Formula Ford EcoBoost - on Road and Nürburburgring

oritteropo says...

One of the comments says 8:36, but doesn't provide a source... perhaps worked it out from the vid? It's certainly over 8 minutes and under 9, so quite quick but not quite the bonkers 7:22 from Nick Tandy. For reference, that's not a whole lot slower than James Hunt's pole position time of 7:06.5 in the 1976 German Grand Prix, the last one held on the track.

plastiquemonkey says...

they call it "The Human Pole Position":

"POLE POSITION is the 3rd video performance of the GAME OVER Project, directed by the Swiss artist Guillaume REYMOND (NOTsoNOISY creative agency).

Who does not remember POLE POSITION, one of the very first racing car video games? With a Formula 1 in hands, the driver had to try and avoid other vehicles and travel as many kilometres as possible on a sinuous road. Moreover, to add to the challenge, from time to time, the road would become narrower so as to become a bridge, or a night mode would diminish visibility...

Well, the biggest ever race of POLE POSITION has in fact taken place on February 11th 2007, during the festival "The Game is up!" in the Vooruit (Ghent, Belgium):

49 extras
6 hours of shooting
400 pictures"

hmm... the cars at the beginning look a lot like the Pole Position cars (where you can see the wheels), from what I remember. The game itself is certainly not PP, though. Did PP even have turns? I thought the original was just a straight-forward track where you dodged left/right.

The gameplay looks a LOT like the game I used to play on the Apple II, though: autobahn.

Edit: In fact, the more I think about it, autobahn went through "tunnels"/"night" phases like they showed with the lights. (that effect was pretty cool)

Why do they need to loop these? Everyone I've seen has the first half repeated...

Anyways, I disagree with their interpretation of pole position. Maybe vague racing game, but clearly not any situations in pole position (4 pixel wide lane and no way to pass)

Good video, I like the night version. I wonder what is next. And why not pac man yet?

Ayrton Senna - Tribute

michie says...

Ayrton Senna (BRA)

World Champion - 1988, 1990-1991

Grand Prix Starts: 161
Grand Prix Wins: 41
Pole Positions: 65

He streaked through the sport like a comet, an other-worldly superstar whose brilliance as a driver was matched by a dazzling intellect and coruscating charisma that illuminated Formula One racing as never before. No one tried harder or pushed himself further, nor did anyone shed so much light on the extremes to which only the greatest drivers go. Intensely introspective and passionate in the extreme, Ayrton Senna endlessly sought to extend his limits, to go faster than himself, a quest that ultimately made him a martyr but did not diminish his mystique.
