Fall of the Republic - The Presidency of Barack Obama

GeeSussFreeK says...

^Profit from it? I think what this video is trying to do is be what the media should be, a watch dog. Granted, this is chop full of sensationalism and glances over things that are important, but it is at least making an effort to look out for "the man" and serve the interests of "the little guy". It seems like people who call shenanigans now are attacked with "loon" or "conspiracy nut" kind of ad hominem attacks.

While it isn't formal education, it is at least something to break the cycle of thought one normally is exposed to. A break from status que thinking that you would get at...say your local library. Established educational academia has a vested interests to not look "cooky" as it could detract from their attendance pool. They have a vested interest in not deviating from what you would expect. Being edgy or insightful goes against established academia and it is why a lot of real revolutionary thought comes from outside the university system.

Even well educated people on economics don't have any transparency into the fed. It is only partly a government organization, the business conducted in them is not a matter of public record. Recent attempts to make it so have been blocked and that is what the video is pointing out in the first 50mins or so. That massive cronyism and misconduct was and still is being conducted to rob the people of their savings to benefit a very small number of firms that generate no wealth.

I don't see why you would find it odd that the rich would conspire with other rich to protect their wealth and power. The history on this; mercantilism, cartels, feudalism, oligopolies, is just to clear to ignore. I think this video did a good job in capturing where these potential men in black coats could be, and if they are, offer a very interesting perspective into possible goals and means to archive those goals. I love war gaming. What I mean is to take a situation and map it out to its ends. Most people get ridiculed when they do this out in open air, which is a shame.

Your Opinion is Requested on a Court Case. (Politics Talk Post)

NordlichReiter says...

Let him rail against the system. Its about time some one stood up for what they think is right.

Do these radars keep a log? Timestamps and stuff like that?

If not the systems cannot be trusted, due to human error.

Would you rather this guy go and shoot a place up? Cause an insurrection? Conspire to incite a uprising? Or rather non violently present his 1st amendment right in the court of law.

Let me be the first to say, fuck you if you think he should hang. I care not whether he was guilty or not guilty. I care the tactic he used for making his statement known.

His statement will live forever in public record, of the court system, however swamped by the myriad of other court records. The system is set up to feed on the people. It feeds on the peoples toil, and exhaustive efforts to make something for themselves. Face it, the system is designed to fuck the people and take all of their hard earned rights. Know what makes it so godamned ironic? The people created the system!

As for speed limits, I object to a group of non peer reviewed opinions on what is safe and what is not. Until I can see peer reviewed scientific data to back up the speed limit. Then they are inherently corrupt. I would suspect, this is my opinion, that some one could make a case for the government trying to make revenue with the changing of the speeds.

Also, you should not have to stand if you do not. Simply say, I am exercising my 1st amendment right, which is freedom of expression, to not stand.

I'd like to see a new law regarding how congressional sessions are run.

Upon entering into any house of congress, everyone is affirming that everything they say, as a matter of public record will be held to the rules of perjury, and anyone found guilty of it should be stripped of their office and sentenced to no less than 5 years in federal prison.

These politicians need to be held accountable for their blatant lies, and it's obvious that their constituency are too lazy or too stupid to deal with them appropriately.

Cops Caught Plotting To Frame Motorist

dgandhi says...

This is why I think that all law enforcement officers should be cam'd and mic'd at all times.

I'm sure we can modify their badges to capture audio and VGA res video. In order for the department to arrest or bring any charges just require that the video and audio of any officer within 1/4 mile needs to be entered into the public record. Then watch all the crooked cops quit the next day.

P.S. don't forget to make not wearing the badge a felony with a mandatory 1mo sentence in a general population prison.

TheFreak says...

OMG!

I just pulled both of my children's certificates out of my files. My daughter's certificate was issued at the hospital when she was born and my son's was issued recently from the department of records...or something.

My son's certificate says, "Certificate of Live Birth". There is no hospital of record listed, the birthing doctor is not listed, only Date, name, certificate #, names and ages of parents and my son's gender.

My daughter's certificate, issued by the hospital at time of birth, is labeled, "Certified Abstract of Birth" With the same lack of information concerning doctor, hospital and location.

Other than the state listed at the top of the document, what proof do I have they were actually born in the US? I have no official statement from the chief public health official in my state nor the Governor of my state. The only proof I seem to have is the testimony of the parents....and their credibility is somewhat questionable. Especially any statements made by their mother, who is publicly under suspicion of having fabricated a story about not drinking the last of the rum last night.

