GOP Lash Out at Liz Cheney for Not Supporting Trump's Lies

newtboy says...

You even fucked up the cut and paste of these prepared predebunked far right moron "questions". Learn to think for yourself, Bob. You clearly can't figure out to not trust consistent liars who feed you this nonsense...even after they admit they lied to you and called you stupid for believing them.

We know you don't want answers to these "questions", because you've had the answers for months since the first time you asked these bullshit, moronic, false premise accusations with question marks.

You're nothing but an anti American troll, Bobski. The only thing you're useful for is exposing the latest right wing nonsense for quick debunking. You offer no information beyond what the newest lie will be....often like this time it's last year's lies rehashed, hoping someone missed the debunking and can be tricked into believing your lies. Eat another crate of baby dicks.

Kicked Out of Class for Saying There are Two Genders

BSR says...

Bob, I have to disagree. There is no need to use that many question marks.

I think newt clearly said the title was dishonest. He also stated at the end, *lies for the misleading title

No personal attack there that I can see. Unless you are Paris Cloud.

Dishonest about what????????? I just presented an video of disagreement of thought. - I did not take any sides yet you say I'm dishonest.

The kid spoke up in opposition to what the teacher said that is not necessary disruptive. Kid got kicked out for having a different opinion and would not accept that of the teacher.

All in all that is not the issue. It is that is there only 2 sexes or more?

Regardless of what the teacher actually thinks on this matter the teacher is boxed in to accept the policy of his employer/ system. He can't speak against this policy for fear of loosing his job or getting in trouble.

The kid is free to think and express his thoughts.

Defying school policy, -- So its not right to defy school policy, or policy for that matter. Don't challenge? You don't want a world that does not challenge thought, do you?

Okay, well, It may have been a different video of theirs.

Here is the video that puts them in question.

The "Original" video was called "Kurzgesagt is LYING" but has since been changed. Edit: for the record, I'm not saying this video has merit, only that it exists. There seems to be a question mark on this whole video.

Sagemind said:

I'm pretty sure there is a video about how this video was filled with miss-information and substantiated information.
When the YouTube channel that pointed it out, tried to contact them on the sloppy job, they gave him the run-around until they finally posted a re-edited version saying they noticed themselves that they had accidentally made a few errors and updated their video.
And by accidentally, they meant, they didn't fact check anything at all.

The question mark is more of an accent than a punctuation mark in this case. Although it IS a statement, the voice raises in pitch toward the end making it sound like a question.

Why Should You Read James Joyce's "Ulysses"

ulysses1904 says...

He definitely put years into it. I first tried reading it cold, with no prep. I read the first 3 pages over and over and gave up, it made no sense. A few years later I read a book about it which was a huge help. Then I found an entire section at the Connecticut College library dedicated to it.

I'm still finding "hidden tracks" in it after reading it and reading about it for 25 years. Like how the first 3 chapters parallel the last 3 chapters. How Bloom's path at a certain point in the city resembles a question mark. The barmaid Sirens, the drunken lout Cyclops character, and all the other Odyssey parallels.

I visited the Martello tower from Chapter one when i went to Dublin, that was so cool to be there. I never did find Nelson's Pillar though. ;-)

I think this may be the book that Joyce said took him a lifetime to write so it would take a reader a lifetime to read (comprehend)

Update appreciated so I didn't have to look anything up.

How not to be Angry all the Time

Jinx says...

Yeah, I find it all a bit nihilistic. If your objective is to rid the world of any suffering then it seems to me the surefire solution is stop existing. I bounce off the whole Buddhist "desire = suffering" thing for a similar reason. But to be happy - Might that not involve a certain amount of suffering? Is anger necessarily entirely destructive? Is hope sometimes reasonable? Does being hopeful require an expectation? Question mark?

I dunno.

This is so depressing. In order to be happy you have to be jaded.

TYT - How to Rebuild the Democratic Party

MilkmanDan says...

I agree with his 5 points completely, but I am optimistic that it will be easier to swing back the other direction in 2018 (midterms) or 2020 than he thinks.

Trump got a lot of angry, disenchanted voters to swing his direction because a complete question mark sounded better to them than Clinton's known-quantity establishment. But if he doesn't follow through for them (which is essentially impossible in many cases for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is self-contradictory stances/promises that can't ALL be followed) much of that support will collapse fast.

