Puppy Determined To Get On Treadmill

Asmo says...

Oh ya poor dear, dealing with all the tedium... Well how about the tedium of reading a report from the ASPCA recommending against breed specific bans...

http://www.aspca.org/about-us/policy-positions/breed-specific-legislation-1.aspx

See, I've yet to see any hard scientific data proving that nature > nurture in terms of dogs, and it seems like the ASPCA (who you'd think would know a thing or two) agree with me... The biggest factor they estimate? Male dogs that aren't neutered (not breed specific), which is a nurture issue.

Oh yeah, my dog has been around my 3 year old son since he was an infant and has never even been vaguely aggressive. My son can also order the dog off a bone and she'll obey because (surprise surprise) I've trained her that he sits higher in the hierarchy. You know, the sort of thing a responsible dog owner does.

It speaks volumes, though, that a person so concerned with banning supposed vicious breeds can't spend their time contributing to the discussion without attacking other posters who disagree with them. And while animals might turn on people, they are animals without the benefit of higher sentience. What's your excuse?

It would be really tedious picking apart your comment in full. Suffice it to say you demonstrate that you have no clue regarding animal psychology. A couple of points though; Pit bulls, as with ALL fighting dogs were bred for, guess what, fighting. And, though any animal can "turn," fighting dogs have a higher propencity to attack with no warning, which is why so many countries have banned them. You say that you "established dominance" with force (wrong). However, just because you are the alpha, it does NOT apply to other people. I don't suggest you get a child to take its bone away. Dogs, you should know, have a heirarchy structure. Finally; your wife was, you say, maulled? Circumstances? Your son was bitten so the dog was "chained up?" You were attacked by an otherwise docile horse? Well, you ask, what does this prove? My friend, it goes a long way in demonstrating that you, and yours, should keep away from animals.

Bob Barker (Price is Right) can be quite a dick sometimes

Orz says...

My question is, does this show drive you to treat people that way? How many years do I have to wait before Drew Carey starts acting like a dick? (I think they neutered him from the start so who knows)

I want a mission where I'm part of an Anti-aircraft battery. You have to hit the wing suited spec-ops guys as they fly in. If you miss a dog near you laughs before running out in to the field and neuters them before they can do anything.

Now that I know what popular musicians and actors think, I can go make informed, educated voting decisions of my own.

I don't understand all the irritation toward Hollywood types who voice opinions on issues, as if it's believed their opinions are more important because they are "stars" or something. If I felt strongly about something and was asked about it, or just had cameras pointed at me all the time, I'd sure as hell use whatever medium was available to me to rant or rave about it.

Remember to get your pets spayed or neutered. Save the whales. The oil industry is hiding a 100mpg engine that runs on water. Single payer now. Legalize marijuana. Repeal the ridiculous Federal Switchblade Act.

Police Militarization in Anaheim, CA

Why do I always have to be the adult here?
In a large city like Anaheim you undoubtedly need a permit to march, which these people probably did not have, so therefore the demonstration is unlawful, and highly irritating to the people who work for a living and have to drive back and forth to work, the store, the childcare, the doctor, etc.
And the cops have to deal with people who are anarchists or just drones, and it's hard to tell them apart, especially when they hide behind anonymous avatars and say things like "KILL PIGS".

The revolution will not have a permit.

There is nothing more offensive or frightening to me than the idea that peaceful protesters should be required to get a permit. If a government is corrupt or unpopular enough to spawn widespread civil unrest and disobedience, why would that same government aid protesters in its own removal? It wouldn't. What it would do in a nominally 'free' democracy or republic is clamp down slowly yet inexorably on basic rights of the citizens. In America, our government has a big roadblock to that goal, however the Justice Dept. is proving to be nimble minded enough to figure out some very clever ways to conquer that problem.

So far, imho, their most creative solution to: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" is to assert that although the government might not have the right to "prohibit the freedom of speech" per se, they do have the right to tell the people when and where they can do it.

Almost always the acceptable time and place to protest is in a "Protest Zone" that the government sets up out of sight and sound of the media and reason for the protest in the first place, thus neutering the protest in toto.

"Protest Zones" are a disgrace to our constitution.

Unban choggie, blankfist and dft. (User Poll by MrFisk)

enoch says...

i see where fisk is coming from and the anarchist in me agrees.
i fully understand that some people seek and desire cutesy marmalade syrupy cute kitty/animal videos and that is their thing.
no judgement here but some of us actively seek out the obscure, dark and inspired videos that are becoming a rare commodity on this site.
videos that challenge our preconceived notions and make us ponder and contemplate, inspire us to think or feel in a different manner.

mrFisk is pointing out the fact the community of sifters who engage and post content such as described above is becoming smaller and smaller, and the sift suffers because of this collective neutering.we know full well who posts the eclectic, obscure and controversial and we recognize our dwindling numbers.
blankie and choggie challenged conventional ideas and were supremely vocal while they did it,and yes, could oftentimes be total dickwads in the process.
passionate people tend to behave like that.
they cross lines.
they speak before they think things through.
they offend tender sensibilities.
but fuck all if they didnt make ya stop and think for a second.

these are the people who add a dynamic to a community..
a diversity that is so badly needed.

so yeah,
when a few members of that small group leave (for whatever reason) the rest of us take notice and the sift suffers as a whole.
the voice is diminished, the message diluted and what is left is the gelatinous vanilla goo of a uninspired collective group-think.

blankie and choggie had something to say and people like fisk and i appreciated them for that, even though we may have disagreed.
and you are right @speechless.
there are other sites and venues to speak what is in our hearts and what is on our minds, and many who once lurked on this site have migrated enmasse,to the sifts detriment.
which is exactly MrFisks point.
a point you have decidedly missed.

i am not condoning nor defending choggie and blankies behavior (and others) all i am saying is that they brought a unique and interesting perspective to the sift and now we are all diminished due to their defunct silence.

through conformity there is stagnation.
you have been warned.

on a side note:
thank god DFT is still around and keeping it old skool!

oh..and *promote this poll!

WHY do you people insist on feeding the troll?

Since this appears to be a promo for a legit neutering campaign, I'm gonna go ahead and say *viral.

I wasn't the least bit offended or bent out of shape or anything by this, but I don't see the humor. I think FoD and I are just on opposing wavelengths or something.

I admit the double speedbag gave me a little chuckle, though.

Promote male genital mutilation (cause it's funny?)
Sorry - no upvote from me.
What makes this different from female mutilation? If a joke was ever made that inferred that female genital mutilation was funny, would people laugh?
Edit: I see this is in WTF but my opinion stands.

Apparently it's an ad campaign to get people to neuter their cats and dogs, hope that makes you feel better
