect, the Zune was a terrible idea.

His next video will probably be a "making of the Nightmare Before Xmas Review" clip and then after that he'll release another retrospective of his own filmmaking career. Hardly ever seen a guy get more mileage out of shit he'd probably be better off not showing to people. I do love when he actuall discusses games or does something great like the Ninja Gaiden review.

This was fucking hilarious up until the "change" bullshit. But when this was made, I guess people had some hope. What a cruel bitch Old Lady Retrospect can be, huh?

In retrospect, Goerge Bush Sr. was a much better president than people give him credit for. That said Clinton was the perfect president to follow him. I think it was a combination of their economic policy that lead to the boom of the last 20 years. People forget Bush had to clean up a lot of the mess that Reagan left behind, especially in his second term.
