BEAUTIFUL SCOTLAND (Highlands / Isle of Skye)

Nice. Hans Zimmer, one of my favorite composers. I once hunted down the castles in Monty Python and the Holy Grail filming locations and visited them on Google Earth.

In fact, yesterday I did the same thing with this video. It was in Split, Croatia.

About half of the locations are in Skye, most of the castles and lighthouses are not on Skye. OP has all his sites identified in Google Maps if you click on through to the Youtube page.

Michael Palin in North Korea - Special Edition

diego says...

that was great
I'm a big fan of monty python and I recognized the name but couldnt figure out who Palin was until they showed the monty python clip, had no idea he was a journalist now.
Ive always thought that NK has been unfairly demonized; they were victims of imperialism and the cold war, and sabre rattling aside they havent actually gotten into any wars beyond their own independence/civil war. The food shortages and poverty, I believe the western powers have a big hand in (much like in Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, and everywhere else capitalism was shunned). Not saying i'd model my ideal society on them, but i dont think they are as evil as they are made out to be..

Massive python caught hiding inside living room wall

MilkmanDan says...

Never had a python inside my house here in Thailand, but have had a couple of ~1m tree snakes (non-venomous) sneak out from behind dressers, etc.

But I am kind of known as the crazy snake-loving foreigner in my area, so I got called in to a neighbors kitchen one time and discovered a young monocled cobra (also about 1m). I really wanted to try to hold it by hand, but decided it was probably better to use a broom handle and guide it into a box. Then released it into an empty lot. Later, I realized that I probably should have opted for some eye protection -- some of the local cobras are spitters.

Generally, Thais kill snakes and then fire up the grill. Nice to see they kept this one alive, for the time being -- although the older fella yanking on the head probably didn't do it any favors. Snakes are quite tough though. Also fun to hear the chatter in Thai.

Perception of programming versus the reality

THIS!

This x100,000.

I just program in Python and BASH; I can't imagine how much shit Java coders go through. No wonder those guys are so well paid.
