X-Men Apocalypse Trailer

AeroMechanical says...

Looks like they just need to get Carter to reverse the polarity on the Stargate. Just swap the red crystal with the blue crystal and reverse the orientation of the thing that looks like a plexiglass plate with some notches cut into it. To be safe, use the phrase "quantum field" in every other sentence and occasionally frown at your multimeter that isn't connected to anything. There you go. Problem solved.

MacGyver like ingenuity. No reverse...no problem

archwaykitten says...

Pushing the car in neutral seems easier, but even if it's not a great reverse system, it looks like an excellent way to teach his son about physics and problem solving. I solved a puzzle in a computer game in a similar way once, and I still feel proud about it.

Cuba's DIY Inventions from 30 Years of Isolation

MilkmanDan says...

That was absolutely fascinating -- great sift!

A few random thoughts:
-If any video has ever better demonstrated the idiom "necessity is the mother of invention", I don't know what it is.
-Castro was very very clever to anticipate the technological needs of his people and have the army print that "field guide" book that spurred on greater independent development.
-Some of the things they came up with remind me of working on my family farm. Every day is an exercise in problem solving -- how to solve problem A given a set of tools/resources B. And often the things in B don't really lend themselves towards A... So you end up hammering in a nail with a brick, or patching a friction hole in a metal pipe with a few layers of plastic from a 2 liter bottle and duct tape.
-That artist Oroza is a great combination of artist, historian, archeologist, and storyteller.
-We (the US) still have sanctions against Cuba, but I can't really say why that is warranted...

Deadbeat Non-Father, forced to pay $30K in Child Support

newtboy says...

I'll submit my assumption that, had the state simply accepted his word that it's not his child, so long after the fact and so long after being legally designated the parent, you would be up in arms about the state allowing him to be a deadbeat dad.
There's simply no winning with you people. If the state follows the law, which is clear and simple, the state's wrong. If they don't follow the law, the state's wrong. This story is about the fair and just society we live in, but you see it as an example of how society is not fair and just (by completely ignoring the fact that the first debt has been erased, and the second debt WILL be erased).

Perhaps this did 'hang over his head' for 24 years, but it didn't effect him in any way for that time, he had no idea it existed.

I'll put it to you and @Trancecoach, exactly what SHOULD have happened in your eyes in this case?
As I see it, once the fraud was discovered and revealed in court, the case and debt were dismissed, as it should be. The second case, about his 'debt' to the state will also be dismissed when it goes to trial. That simple, problem solved, but the two of you don't see it that way somehow and still need to rant about the state being evil.
The judge DID stand up, apologized, and corrected the part of the mistake he had a right to correct. Another judge will undoubtedly do the same thing when the second portion of the 'debt' is litigated.
I just don't get what youall are going on about with your ranting, the state followed the law, did the right thing in the first place (with the evidence they had, and with no one disputing the claims), and when they realized they had been lied to, immediately reversed their position and dropped the case.
And no, this is NOT typical in America. It's only the second case I've ever heard of, and it's the second case that's been properly adjudicated in the end.
Yes, he should get to 'go after' the woman that started the fraud, and the process server that continued it, but statutes of limitations probably make that impossible.
What exactly are you two angry about in this case? Do you even know? I certainly don't get it.

This guy has this hanging over his head for 24 years. When will someone stand up, apologize and correct this mistake.

He should go after the woman who crated the fraud but that would solve nothing.

Sad but probably typical in America.

The Daily Show - The Redskins' Name - Catching Racism

newtboy says...

Odd. Where I live we have many native American casinos. Not one of them has stereotypical 'indians' in head dresses, loin cloths, war paint, and beaded dresses. Except for the totem pole in front and their names, you might think they came direct from Reno. Is it different where you live?

My mom had the best solution to this Redskins issue, just change the mascot to a red potato, problem solved, name remains.

Mordhaus said:

Just give the upset folks some money, should solve the issue. I mean, they are more than willing to demean and stereotype themselves at Native American owned casinos to make boatloads of cash. Really only seems to be a problem when they don't get a portion of the revenue.

EDIT: Problem solved!

Hihi, a slight problem. I had discarded a video, and resubmitted it with a new name. Oritteropo promoted the discarded one, so now I have 2 of the same ones in the queue, and I can't do a dupeof because they are both mine.

Could you please do some magic so I can keep the promote and the combined votes! I don't care which one stays (title-wise)

Thanks!

Spider-Woman's Big Ass Is A Big Deal - Maddox

dannym3141 says...

@SDGundamX and addressing the devil's advocate rather than 'you'...