Given the lack of evidence of my children's status as natural born citizens of the US and given the fact that there's no public record or statement to the effect that they've been naturalized, I may have no choice but to notify the authorities of the possibility that they are undocumented immigrants.

This matter is shameful. I hope that my children can produce some satisfactory documentation to support their claims of natural born citizenship. As it is, my son refuses to address the issue and only seeks to divert attention from all legitimate inquiry by asking me to play Lego Batman with him.

There are differences between "marriage" and "domestic partnerships/civil unions" in California. And, even if you live in a state that allows same-sex marriage, with DOMA still in place, there are a lot of federal differences.

Here's the factcheck on the differences:
http://www.factcheck.org/what_is_a_civil_union.html

And this is from Wiki:
---
Differences from Marriage

While domestic partners receive most of the benefits of marriage, several differences remain. These differences include, in part:

* Couples seeking domestic partnership must already share a residence, married couples may be married without living together.
* Couples seeking domestic partnership must be 18 or older, minors can be married before the age of 18 with the consent of their parents.
* California permits married couples the option of confidential marriage, there is no equivalent institution for domestic partnerships. In confidential marriages, no witnesses are required and the marriage license is not a matter of public record.
* Married partners of state employees are eligible for the CalPERS long-term care insurance plan, domestic partners are not.
* There is, at least according to one appellate ruling, no equivalent of the Putative Spouse Doctrine for domestic partnerships. [3]

Alan Keyes is Insane - Obama a Communist and NOT a Citizen

imstellar28 says...

^Okay, the picture of a birth certificate is a piece of evidence. Let me just preface that I could care less where he was born or if he is a technically a citizen. I care a lot more about the other issues. Still, I haven't found any conclusive evidence either way. If the contrary evidence below didn't exist, I agree the birth certificate would be enough. However, I have seen contradictory evidence so at this point I cannot be confident in the truth. That doesn't mean I am politically biased, it means I make decisions based on the evidence I have, not faith.

How do you respond to this:

"According to Obama's Kenyan (paternal) grandmother, as well as his half-brother and half-sister, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Kenya, not in Hawaii as the Democratic candidate for president claims. His grandmother bragged that her grandson is about to be President of the United States and is so proud because she was present DURING HIS BIRTH IN KENYA, in the delivery room.

A few months back, a birth certificate WAS posted on the internet which shows that Obama was born in Hawaii. Yet some say this birth certificate is a forgery and again, his grandmother states that she was present at the birth, in Kenya. So what is the truth?

One explanation is that Obama's mother Ann Dunham, flew to Kenya in 1961 with Obama's father to meet his family. According to some news reports, Ann Dunham, was not accepted well by her husband's family because she was white:

"Obama's family did not take to Stanley Ann Dunham Obama very well, because she was white, according to Sarah Obama. Shortly after she arrived in Kenya Stanley Ann decided to return to Hawaii because she later said, she did not like how Muslim men treated their wives in Kenya. However, because she was near term the airline would not let her fly until after the birth of her baby. Obama's grandmother said the baby—Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.—was born in Kenya and that shortly after he was born, Stanley Ann returned to Hawaii."

However, by the time she wanted to leave Kenya, it was during the late stages of her pregnancy. She was not able to board a plane because the airlines wouldn't allow women so close to birth to fly. It is instead believed, that Barack Hussein Obama was born in Kenya as his grandmother apparently stated. Then, after he was born, his mother returned with him to Hawaii where his birth was REGISTERED on or about August 8th, 1961, in the public records office in Hawaii.

There is also a discrepancy in what hospital Barack Hussein Obama was born in, even if he was born in Hawaii. Reports by his own sister in two separate interviews state that he was born at two different hospitals-- Kapiolani Hospital and Queens Hospital--in Honolulu."

The testimony of his grandmother or sisters could be falsified, but so could the birth certificate. Given the information presented here, how can one make an honest conclusion either way?

Bank of America Blows Bailout on Execs

14202 says...

First off, the Board of Directors, authorized how much the CEO of the bank was making, well before this financial crisis got started. With the list of pay, also has stipulations on the level of success reached by the company.

