Creationism Vs Evolution - American Poll -- TYT

shinyblurry says...

I'm sure this poll is a shock to many of you. Growing up in the secular world, where all of the media you consume is geared towards secular interests, and when all of the people you hang around have those same interests, you might get the idea that Christians just constitute some fringe part of society. At least, that's what I used to think. I was fairly shocked to find out that this country is predominantly Christian. Or that 1/3 of the worlds population is Christian.

I am also in the more unique position of having once been a die hard believer in evolution and the old age of the Earth, and being convinced otherwise by the evidence, or lack there of. To note, I was perfectly willing to accept these two ideas, even as a Christian. I had been fully indoctrinated and so I had naturally expected to find a preponderance of strong evidence for them, case closed. It was only after investigating the data (and not just the conclusions) that I was *extremely* shocked to find that it took a greater leap of faith to believe in those theories than it did to believe Genesis.

For those of you unafraid to challenge your preconceived notions, and challenge you it will, I recommend this book:

DMT Revelations with Terence McKenna

My psychedelic testicles doth soaketh up the mislead words of a life half liveth in and a mind convened in knowledge of a time irrelevant, hypocritical and uninformed then spooge it out as mutli-colored love bubbles ; and the dribbling basketballs just laugh out an infinite chord calling into existence pure forms of energy you will never understand, at least until you die of old age and as you fade away you will be saying inside your little head "I was wrong the whole time... dammmmnnnn ugghhhhhh.... oooo look at the pretties!!!"

Children Who Kill!! - (Watch FULLSCREEN)

dannym3141 says...

The story of Jamie Bulger is fucking horrifying. Those two little cunts will live to a ripe old age on taxpayer money. And Jamie Bulger is in a hole in the ground, his short life brought to a slow, humiliating and agonising end.

When i try to imagine the terror that he must have been going through, i think i could tear these 2 fuckers apart with my bare hands.

He was crying his eyes out for help all the way... fuck me i hope there is a god sometimes, that kid deserved more.

I got all of that from looking at the screen cap, can't even watch now. I hope it's not just sensationalism, it'd be sad to see his death being used like that.

The nice Christians generally don't argue. :]
Too many political debates are faith based, with no foundation in reality - us against them mentality, where I'm on this side because I'm against that other guy.
When I was younger, I always thought that voting with your brain (for the one that's most likely to win that's better than the other guy that I don't like) was the best, but in my ripe old age of 28, I'm voting more and more by heart. Be damned if they will actually get into government, at least I'll send a message. Here in denmark, whether it's the left or right getting into power is largely the same. By american standards they're all socialists. heh. Even the ones called "ultra-liberalists" (who I vote for) are FAR more socialistic than any american party, and they want to bring in the low low tax of 40 %.

I honestly think Christians as a group aren't as prone to it as Republicans.
I've met plenty of Christians who admit upfront that their faith doesn't have logical/evidentiary support, understand that arguments from faith should not be expected to carry weight in secular environments, and accept the legitimacy of secular institutions in society (e.g. government, public schools, research, etc.).
I don't think most avid conservatives are even aware that they're engaging in faith-based reasoning, nor do they understand that arguments from faith deserve to be dismissed by others, nor do they accept the legitimacy of secular (i.e. not explicitly conservative) institutions.
Maybe it's just an American cultural thing though. Here there's a pretty high overlap between Christians who make fallacious arguments about God, and people who've adopted conservative political views.

Alive Inside - The effect of music on an old mind

xxovercastxx says...

The idea of being senile, crippled, and confused in old age is one of those things that terrifies me, but what's worse is the idea of being crippled and unable to communicate but being completely alert and aware on the inside. This video has reinforced that fear in a big way.

But it's beautiful.

86-Year Old Gymnast Puts You to Shame

westy says...

gymnastics is fucking boring. ( mostly due to the stuffy nature of the competition ) , most of my anger is from having to watch hours and hours of it.

But as a way to keep fit and healthy in old age really good and its really nice that presumably this is something she enjoys and for old people to have something social and healthy to do is always good.

Just think as well by maintaing allot of the basic gymnastic skills of tumbling how less likely an older person would be to brake a hip or fall over in the first place. If they do fall over then they will know how to fall in a way that does less damage.

I really hope I don't have a fucked up body when i get older , or if i do IT and VR have got to the piont that its not an issue.

The Coming Neurological Epidemic

Drachen_Jager says...

You know... This is completely politically incorrect, but...

The boomers raped the economy, created one of the biggest world market crashes in history, were in power, both in elected office and by holding the balance of power in votes during the greatest shift between rich and poor (in the direction of the rich) in recent history and they racked up the biggest debt in history, leaving it to future generations to pay back.

In short, they've screwed the world for the rest of us.

Now they want billions of dollars for research and treatment so they can hold on for longer in their old-age homes and wipe out the inheritance?

Seriously? While young couples scrape to take care of their kids, and dream that one day, maybe they'll be able to afford higher education, if some of this crap gets sorted out.

I say screw 'em.

Let their brains rot. We shouldn't be spending another dime on them.

Of course they still vote in massive numbers, so that will never happen. They'd rather have children starving in the streets than suffer the slightest discomfort. They'll just rack up another few billion on the deficit for everyone left behind to pay off. What do they care? By the time anyone in power develops the backbone to actually DO something about the situation they'll be long dead.

Looks like the dogs had a blast but I see some bulldogs and can't believe a dog didn't lose an ear. My american bull dog is pretty calm now in his old age around other dogs, but to leave him unleashed with a ton of other dogs?

-Good DNA
( just a dice roll if you are to born with or without any of the shit)
-Healthy food - preferably low calorie diet and diverse lots of frute vegetables , fish and small amounts of red meat.

-Daily low impact exercises

-Low stress environment ( probably due to wealth)

- low polution enviromnt thorgh life ( sum one living in a city or in a high povity area is unlikely to last to old old age)
-support infrastructure , family , friends , community

Those are the factors that allow for long life Its quite simple but the fact is you don't control allot of them so might as well just kill your self and be done with it.

I honestly think it could be up to 80% DNA.

lol probably although people in general are living longer due to healthy low stress living and good medical care but yah to be as fit as she is at that age she probably rolled the lucky dice.

There have been some interesting documentaries about age and how some islands of people live longer because there bodies have evolved due to the environment and food sources around them and that happens to coincidently benefit them for old age.

Cat Base Jumps Without A Parachute

Auger8 says...

"He limped a bit after the grain truck incident,..." LOL Couldn't stop laughing at that point.

Ya I had a tom cat that slit it's belly open one time in a fight, I could see his intestines even, I bandaged him up gave him penicillin shot's a few days in a row and he was just fine for years didn't even stitch him up. Well that part was more his idea then mine but you get the picture here.

Uhh, That cat just died. Or it was badly hurt. Look at the view and things in the distance. This window is at least a second floor possibly 3rd

I grew up on a farm and can assure you that cats are tough. We had one that survived a fight with a muskrat, only to snag itself on a fish hook which was deep enough that some of it was left in him, and he then went on to be fully run over by a loaded grain truck. He limped a bit after the grain truck incident, but ultimately lived on to die of old age.
