30 tons of trash clog shoreline in Dominican Republic
Any information on this? Is this the result of illegal ocean dumping, a trash barge sinking, or just normal garbage filled runoff at this spot?
It's hardly the only island paradise overrun with plastic. This is what people do, nearly everywhere we go. We need a plague, yesterday.
Haitian Prime Minister resigns amid fuel price protests
I'd love to be wrong.
But even with less demand for gas and diesel for ground transport, we'll still need petrochemicals for air transport and plastic production (neither of which are going away any time soon).
Ultimately, they are a finite resource and even ignoring the effects of climate change we are going to run out eventually (especially if there's continued exponential growth).
The only good news is that IF we can produce enough EVs and enough renewable electricity to run them, that cost won't hurt most people (at least not in transport terms).
But even then, it will (optimistically) be a decade or two before EVs outnumber ICEs.
So yeah, IMO, fuel is going to go up.
I hope you are wrong. A few countries have announce goals for increasing the percentage of electric cars on their roads. The reduction in sales for gas and diesel cars should lead to less demand... maybe...

Inject your way to flavor
Sounds like a good idea... the problem is that everything is plastic, is difficult to clean, and probably won't last long.
There might be a more professional version of this.
New Rule: Suckers | Real Time with Bill Maher
Oops,I must have missed the start of the video somehow lol.
But if that was his reasoning, he's still passing the buck. Why do we have to wait for the government to tell us on to throw plastic into the ocean or not to buy beef because it causes more emissions than all transport. For a person who constantly wants to keep government out of our lives, he seems to want them to also solve his problems.
Anyway I don't like the guy, but thanks for the follow up, I really did miss the message. Thx.
Um, you completely missed his point. Didn't you listen to him?
He's saying it doesn't matter what you do of what rules you use personally, it will make no difference if we don't have the proper leadership in government to make the right decisions in leadership is setting standards and solid decisions on how to clean our environment.
This video is about how, really, only government can effect the change needed to curb global warming.
Unfortunately the current US government is dismantling all those rulings and safe-gaurds, in the name of corporate money and greed over environment and the people affected by those decisions.
(His point was NOT that people trying to be healthy were dying young anyway. He was using them as examples to the fact that, no matter how hard you try on a personal level, it takes laws to make the bigger decisions to affect change)
Engineering Student Designs "Mobile Airbag" that Deploys...
aktually, a disclaimer much like that of air bags would put a quick end to any lawsuits. Also from the looks of it, it is a fairly safe design. The "hooks" are a very blunt segmented plastic that is a pretty harmless u shaped, so the tips arn't digging into anything. And the metal bands have so little force behind them that they are easily bendable back into a locked and loaded position.
I think I would actually dig this type of case, sign me up to test!
Spacer Installation on 765,000 volt line
I'm surprised that the line does not have a weather coating. It looks like just steel cables. Or maybe that is the protection and the actual electrical conduit is inside, but the outer surface sure looked energized.
I guess I expected a plastic or rubber coating.

A Perfect Circle -- So Long And Thanks For All The Fish
Note Ali (Muhammad Ali), Leia (Carrie Fisher), Major Tom (David Bowie), Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder), Prince, and Brady's Mom (? - Florence Henderson?), all recent celebrity deaths.
Lyrics from https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/perfectcircle/solongandthanksforallthefish.html :
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On diets, lawyers, shrinks and apps
And flags, and plastic surgery
Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom
Ali and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry
Bravissimo, hip-hip hooray
For this fireworks display
Mind and body blown away
What a radiant crescendo
Ticker tape parade
Our hair and skin like
Like Marilyn Monroe
In an empty wind
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On politicians, fancy water
And guns, and plastic surgery
Like old Prince and Brady's mom
All the dolphins have moved on
Signaling the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry
Bravissimo, hip-hip hooray
What a glorious display
Melt our joyous hearts away
Under the mushroom cloud confetti
Hip-hip hooray
For this fireworks display
Mind and body blown away
What a radiant crescendo
Hip-hip hooray
Hip-hip hooray
Ticker tape parade
Our hair and skin like
Like Marilyn Monroe
In an empty wind
Time is money and money is time
We wasted every second dime
On diets, lawyers, shrinks and apps
And flags, and plastic surgery
Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom
Ali and Leia have moved on
Signal the final curtain call
In all this atomic pageantry
The result of our obsession with plastic
You might have a point....if industry didn't know the damage their product causes. Since they clearly do know their product is disastrous for the planet and have known for decades, and continue make and pollute more all the time instead of mitigating the damage they cause, it's MOSTLY industry to blame today.
Junkies really want heroin, we still assign most of the blame to the cookers and pushers.
Tossing your plastics is the problem. The solution is to not take any more...for instance, you don't need a separate bag for each vegetable you buy....and to religiously recycle any you cannot avoid.
Why the animosity? Do you work for a plastics manufacturer? Would you react the same if we were talking asbestos instead of plastic?
Hmmm... along comes plastic. Plastic is cheap, reusable, lasts a long time, doesn't mind getting wet, weighs less compared to the variety of non-plastic things it replaced. Humans love plastic. Producers make more things out of plastic to keep the humans happy. Uh oh. Plastic winds up where it shouldn't. Humans aren't bad, plastic producers that made the plastic for the humans are bad. Humans might have wanted it before, now they don't, but it's not their fault, it's the shitty industries fault. How dare they make things that we used to want, but now we don't. Bastards. If you feel so strongly, take everything you own that has plastic in it and give it the toss. That'll show 'em. (Proper government representation?)

No obsession here, simply a result of our shitty industries and lack of proper government representation to control this crap.