Spiderman's head is also raised (the same angle of their face is shown) and his back is arched, and i think that's clear when they are side by side. If anything i think spiderman's left leg is poorly drawn and his backside does need to be more in the air, whereas spiderwoman is a more human-like natural position for raising a knee over a ledge with your chest close to the ground. Remember that they are different artists bringing their own styles to a particular genre, they both have their own personalities and methods/methodologies. Furthermore, how much of an arch difference is necessary or acceptable and who makes those rules? Surely we must draw men and women differently so that we know whether the character is male or female (do we have too few fem superheroes is another question), and as a species we have different shapes. Surely amongst all these factors we must accept that the spiderwoman is a reasonable artistic recreation of the spiderman pic? If not, why not, taking all of those factors into account (and i can probably list more)? Basically we're asking the question "what is art?" here.

So that's why i think it's impossible for anyone to say the pose is sexual but the creator. No one questioned whether the spiderman pose was overtly sexual until someone drew spiderwoman doing "the same" (for argument's sake) thing. To a bunch of people who do not automatically see women as sexual objects (and i consider myself among that bunch), her pose is not sexual because the context isn't sexual. The question of sexuality arises when someone looks at the pic and goes "Gee, if i were levitating several hundred meters in the air directly behind her and she wasn't wearing any pants, she'd be 'presenting' to me for a split second."

So the ultimate level of 'equality' (or whatever) would be a world in which anything, in its particular context, is legal and absolutely ok. But of course, we can't depict nude youngsters in cinema even in the context of a bath for good reason, which let's generalise to all potentially difficult subjects (like sexism, racism, etc.) and call the "no one's perfect rule" - we can't trust everyone to keep things in context.

Our supposedly greatest form of organisation and problem solving - national governments, the pillars of our society - can't sort their proverbial arses from their proverbial elbows; if they're not perfect, how can we trust all of society to be?

In conclusion - i suppose we need a certain level of sexism or reverse-sexism that hopefully keeps us balanced between short-changing the future prospects of young girls in favour of young boys because of a biased society, and treating other people unfairly because of an over-zealous pursuit of what seems to be impossible.

One way of helping this is by very carefully checking the facts, the context and the meaning of what someone says before saying things like "sexist" or "mansplaining" or "racist". Always react as slowly as you may, that way you can be more or less enraged in your response depending on new info!

Edit: Want to add that if i had a pic of myself in that spidey pose, i'd be pretty happy putting it up on an eharmony profile or something - it is a 'sexy' pose, it looks good, he looks lean and strong and fit. I don't like this idea that women don't have sexual urges or that lean, fit men aren't sexy to women. It's possibly sexist to assume that! He's kind of presenting too, from a certain position...

#ALSicebucket Haters... watch this...

Sniper007 says...

From one of the links above:

"People are constantly hearing that so called als is termed incurable, and still they search for healed of als or cured of als stories, als survivors and “als miracles”.

Well, the people doing those searches are onto something, and you don’t need a miracle, to solve, survive, or “cure” als. As with any health problem, solving nerve health problems so called diagnosed as als just takes changing your ideas and ways and doing the work it takes to get yourself healthy. In other words, instead of waiting for a miracle or a cure for als, people can solve the problem themselves, and many have done so.

In many places, they don’t even use the term als. They just call it motor neuron disease, which sounds less like some entity attacking people and more like heart disease or something else that people realize is just a health problem that can be solved by making the right choices and adjustments.

Knowledge is power and it’s also the cure for als.

So, by following these links you can find stories of people who have done well at healing themselves, or curing als naturally, and you can find inspiration and information that you can use to heal yourself, as more people are doing all the time."

Making cocaine in Colombia

chingalera says...

Here's a maverick idea.....

Replace the state-sanctioned tool of pubic school indoctrination/de-education with an 'actual' education miraculously providing a generation with the cognitive framework for problem-solving. Instill in the youth a tangible, effective foundation of critical-thinking skills instead of constantly drilling them with reinforcement of controlled behavior within a fascist police-state-society and preparatory for insertion into the workforce or civil-servitude. At the same time, legalize ALL controlled substances decriminalizing the individual's innate right as a human to do what the fuck they will.

Cocaine is no worse than hundreds of drugs or foods or habit-forming activities for that matter, control is the problem. A corner on the market by the cunts who are running the planet off a precipice for personal gain is the 'actual' problem.

Don't blame the substance, blame the abuse of power and a fiendish addiction to control. Drugs have done as much to create the world we enjoy today as the discovery of fire and using it to cook food. A few assholes want to tell you what the fuck to do with fire and spend billions to train monkeys to back them up....Fuck these enemies of humanity.

Or if people had sufficient cognitive ability to understand why it's not a good idea to consume it even if it was legal.

Destroying rally car in two seconds

My_design says...

Maybe it was one of those problem solving things like in engineering class where you have to drop an egg from the second story window and not break it, only in Dubai.
I'd give them a D, you know for the effort, but they really should have failed.

Payback said:

I was about to say MOST rally cars that get destroyed, do it in far less than 2 seconds, but I have to say, this wasn't what I was expecting.

Anyone have any idea what they were attempting? Roof jumps? One of those pranks people play on the dean of the college?
