Salvia is for winners! Or...

rottenseed says...

I always enjoyed this drug on very very very rare occasion. If you want to ever see what reality is like without your ego's filter (I know that sounds weird but it's the best way I have to describe it) I would recommend this substance. Plus it only lasts a 5 (sometimes scary) minutes.

I would say that this is the most mind-expanding drug I've done in the most simple of ways. It's the equivalent of showing old money an alternate reality by taking away his/her money.

Kids! Don't do these kinds of drugs: Some ways of being separated from reality and interfering with your memory are a lot like death. However, if you must do them make sure you are with people you trust and are away from water, fire and gas cans. Make sure there are people with you who can kick your ass or restrain you if you have problems.

Terry Riley "In C"

dystopianfuturetoday says...

This is an interesting piece. All of the musicians get the same single sheet of music to read. Every measure is to be played a variable amount of time and the entrances are to be staggered. As I remember there is a limit on how many cells (measures) are in play at one time. Depending on ensemble size, this piece can last upwards of an hour. I read an interview with Riley about this piece; he said he was under the influence of mind expanding drugs when he wrote this.

The last bit about our mind expanding when we're in a new environment is the reason I'm addicted to living in other countries: time dilates, and I get more mental stimulation from every direction, and when I go home, my mind just isn't as stimulated, time flies by, and pretty soon I feel like I'm wasting my life. And it really is the same feeling as being in a relationship or not.

Can't agree with the coffee analogy though because all that does it make me paranoid and give me the shits.

Don't thik I saw it.....my sift habits are minimal nowadays...I come to the unsifted, see the subject matter includes mostly political bullshit and people hurting themselves, and I change the channel.

Very little art, very little music, very little mind-expanding ideas, concepts, etc. Oh....did I mention the inane banter and the cliques of pricks, dicks, geeks, and no chicks?

Oh and formulaic, soul-less guitar-playing by gwiz and laud and praise from people who wouldn't know good music if it fell on them from the sky?

Apologies for not being able to return the message private.....These powers are not mine any longer, by mandate of the dag.....wouldn't want top hurt anyone's precious feeeeeelings.

I think most of us can agree that the number of channels can be overwhelming, even to experienced sifters. I propose that we categorize some of them, if we can. I've tinkered a bit with it, but some categories are near impossible, because they are pretty subjective, but others like "time/period" or "area" are pretty general. Here are some of the stuff I've mulled with (sorry for the wall of text):

Plato's Phaedo and Arguments for the existence of a soul II

Oh, you mean the "When God created the heavens and the earth in six days" part?

You consider that scientific?

When you speak of life appearing relatively recently, you realize that you are only speaking of our own planet.

You can't say the same for other planets, nor can you say the same for other solar systems in other galaxies.

You have to consider that the phenomenon that we call "life" is in itself a very specific chain of events, and that there are probably other forms of life somewhere out there that do not cohere to our definitions, but they are alive nontheless.

I'm sorry, but to claim that the Big Bang theory proves Christianity correct and Buddhism incorrect is speculative at best, and very arrogant.

In short, you have no proof. You are drawing a conclusion based on limited facts, the same as me, the same as everybody else, and your conclusion is, at best, nothing more than a guess, or a wish.

Plato's Phaedo and Arguments for the existence of a soul II

ShakaUVM says...

Mind expanding on that thesis?

Some of the central theses of Buddhism revolve around the eternal existence of reality. For example, the "Meditation on Love" states, simply, that since the universe is infinitely old, we've all at one point or another, been each other's mothers, daughters, sons, fathers, brothers, sisters, etc., and so we should treat each other as if every other person is both our mother and our daughter - because they were. It's really quite beautiful, but it doesn't sync up with the scientific reality that our universe had a beginning, and that in fact there wasn't any life until relatively recently.

Other lessons revolve around there being a constant number of living beings at all points in time, which disagrees with the science for the same reason.

The Christian idea of a created universe with a finite beginning and the gradual emergence of life matches our current scientific understanding. The Buddhist conception does not.

The infamous sandbag "interview."

And so long as we're giving credit for LSD, I think Albert Hofmann, Humphrey Osmond, Cary Grant, Alfred Hubbard, Myron Stoleroff, Richard Alpert, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and millions and millions of artists, thinkers, musicians, and creators (with thanks to William Pickard & Clyde Anderson) deserve to share in the credit of the promulgation and appreciation of this wonderful mind-expanding substance.

Aww, thanks everyone! I really needed a diversion the last couple months and what a mind expanding place this has been! From cricket to Dawkins, Physics 101 vs. incredibly stupid human tricks...love it. Farhad & djsunkid, I would never have thought this aging punk rocker could enjoy the techno so much...guess I needed the visuals to go with the sounds.