Second, this video does not give exact information, but merely, fear, that something has not gone according to plan. The information for the bailout for this bank, is a matter of public record. Now then, it is understood, that a bank is a business, and has to stay competitive. So its records are not known by the massaes. It is however known, by those peoples set up to over see the issues and exchanges according to the Congress of the USA.

Third, if you are still concern of this particular elements of the US goverment, contact your representative. That is their job, to REPRESENT you, the tax payer. If he doesnt do it, dont vote for them in the next election.

Fuck You, Female Coworker!

dgandhi says...

>> ^Krupo:There have been studies published which have shown that once variables have been removed, pay for men and women with the same experience and education is virtually identical"

The problem with these numbers is that these "variables" are not equally applied.

Some number crunching on funding and tenure applications for Professors in Universities, where we have lots of public information about their work and the impact of their work. Women need to be objectively twice as competent in their publication record to be considered equally competent as their male counterparts in terms of their likelihood of receiving funding or tenure.

Apply this across the whole of society and any assessment of "work performance" as an unbiased "variable" quickly falls apart.

Also consider that in industries which have a strong sexual bias the bias has a strong effect on earning potential. One textbook example is bank tellers, who were at one time all male, and they made a decent living, the profession shifted to female dominance, and AT THE SAME TIME the average wage dropped substantially. One can certainly argue about causation in this case, but the correlation is strong, and seems to apply across the board.

It is also reasonable to consider that women, being informed actors, choose, because society does not highly value their work, to do different things for a living, or prioritize work in different ways, which is still a consequence of a sexist social valuation, even if the choice of how to act in the face of it is still up to the individual.

How Hollywood Gets It Wrong On Torture

Farhad2000 says...

Dealing with hypothetical situations is also a form of presumption because you assume in all the situations you outlined that we know the most but not all of the information, some critical factor.

You are picking out the tree from the forest that is torture. It's impossible to have the situations you outlined, a terrorist being tortured to save the lives of many others, what if you are wrong? What if you end up torturing someone that is innocent? What if the suspect really doesn't know anything? What if all the torture only strengthens the resolve to stay silent, and you end up killing them?

This is the same reason right now the torture methods employed, the information it produced, the tapes of those events are destroyed lost or not given to the public record. Because it simply did not produce results and someone has hell to pay for violating the Geneva conventions and running the US name through the gutter.

Coercion always works better in interrogation. So far all you are doing is presenting fallacious 'what if' scenarios instead of looking at the wider picture of what the usage of such tactics would mean morally, socially and ethically for a nation that uses them. Especially for a democratic nation like the US.

But don't let logic dictate that, please go back to living in Jack Bauer's world where everything is conveniently black and white for you.

John McCain Mashup

Farhad2000 says...

John McCain has no credibility.

America would stand behind principled leadership, however his political future seems entirely depended on him selling his principle away, hes caved in to appeasing to the hardcore right wing side of the aisle.

The democrats should take plays from the Rovian book from 2000, attack him as being hotheaded and someone who switches his sides often regardless of his so called higher principles, his willingness to stand behind prolonged occupations within Iraq.

There is much evidence from the public record to cite, his stand against then for Evangelicals, then President Bush and Torture methods. His constantly mistaken views on how and when the Iraqi conflict would unfold and conclude, especially the PR tour with huge armed contingent that was supposed to prove to the American people that Iraq was safe. His stand against torture methods that won him accolades until he voted against applying the Army Field manual to all intelligence agencies.

Disappointing.

One Solution to the Energy Crisis - Geothermal Energy

deedub81 says...

For someone who says the sky is falling, [Al Gore] does very little. He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film's distributor, pays this.)

Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.

Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.

But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.
USA Today

But our current President, George W. Bush, owns a sustainable home that’s off-grid, that features geothermal cooling and heating, passive solar, and greywater systems.

“Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into purifying tanks underground; one tank for water from showers and bathroom sinks, which is so-called graywater, and one tank for black water from the kitchen sink and toilets. The purified water is funneled to the cistern with the rainwater. It is used to irrigate flower gardens, newly planted trees and a larger flower and herb garden behind the two-bedroom guesthouse. Water for the house comes from a well. The Bushes installed a geothermal heating and cooling system, which uses about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and air-conditioning systems consume. Several holes were drilled 300 feet deep, where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees.”
Off-Grid.net

Even portions of the home are made from waste materials from a local quarry!

If we use Al Gore as our role model for being environmentally friendly, Planet Earth is screwed.
