Alan Grayson on the Offensive again

shuac says...

>> ^GeeSussFreeK:
I enjoyed him grilling Bernanke , but this just seemed like self congratulatory non-sense, I thought I was watching Micheal Moore. Anyone else get the same sentiment?

Nonsense? Really, nonsense?

You remain true to your namesake. Well done.

Bucky Balls

Drachen_Jager says...

Carbon Bucky Balls and the more useful Bucky Tubes are probably the coolest thing we'll see in our lifetimes.

Wikipedia "In 2000, a multi-walled carbon nanotube was tested to have a tensile strength of 63 gigapascals (GPa). (This, for illustration, translates into the ability to endure weight of 6300 kg on a cable with cross-section of 1 mm2.) Since carbon nanotubes have a low density for a solid of 1.3 to 1.4 g·cm−3,[5] its specific strength of up to 48,000 kN·m·kg−1 is the best of known materials, compared to high-carbon steel's 154 kN·m·kg−1."

That's 311 times stronger than high carbon steel, when they figure out how to mass produce them it will absolutely revolutionize materials science, things that are completely out of reach now like a space elevator will become possible. This is science fiction in real life and probably in most of our lifetimes.

So... Pretty cool name, the lame magnets really don't measure up to their namesake at all.

Boards of Canada - Everything You Do is a Balloon

Krupo says...

Saw the original safety vid on the sift as well. With this music going, it's so *dark. Agree with the *wtf'ing too.

And since they're Scottish, *British.... and *Canada because NFB is their namesake.

I'm tired of being victimized (Documentaries Talk Post)

jiyanibi says...

Damn! And my only desire to get a star was so I could downvote this guy's irritatingly ignorant comments. *shrug* Oh well. I'm sure someone just like him will be along soon enough.

BillO, I hope that for your sake some day we'll overturn Prop 8, so that you and your namesake sweetheart can come visit our fair state and wed in unrelenting, fear-mongering, god-loving, gun-toting, liberal-hating bliss. We'll miss ya, buddy.

Rick Warren Urges Followers To Emulate Hitler Youth

13150 says...

Having in the past been a Christian, these things don't scare me very much. It worries me that people are so willing to be lemmings, but people like Rick Warren aren't militant (which is the major difference between them and a Hitler or Lenin). At worst, a group of people as "devoted to Jesus as the Hitler Youth were to Hitler" is going to make shopping less convenient as they try to pass out tracts and witness.

Of course, the saddest thing is that they could probably win an amazing number of converts if they'd actually follow the teachings of their namesake, but that would require actually working, instead of holding up a "me-too" card along with a stadium-full of fellow lemmings.

GOP picked the wrong candidate for president

9907 says...

It is so unfortunate that he did not get the nomination, if the republican party had any ounce of intelligence and truly wanted to reclaim they're namesake after bush, then they should have nominated Ron Paul. I absolutely hate the dualism our country likes to segregate everything into, I was all for voting Paul had he been in the final run. Fuck Republican/Democrat, people should vote for what is right for the country as a whole, this is not an election for prom king & queen it's the fucking presidency.

Reservoir Dogs - Joe hands out the names

Phil Plait - It's KILL-O-METER

Pprt says...

How about the fact that Canada uses British rather than American pronunciation and spelling?

I don't blame the gentleman for he is simply pointing out a variation of regional articulation, however he should refrain from suggesting that other people pronounce words incorrectly.

For instance, many Americans do not vocalize the "c" in "arctic", saying "ˈɑrtɪk" instead of "ˈɑrktɪk", totally omitting the fact that the original namesake includes a clear "k", however the former pronounciation is perfectly valid as it is well understood by American English speakers.

What's That Smell? It's a MINK Roast! (Parody Talk Post)

MycroftHomlz says...

Apparently, minks have an anal gland, much like beavers, which they use to insulate their fur from the cold icy depths.

No doubt, you, like your namesake, also smear shit all over yourself (albeit for entirely different reasons)...
