How To Get Out Of Quicksand

toferyu says...

She adds at the end that if the quicksand has more water it get's very tough to get out since you don't have any surface to push on.
>> ^ghark:

That was really interesting, I've heard the rumors that it was nearly impossible to get out of quicksand without some intervention, like a stick, or something to grab hold of - but that doesn't look too bad.

Japan: Ground Swaying and Liquifying

Ground still moving in Japan

kceaton1 says...

It's ground water forced up and basically related to sand "volcanoes". This is formed due to liquefaction (Salt Lake City will get the same thing when our earthquake comes. This happens all the time in earthquakes if the land is an ancient seabed, has ground water near the surface, or any other situation that is similair like this reclaimed land.

Don't worry about it too much unless it's a huge one (which would be rare). The big problem is that since it acts like quicksand all the buildings (or anything weighing the right amount) will sink into the ground.

Family arguments have just gotten sinister (Wtf Talk Post)

blankfist says...

Belief systems are strong things, and they tend to make people argumentative when they think it's being challenged. To attack it head on will only beget more arguments and most likely strengthen their opinions further. Remember, struggling in quicksand makes you sink faster!

I say refuse to engage in these conversations. If they bring them up, then cut them off and say you're not interested in whatever they have to say if it has to do with politics. Tell them their politics are their business, and yours is yours, and you won't judge them if they don't judge you. Fair is fair. They should respect that. Then you can try to just build up those familial friendships again. And in the end that's what's important here, right?

Shinedown - Sound of Madness

Stormsinger says...

Yeah, I get it,
You're an outcast.
Always under attack.
Always coming in last,
Bringing up the past.
No one owes you anything.
I think you need a shotgun blast,
A kick in the ass,
So paranoid. . .
Watch your back!!

Oh my, here we go...

Another lose cannon gone bi-polar
Slipped down, couldn't get much lower.
Quicksand's got no sense of humor.
I'm still laughing like hell.
You think that by crying to me
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe,
You've been infected by a social disease.
Well, then take your medicine.

[Chorus:]
I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself?

I'm so sick of this tombstone mentality,
If there's an afterlife,
Then it'll set you free.
But I'm not gonna part the seas
You're a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You think that crying to me,
Looking so sorry that I'm gonna believe,
You've been infected by a social disease.
Well, then take your medicine.

[Chorus]

I created the Sound of Madness.
Wrote the book on pain.
Somehow I'm still here,
To explain,
That the darkest hour never comes in the night.
You can sleep with a gun.
When you gonna wake up...
When you gonna wake up and fight...

[Chorus]

When you gonna wake up and fight... for yourself? [x3]

Michael Steele:"VA Manual Encourages Vets To Commit Suicide"

Nithern says...

Michael Steele showing the world he isnt educated? Again? He's worst then Lassie having to pull Billie out of quicksand for the 84th time in a row.

I have to disagree with Mr. W. Pennypacker above. Mr. Steele has yet to voice things that sound like someone who is educated, intelligent, or wise. In fact, I am led to believe his only qualification to being in the role he is in now, is...he's black. Which is a rather sad requirement for the position. There's plenty of very educated, intelligent and wise men that are black in our country.....like Mr. Obama.

Maybe Mr. Steele can point out the exact text in the VA manual that tells patients to commite suicide. Frankly this by itself is appalling. Mr. Steele seems to treat the concept of suicide as a petty arguement. I've known people that have committed suicide, AND, where in the military. There is no text in the VA manual that says this. To bad Mr. Steele isn't man enough to admit this lie for what it is, and ask for forgiviness from others.

"Obama Is An Arab"-Says McCain Volunteer In Letters

thinker247 says...

...I don't think the men who decided black people were 3/5ths of a person allowed them to vote until, oh, maybe the middle of the 19th century? And even that was a sham until nearly one hundred years later. And women were arrested for voting until 1920. I don't see the democracy there.

Ok, we'll call it sparring on the Titanic. Now all I need is to find Kate Winslet and I'll be satisfied.

I'm not a big historian, but it seems to me that I remember that the Founding Fathers (yes, they were all men) had a heated debate when they were deciding who could vote.
Anyone? Or did you have to be educated? Own property?
Guess what they decided?
Yep. Democracy, not meritocracy. Representative democracy, to be accurate.
And you can have capitalism without a voting booth.
So you enjoy these "debates"? Huh. It doesn't seem like a debate to me. The topic keeps changing. Sparring, maybe. Sparring on quicksand.
It does have its delights.
