QI - I Before E Except After C

lol they put hacienda and concierge up there as if they're English.
also, I always want to spell weird "wierd" because phonetically I think ERD makes a better match for the sound than IRD the way most people pronounce it.

Weird, as in we (the two of us) and bird (the feathered things). Do you ever want to spell it berd?

Speaking of berds I have a heron that comes to my garden and eats the ghoti out of my pond!

it said cbs goddamn sports. maybe it was a segue-way for the march madness coverage on said affiliated networks? or maybe you should go buy another copy of catcher in the rye.

Segue is pronounced "seg-way" and doesn't require a redundant phonetic "way" added to the end.

And I'm pretty sure it has a lot to do with the http://www.letsmove.gov/ campaign and little to do with March Madness, but I don't claim to have the ability to persuade the myopic majority who cling blindly to partisan flag waving.

It's getting to where you can't ask a fucking question about Obama without his automaton army getting defensive and attacking you. Jesus Christ. Calm down, I don't give a shit what he's promoting. He could be there to promote euthanasia of fat people and I wouldn't give a goddamn.

Quebec story on The young turks,Muslims stirring up trouble

Is there really a huge wave of test impersonators using a Muslim Niqab? I call bullshit on that.

It's not the Niqab in specifically, but proxy exam taking is one of the most common cheats, and I would know because I've been teaching at a university for 6 years. Niqab is just something that would facilitate the sort of cheating that is already a problem. It is also common practice to ask students to remove all hats during exams so that their eyes can be seen to not wander when they are hunched over an exam paper. In a smaller class they don't need to ID card people, because the teacher knows everybody's name by sight, unless their face is always covered.

Also, I imagine that when instructing students in a foreign language on phonetics it would be very helpful to see how they are moving their mouth so that you can correct them if that is part of the problem.

WTF was that accent? Twangs of Aus in there?

Boston.
Sounds nothing like an aussie.

SRSLY? There's some strange phonetics going on there, especially with words like "father", "start", "carving" which are very similar to a typical Aussie accent.

Nah, they are typical of what the americans think is an aussie accent.
But, being an aussie, I can tell you they are nothing alike

Try to be understanding. Westy writes from his room at celebrity rehab, where he's overcoming his sex addiction.

Just takes to long for me to spell check into word (or using Google) and then paste it into websites ,

the Fire fox spell prediction is not that good so Evan when u select words to fix spelling they are often the wrong ones or worse than something that's a phonetic approximation.

I treat spelling on web-pages the same way people treat chatting in the pub , actually i think spelling is less important than talking clearly Evan when its a written forum.

At least with bad spelling its possible to work out the meaning quite easily especially if its largely written in phonetic way.

Its interesting how allot of people treat bad spelling like bad math , Evan though language can function perfectly well with bad spelling and in fact Manny words come out of bad spelling of other languages that we stole . but math almost always brakes Evan if u just change one small component. Thats really the charm of written languages the open and interpretable/subjective nature of them facilitates a natural redundency in the data , where as math dose not , not naturally anyway and arguably that's wherein-lies the charm of math and its use within science.

Yes, I know, you're absolutely right. My spelling can go off course sometimes when I'm typing in a hurry... I need to take more time and go back over what I write before hitting the send button. Sometimes I do - sometimes I don't. I do know the difference, though, and I sometimes default to phonetic spelling when I'm rushed or not paying close enough attention.

Just thought i'd let you know - "wonder" means amazement at something, "to look on in wonder" or it could mean to think something over, "i wonder if this is right?". Pronounced wun-der. Wander means to walk around, and i think that's what you mean. Pronounced one-der.

My job isn't to care about the money spent on this. That was awesome; suspenceful!
There was so much going on there. That really takes the art of film making to the next level. Really, I mean, in the realm of "entertainment", that just painted one second of an amazing action scene, letting us wonder around as if we lived outside of time.

I bet that is what it is like to be Q

On another note...,
My dad's dad, (my grandpa - Opa in German) had the name Leonardt. I never met him. He never made it out of Germany/Poland in WW2 but I was named after him. My parents made the decision to change the spelling to a more "Canadian" (phonetic) spelling.
Lenard – this way no one could incorrectly call me “Leo.” The 'O' was silent in the english translation. I shortened it to Len around grade seven after I got tired of being called names like Leonard Nimoy and Lynnerd-Skinnerd, I have often considered having my name changed back to the original spelling of Leonardt.
