Charlie Brooker's 2016 Wipe

poolcleaner says...

The complaint about public service is... odd. I actually thought that was awesome and then he played up that anti-Monarchy card, when the monarchy, as powerless as they really are, contribute millions (billions?) of pounds to their country from tourism alone. (I know I'm an ignorant American, but there are plenty of documentaries on BBC America HAHAHA...)

Anyway. lol -- "For the queen!"

I think all people should do some sort of clean up public service. It's a fucking civic duty. I clean up after littering Pokemon Go players at my local park. No one fucking else will. or it takes a city clean up crew months or longer to make an impact on massively littered public places.

Maybe it's an American problem. No joke, I called up a volunteer group (most cities should have them) and volunteered to clean up that shit. Maybe if we had a danged queen (and her undies) or if Trump tweeted "proles AND rich fucks spend a day cleaning up" we'd make a societal impact, as lame as BOTH Trump's and the Queen's platforms are.

No Man's Sky Expectations Vs. Reality

Quboid says...

Pokemon Go expectations: I'm getting robbed at gun point and trampled by a crowd of total idiots running into the street to catch a Charizard. Get out of the fucking intersection!!

Pokemon Go reality: There's another Digley or Pigley or whatever the fuck it's called in my garden.

No Man's Sky Expectations Vs. Reality

Pokemon Go expectations: I'm going to catch them all in real life! Maybe I'll see Pikachu chilling out in my backyard or a wild Rapidash running majestically through the field of my local park!

Pokemon Go reality: I'm getting robbed at gun point and trampled by a crowd of total idiots running into the street to catch a Charizard. Get out of the fucking intersection!!

Pokémon Go - Did You Know Gaming? Feat. Jimmy Whetzel

*Promote. That was neat. I haven't played Pokemon GO yet (or any of the Pokemon games for that matter) but it looks much better than some other mobile games I've tried.

POKEMON GO (Honest Game Trailers)

How free games are designed to make money

yellowc says...

Well I'm glad she added that Pokemon Go has a fairly reasonable model, I feel like that was the strong hand of Nintendo.

If you take away location differences, which there is a glaring issue with at the moment. Two players in the same reasonably supported area, the major difference in needing to spend money is how much you want to walk and that's the core of the game.

So if you want to play the game as designed (with no false limitations), you can generally play for free.

She's also not wrong that because of all that, I actually was inclined to make a purchase, it was small and I spent it on the non-expendable upgrades but I've been pretty anti-freeium in the past, so it was a big step for me to give such a game money.

I think Pokemon Go has certainly obliterated that 1-2% pay money statistic. I'm positive reports will eventually show it had a much higher stat.

It's not a saint, you can still gain a sizeable advantage by spending a lot of cash and these elements are still very much targeting the addiction of whales (expendable, short durations, element of luck with egg hatching). But it is a refreshing change for how they treat the "other" group of players.

No, Pokémon Go Can't Read Your Email

Babymech says...

I love the fact that Pokemon Go was literally created by Niantic whose CEO (John Hanke) is a CIA agent, whose funding comes from CIA's venture capital arm (In-Q-Tel), and is linked to the CIA-funded Keyhole program (now Google Earth) which dealt with mass satellite surveillance, and which accidentally turned on all kinds of surveillance permissions in its app.

I don't believe that this is any kind of surveillance conspiracy, but it's a beautiful conspiracy theory foundation. So much better than chemtrails.
