Huxley's LSD Death Trip

wazant says...

Touching.

I am not totally sure, but I think that was actually his first LSD experience (and obviously his last one). We don't really know how much he liked it. He did like mescaline though, and described his experiences with it in his book "Doors of Perception", from which Jim Morrison's band took its name. Also, that's 200 *micro* grams (μg)--"mikes" in the old lingo--not milligrams (mg), which is 1000x as much and would _really_ be something.

Nobel Prize for Literature goes to? Le Clézio! (Books Talk Post)

blahpook says...

"The last U.S. writer to win the award was Toni Morrison in 1993. Americans Philip Roth and Joyce Carol Oates have figured in Nobel speculation for several years now, but have not been tapped." Heh heh. Tapped. Sorry I couldn't resist.

But seriously I wouldn't mind seeing Chinua Achebe get it. I haven't always agreed with him on his politics but he's always been very insightful when it comes to race and culture. My second pull is for F. Sionil Jose. How exciting would that be?

Grant Morrison at Disinformation Con - Real Magic

gorillaman says...

Wow, that is not how I expected Grant Morrison to look or sound or act.

I'm reading Skrull Kill Krew. The premise of the comic is that shape-changing aliens disguised as cows get ground up into hamburgers and give super powers to the people who eat them. Weird and awesome.

Van Morrison - Into the Mystic

Van Morrison - Into the Mystic

schmawy says...

This video is likely never to be found again, as Mr. Morrison tend's to defend his copyrights with great vigor. I'll describe it to you:

The video is in black and white, with a young, long haired and possibly intoxicated van swaying at the mirophone, telling a screaming fan that he'd play the song if he'd 'shut the F&#k up. It was a great, emotional and somewhat downtempo live performance and since it was low light and black and white film digitized for YouTube, so it had both the feel of real emulsion and a soft pixelation, as you can probably sense from the thumbnail.

So, VideoSift, Sorry I couldn't find the replacement but offer to you instead this fascinating article by WFMU's website 'beware the blog', regarding an album that Van recorded to sourly satisfy a contractual obligation, wherein he sings off-the cuff songs about breakfast pastries and whatnot, with full mp3 of each track...
