There's one thing I don't get about the differences in Pride and UFC rules. In UFC, you can't kick or knee a downed opponent to the head, but you can in Pride. In Pride you can't strike with elbows to the head, but you can in UFC. I'm sure it has something to do with the differences in the rules & regulations for where the event is held, but it seems to me that knees, kicks and head stomps are more dangerous than an elbow to the head.

The elbow ban in Pride FC was, as I remember it, more of an issue with fighters trying to win by trying to open up a huge, uncloseable but non-damaging cut, making for boring ends to fights and a pretty shitty way of winning. I'm undecided as to kneeing, kicking, and stomping a downed opponent - I know I've appreciated having the rules swing in my favor, but I can remember a few times that I would have destroyed my opponent if I could have kneed to the head (particularly with north-south ownage). Safety first, obviously, but it does make MMA feel a bit more...sport-like, just like the "no punching to the back of the head" rule.

It's a moot point, though, seeing as how Pride FC is dysfunctional under Zuffa control.
