Seattle officer punches girl in face during jaywalking stop

longde says...

So what happens when the officer declines to tell you what you are being charged with? Do you refuse to give identification?

Also, you should always take advantage of your right to be silent.

>> ^MaxWilder:
No damn reason? She tried to get away! Does that mean nothing to you?
You think complying with instructions from an officer of the law is the same as kissing their ass? You have a fucked up world view.
If an officer tells you to stop, you stop.
If an officer asks you a question, you reply with as much information you feel appropriate.
If an officer tells you to give identification, you politely ask what you are being charged with.
If an officer tells you what you are being charged with, you give identification.
If at any point you try to walk away, you are an idiot. If at any point you are rude or belligerent, you are an idiot.
This is not kissing ass. This is being respectful of the role in society that the officer plays. All you have to do is be polite. If that is difficult for you, that is your problem, not the officer's.
An officer is not under any kind of obligation, legally or morally, to show you more respect than you show him. Like I said before, if you comply with an officer's instructions and then you get beat, that is an entirely different story and I would be fully supportive of getting that officer fired and/or imprisoned. But that is not. what. happened. here. This is a video of two women who were disrespectful, unruly, tried to flee the scene, and laid hands on an officer while he was trying to do his job.

just a quick rebuttal fyi, in BC, Doctors, Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and Licenced Practical nurses can pronounce death, although there is no legal reason to do so. The only legal demand of the process is that a death certification be made within 48 hours. It would be negligent imho if there wasn't at least a nurse present. I believe it is an IOC requirement.

In reply to this comment by rgroom1:
just a quick fyi, only a medical doctor can pronounce someone as dead. The only time that anyone else can is if there is positively no chance of survival. He probably died on impact with that pillar, but he can't be pronounced dead until a doctor sees him.

In reply to this comment by Payback:
He didn't die during the video, only due to injuries which occured.

This is playing all over the news, we will not be stopping anything by killing it.

Mel Gibson calls reporter an asshole

MaxWilder says...

This guy has issues. He's been in the public eye how long? And isn't ready to throw out his best sincere mea culpa on demand? No, no, no. You are a performer, Mel. When someone throws you a soft ball like "Do you think the public will perceive you any differently after all that's been in the news about you?" you perform! This is sheer incompetence, and I would not want to work with him on any project based solely on his inability to downplay what is fairly normal "celebrity" bad behavior. This is arrogance, pure and simple. He's still pissed that he had to do any sort of apologizing at all, and he is too prideful to suck it up and keep his game face on.

Admittedly, it's a stupid game that celebrities have to play, all the groveling when they get caught misbehaving. But the public can and does turn against people. If he sinks a project, he may not get another one. That's how stars disappear.

Been Thinking about Copyright Lately. (Blog Entry by dag)

campionidelmondo says...

I remember when I was a kid I used to tape movies that were running on TV as well as songs from the radio. I suppose that could be considered "piracy" as well nowadays, but back then there wasn't that much fuzz about it. I mean that's what VCR's were for. Couldn't watch something at the time it was playing, you'd tape it for later viewing(s).

Never had one but they had VCR'S that automatically cut out the commercials. If I'm not mistaken that's what TiVo's do? So how come storing shows and movies on your TiVo is legal but downloading them off the net is copyright infringement.

Btw, I'd love to see you reenact Avatar in some town square. I think it would be a hit. Of course you'd have to play all the parts yourself, maybe fashion costumes out of blue garbage bags. Someone would have to tape it, too. It's got #1 Sift written all over it

The Unemployment Game Show: Are You *Really* Unemployed?

Xaielao says...

This game gets played all to often. During the bush administration re-heating burgers for BK means you were counted as having a job in 'manufacturing' which of course also falsely inflated job numbers in that sector by a massive amount.

Frankly this country wont be 'right' again until we get big business out of politics and government. As long as every last legislator is legislating based on which trillion dollar a year company lined his pockets last, the USA will never be 'by the people, for the people', let alone a Democracy (baring the one day every few years that we actually are a democratic republic.)

Why bother with anything other than an iPod?

Because if you were an audiophile you'd know that ipods have some of the worst audio quality of any portable media player. They also lack the ability to play all non apple-approved formats. Plus apples monopoly on the portable music sector = bad.
The sad truth is zune has far Superior playback quality.