IF the Democratic Party gets its act together semi-quickly and follows at least some of Cenk's ideas, they can ride the wave the other direction.

The Gun Debate: Too Much Emotion, Not Enough Data?

harlequinn says...

Is that a question or a statement (it's worded as a statement, but has a question mark at the end)?

Yes I already knew that. And...? It's no different than Australia in that particular respect. It's an aspect that I would fully expect Americans to rightfully not adopt.

Adding to above NZ allows semi-auto longarms and high capacity magazines for all firearms (basically what Australia has banned from owning), not all firearms need to be registered (unlike Australia), and they have longer licensing periods and yet they have a significantly lower firearms homicide rate and homicide rate overall. America using the NZ model as a template would be a better starting point. I wrote "template" in my previous post, perhaps "model" or "rough guide" would have been better. I don't mean copy it verbatim. I mean use it as a starting point as at least potentially workable.

Are you a citizen of NZ or Aus and are you a firearms owner in NZ or Aus?

ChaosEngine said:

You do know that in NZ you have to have a firearms licence? And that if you list self-defence as your reason for applying, you will be de used a licence?

Making The Sift more user friendly (Sift Talk Post)

Warmth- says...

Hi, I'm a long time lurker. I happened to see an interesting 'Videosift lounge' -link in the top of the page yesterday, clicked it, and found out that the site has a chat lounge, which is quite nice!

I wound up chatting with @eric3579, and found out that the chat had been enabled for everyone just a few months ago. We got to talking about how hard it can be for a first time user to find out more information about what VideoSift is, and how it actually works.

I had seen this thread a couple of weeks ago, when I first time tried to find out some extra info on the site. I skimmed @Zawash's great post through for some info (on what power points can be used for etc.) - I didn't find the link to the FAQ then, I found the FAQ-link just today.. as it never occured to me to look for the link at the very bottom of the page, but from the top menu navigation bar instead.

I sketched that above linked image as we chatted, and now I just noticed that @dotdude had suggested just that idea already above. The sketch's question mark and font color is not as cool as the real design is, but in anycase, I too think that something of that sort would be more noticeable/clear place for FAQ/Help for the new people?

Do you guys think that to make this happen, we could perhaps cut the task in to two? One for the mighty Admins, and one for the helpful, interested parties in this talk thread? Admins would create cool graphics and code the link for the help menu, and the layout views for a sectioned help text, and then another task for all the long time pro sifters, in creating all that text for those help sections? A bit like @Zawash has done here?

Could that work be done in anonymous google document (does require Google-account (I think, maybe, note sure if it even requires that), but editing and commenting on the document doesn't reveal identity in any case)?

If there are helpful and knowledgeable people, perhaps this document could be used for the work of creating a good help section and updated FAQ?

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hB-bGN9QJ0Wgu7_-jH22eHG3HYJ9_Oj4hG9EWsorNgE/edit?usp=sharing

I'm going to currently just copy all the material from the FAQ in there, and edit it to look nice and clear, and then separate 'Help/instructions' sort of stuff in to another section, and leave only actual basic Questions in the FAQ-section. Anyone's free to help and contribute! And if you come up with a better way of organizing everything, or want to write a completely new section, just use the document and do it!

I'm a total newb when it comes to anything related to actually using this site and its features (only submitted a couple of videos), so I think I'm underqualified for doing this by myself, so I sure hope you guys could help!

Just hop on in to the document and start doing useful stuff when ever!
Don't worry about accidentally doing anything, there's a complete undo feature in Google Docs, and each edit revision is saved as its own version, so if someone decides to vandalize (I heavily doubt anyone would do such a thing!) this, I can get the last good version back, and then put on restrictions on to who can edit etc. But, I'll do those things only if there is a need for that, let's keep the document super easily accessible and commentable for now!

Thanks!

(BTW. I really appreciate all the effort of the Admins and sifters have put in to the site over the years! I believe that there's quite a few other people besides me, who mostly just lurk around, and do not contribute much to the site actively.
That reluctance to participate might of course be due to us lurkers being like we are, but also it could heavily be related to the way in which it's a bit hard to find out about how stuff works currently..)
