Introducing FarmBot Genesis

eoe says...

All you haters should maybe learn to code and help them out. It's open source, after all.

I think this is a great idea that will only get better as people start tinkering with it. I see great ways that you could use machine-learning or even just expert advice to know exactly what food you can grow in your conditions (including gophers and chipmunks).

All technology starts out impractical because it's new, expensive, and buggy. Give it a few years, and there will be cheap as prefab ones that do tons of cool things.

Buncha haters (except @dag and @siftbot).

Prefab building... cant be compared to steel beamed structures.. if that is what you are pointing at.

Different structural integrity.

But buildings can only collapse into their own footprint through controlled explosive demolitions! This is obviously a government cover-up to justify the invasion of the subsequently built parking lot.

Tiny, portable, prefab cube shelters in medieval French town

What is this concept based on, or what's the target for this? Is it like a temporary or summer house? Is it just a place to come back for sleep? No current water nor electricity. On a rainy day/night the sound inside this will sound like you are living in a acoustic guitar. Not that I'm against this idea, but I am.
Ergonomic homes are awesome, but not this 3x3m box.

I am not sure if you watched the video, or read the description.. 'portable cube prefabs are being used across France as rural hotels','this vacation prefab was designed for stargazing', 'it's assumed they'll be used as vacation rentals'..

Also if it had a shower, toilet, electric fireplace and plugs for things like the coffeemaker.. and a working fridge, it does have running water and electricity.

It sure seems like there is running water and electricity... I believe it's meant to be a vacationing home of sorts.

literally. years.

Prefab systems might be bleh, but all laptops are prefab, and you really can't custom build one for an affordable price. Not yet anyway.

Explosive-Free Building Demolition

China builds 15 story hotel in 6 days

Tymbrwulf says...

Oh man, I really hope they poured that foundation and let it set long before they started construction on that building. Looks like they worked non-stop!

I'm curious to see how durable a building like this is in comparison to a building built without all these prefabs.

WORD-(three spoken word shortfilms)

peggedbea says...

we have one here
just on the edge of town
with a fake rock facade, constructed in half a day with half as much thought
molded of prefab steel
designed by the minds at the architect battery farm

one used bookstore
filled, all 4500 sq feet of brand new primo commercial over priced real estate
built on top of old family land sold to the highest bidder after the urban sprawl sprawled so far south
on the edges of the midwest corridor super highway, slicing through the heartland
filled, with every book you've ever been told you must read
... to be considered well read
filled, with enough vampire mini series to keep a town like this piling into one of two movie theatres
filled, with minimum wage employees who may or may not have pink hair and a piece of cartilage pierced
filled, with the books you either did or did not get around to reading, most likely the latter
.... considering their fate
filled, with half priced books

a name which lost its meaning in a trademark, all rights reserved.

I am in full agreement with the stated position of AC. I am totally against prefab holidays and this is the most prefabby of them all. I'm a firm believer of telling those you love that you love them as often as possible, and it doesn't require a special day of the year to show that love.
My favorite holiday, and not for the reasons that some celebrate it is Thanksgiving, lots of friends and food... that's a fricken holiday!

Dude, you want prefab holiday? Three Canadian provinces have created "Family Day" which is an actual statutory holiday. It's on Monday.

In other news, I'm just grumbling at the # of dead vids notices I'm getting. I have nothing against SiftMaintenance - it's key to keep this place a useful, er, repository? - but it's also bloody annoying to see so much viral magic getting the neo-realist shaft. UGH.

Try and kill my obscure video source now, you bastards.

I used to live in Irvine, but that was decades ago. I hated it. It was prefab hell. But I moved to Laguna Beach and felt more at home (outside of being educated, I've always lived in beach towns). I'm NoCal these days, but still at the beach.

I hope you all had a blast.
