Scrubs - Mistake Guy

brycewi19 says...

I've always been bothered by this scene as this is a direct lift from comedian Dana Gould's standup routine called "Fun House" back in 1998. For proof, go to http://www.amazon.com/Fun-House-Dana-Gould/dp/B00000HY4Z/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1213678080&sr=8-1 and check out the preview of the 13th track.

Sorry. This is my first response here, but I couldn't help but respond to plagiarism of one of my favorite stand-up comedians (even though I love Scrubs).

Missing Video (Wtf Talk Post)

Lucky - I'm pretty sure the copyright holder is Harvard University. Was any evidence of ownership offered by whomever contacted you? The reason I ask is because that video was used by a creationist in his own bit of plagiarism, and it would be truly ironic if that's who was claiming copyright infringement. Qruel left a link about it on each of those two vids.

More generally, how do you guys handle copyright claims? I mean, I assume you don't just remove a vid because someone writes an email claiming they are so-and-so and own such-and-such vid, right?

You forgot to mention that KLF stood for "Kopyright Liberation Front" and that the band was on the forefront of sampling other peoples' works and appropriating them for other purposes. They coined the term "creative plagiarism".

Heh.

This was a new low: A bunch of pseudoscientific stealth Creationists twisting scientific educational material made by people who actually DO science, into something to combat science.

We've long known DI was a pack of liars. Now we know they are thieves, too.

I hope Harvard lowers the boom on 'em!

Dear Texas, (Election Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

Am not at all surprised she won Texas and Ohio, these states are very conservative and far more reluctant to vote for someone like Obama. I read an interesting analysis that stated that the more a voter knows about the campaigns the more willing he is to vote for Obama over Hillary, the vice versa holds true as well.

Clinton seems safe, besides the Lewinsky scandal most folks have a positive impression of Clinton years, no thanks to the economy boom that just happened to occur then.

I personally dislike the Clintons, they play just as dirty as the republicans, Clinton just could lie to you better then Bush can. This is the same person who went ahead and bombed Serbia bypassing the UN. Which is no better then Bush.

Purely on policy stances Obama and Clinton do not differ much at all, what we are voting for is character now. Compare how Obama handles himself and how Clinton does - the weeping tears stunt that somehow snowballed into a feminist voting block, the smear attacks such as the plagiarism thing against Obama. In this regard I admire the way Obama has conducted himself so far, his ability to create immense feelings of hope and change through rhetoric is especially admirably, even when he doesn't really say anything specific.

Between both of them however they don't really signal too much of a radical change from the Bush whitehouse, both candidates promise to reduce and not withdraw forces from Iraq. Both will probably support occupation status the likes of South Korea. Both are pro-Isreali candidates which would mean cooperation with Iran and Syria is probably out of the question. Both I believe will be middle of the road and centrist, nothing radical will happen, unlike Kunnich, Gravel or Paul.

Obama still has a numerical advantage on the number of delegates I believe, so it's not over yet. The magical unity pony might still make it.

Just Words. Just not Obama's.

This story had no legs, that's why nothing came of it. The Clinton camp tried to make a big deal of it, but once it became apparent that Hillary did the same thing they clammed up. Then they were on to bigger and better smear tactics, like sending the Obama-turban picture to Drudge.

I'm not a huge fan of either. I wish either Edwards or Dodd had won the nomination. I don't care for this video because it needlessly started a smear war. I posted my Hillary-plagiarizes-Bill video in the hopes that it would end this particular story line. I'll vote for it now, in the hope that if it gets sifted then people will read the comments and see how stupid this story really is.

Clinton Shiv Yields No Blood But Boos

Crosswords says...

Just after the boos she kind of veered off the subject and started talking about health care or something again. Its like she dipped her toe in and then decided it wasn't a good thing halfway through.

The plagiarism issue is stupid. A debate or a political rally is not the kind of place you start citing sources, nobody cares about that. They're there to hear ideas and learn what the candidates plan/platform is. If he were at some academic symposium giving a lecture on some political issue, then I'd expect him to cite sources.

See how silly this plagiarism thing is?

Hillary Clinton at it again!

Here's another instance of Hillary "plagiarizing", and this one from what most view as the most effective lines of her debate performance in Austin, Texas.

Bill Clinton, New Hampshire, 1992: "The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of New Hampshire are taking every day." *

Hillary Clinton, February 21, 2008: "You know, the hits I've taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country."

Another Xerox moment, perhaps? Certainly a double standard. I don't really think this is plagiarism of course. She's simply borrowing an effective theme from Bill here. This would be perfectly acceptable were it not for her ridiculous attacks against Obama for using powerful speech lines from his friend and supporter Deval Patrick.

*Note: It appears that Bill Clinton used variations of this line in speeches in 1992 and in 1996.
