Need More Proof That The Music Industry Is Fake? Here You Go

Asmo says...

When you raise people up to be gods, they must become infallible. Hence autotune. Look at retouching for big stars in bluray or 4k rez to ensure every minute imperfection is covered up... The audience demands infallibility. You do a full dance routine, you're likely to be huffing and puffing by the end of it. I doubt even the fittest of "pop stars" could manage that. It's understandable that even long term stars who have real talent have gotten lazy.

Then there are just manufactured twats who can't sing worth shit but look the part. Nothing new there, can't believe people fall for it...

Live music is where it's at, give me a cover band belting out Wildflower by the Cult in a pub any day, or the recording of Faith No More at Brixton. They are real performances, they have stuff ups (Patton bungling one of the last verses of War Pigs for example) and that doesn't matter a lick because you're getting The Real Thing (/grin).

Teller Speaks! - Penn & Teller Ice Bucket Challenge

lucky760 says...

I saw them some years ago and they stood at the exit for autographs, etc. on the way out, and I was surprised when Teller actually spoke to me.

Of course I knew he could speak, but I thought he was strict about never uttering a word in front of the general public or his audience.

I love that they called out Piff the Magic Dragon. I only know that guy from "Fool Us," but he was a real talent. I guess he's actually become something of a well-known comedy magician of sorts.

P.S. Boy, that was a big bucket!

RoboCop - Reboot Trailer

shagen454 says...

Feel the same way.

Why remake a classic that is even strangely (awesomely) apart of the Criterion Collection?

... they should just try to write original scripts... I know... it's really time consuming to do, requires real talent and they might not be guaranteed to make 300 million dollars at the box office if they did!

Beatbox Brilliance: Tom Thum at TEDxSydney

Trancecoach says...

I'd be curious what some of the jazz legends, like Davis, Monk, Coltrane, Parker.. would think of this guy. Would they think he's without a real talent? Or would they think he's got soul?

Amiina - Sicsak

chingalera says...

All you need to make music like this is some found instruments, a bit of timing, and maybe a screaming Vitamin D deficiency like these snow-dwellers!!
I mean c'mon man....I dig the vibe, would like PERFORMING this stuff with a roomfull of folks on some good drugs...but-Take's no real talent to make tuneful noise people....This is by no means outstanding-Justa buncha pasty white folks spontaneously composing an ever-increasingly UN-listenable, EMO DIRGE!!

Human foolishness at its mediocre, BIG money-BIG fish

ponceleon says...

I don't know if the math is right, but some article on it was saying that it would be cut up into sushi that would go for $50 a piece. It makes me think of Genki Ya, my fav sushi place in Boston. Little hole in the wall in Brookline with no pretension and so silly Caucasian waitresses in kimonos and other nonsense I see in other sushi places that cost far more. The guys behind the sushi bar are skilled and intense. I remember watching one slowly slice a cucumber in a spiral in order to make a long millimeter thin strip which they use in an appetizer roll with smoked salmon and a spicy sauce, topped off with vinegar. The way the man slowly ran the knife along the rolling cucumber showed patience and years of practice honed to real talent.

I don't doubt that this fish will go to some amazing meals. I don't doubt that it will taste amazing. I just doubt it will take as amazing as the full meal I can get at Genki Ya for $50 (for 2 people).

Marco Simoncelli Obituary. 1987 - 2011

robbersdog49 says...

I've only been into motogp since the last part of last season. It's an awesome thing to watch for the close racing and all the overtakes and tactics and excitement. Simoncelli was a new gp rider last year and I've watched him change and develop and really start to show his real talent. Despite being far too big for the bikes he had a knack of going fast in a really exciting way. I didn't know him at all, but I did like him as a rider and he was always interesting to watch.

It's often said that people enjoy watching racing for the crashes. That if motor racing is made too safe it sanitises and ruins it. That if there is no risk there is no excitement. Bollox. I watch F1 and MotoGP to see the skill of the riders and drivers. To see the race unfold. To see how they better their rivals on the track. Of course crashes are going to happen, particularly on the bikes. If they aren't crashing it's questionable if they're pushing hard enough. Simoncelli certainly knew about crashing as he was pushing 110% from the start before his skill level had risen to meet his ego. As his time in MotoGP has gone on he's got better and better. He was going to win races and going to win a championship. I'm genuinely saddened by what's happened. 24 is no age to go.

My heart goes out to Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. They must be going through hell right now.

Woz remembers Steve Jobs.

Jinx says...

Couldn't fucking care less about Steve. Why does it seem like the whole world is mourning a CEO who's real talent was selling an Apple Logo, marketing computers as a style symbol...and making people pay for it.

The only part of this video worth watching imo is the last 10 seconds. His death should be mourned in private sincerity by those close to him, not as a CEO, but as a friend/dad/husband. The rest of the world can fuck off.

In other news the Nobel Peace prize winner in medicine died before he could receive his award. Was also pancreatic Cancer. You know. Just some perspective.

Message from Anonymous to the 99% Occupying Wall Street

Stormsinger says...

I'm in more or less in the same boat, @BoneRemake. I get very mixed vibes about Anonymous...the arrogance of some of their diatribe is a bit hard to take, and I've seen no real evidence of any real influence. OTOH, I rather like some of the points they make.

I still think most of them are little more than 4chan script kiddies...no ethics and no real talent except running their mouths. But I guess I could be wrong. Just have to wait and see.

I'm sorry to say, but it's become quite clear over the years who had the real talent in Nirvana.

What a bizarre comment Bit hard to say "over the years", considering Kurt died and we can't know what he'd be like.

LOL true. I'll say "in my opinion" then. I was never a big fan of Kurt's stuff.
