LOL! So explain how the US became an economic Super Power the world had never seen to that point IMMEDIATELY after WWII? This was after the Great Depression. WWII generated US deficits of 24% of GDP in 1945, which has NEVER been surpassed since, not even today, with the current deficits of 13% of GDP. It is absolutely the case that without those deficits, the US wouldn't have been able to pay for the war effort, and it is absolutely the case WWII ended the Great Depression. Those "talking heads" you refer to are called "historians". They use things called "facts" to help form their conclusions.

Just how did it end the Depression? By reducing unemployment to basically 0%, raising demand for labor which increased wages, all the while retooling existing closed factories and building new ones to crank out all of what we needed to win the war. As a result, consumers had significantly increased income, which was pumped into the economy when spent. When the war ended, the government did a tremendous job transitioning back into a peacetime economy compared to total war mobilization, while building a massive military industrial complex to compete in the Cold War. Also, the average male American citizen was granted wide access to the first time to a college education through the GI Bill, resulting in a never seen before highly educated general population. It was the dawn of the US as one of the two global economic and military superpowers.

So what did we do after WWII? We ran surpluses in the 1950s by raising marginal tax rates on the rich to over 90%, and that was during those super economically disastrous times known as the 1950s, when the US GNP rose by 66% in that decade. Both running a deficit to end the recession and raising taxes on the rich are both things you vehemently oppose, yet it was without a doubt proven to be effective in our history. It's historical fact you can try to ignore, but it's staring you point blank in the face.

Try to dodge this all you want. I'd rather accept reality and try to figure out honestly how to fix our current economy instead of clinging to a rigid ideology which has been clearly proven to be wrong in our national history.

Just watch Bill Kristol on any Jon Stewart appearance...the guy is a moron. What's worse is he's a moron when arguing with Jon Stewart who has very limited knowledge of the military industrial complex.

This guy spends the whole video telling us what the symptoms are but ignores what got us here and how to fix it. No surprise the anti-free market (anti-freedom) people are oblivious to it.

Government and bankers have been running a ponzi scheme for most of the last century: Economic central planning and fractional reserve banking. Bankers have been stealing more and more from us every year through money manipulation and taxes.

Inflation is not some magical or natural occurrence. It is baked into the system. It is direct theft. A gallon of milk has pretty much the same value as it did 50 years ago, yet the price has changed, why? And for those that say, well prices have gone up but so have wages so it evens out. Not true. In the arbitrage between the two, you're always going to be on the losing side. And that ignores the theft of savings, and ignores how bankers exploit that arbitrage. That is why we have booms and busts. Bubbles are purposely induced through collusion and fraud to financially rape the people.

Without the fraud and collusion, there wouldn't be trillions of debt. And tax rates would probably be at the highest 10%. Income tax needs to eventually be abolished. In a free world, you trade your labor for wages. The government has no claim to your labor, so why does it have a claim to the wages you traded it for? Taxing consumption above the poverty level makes the most sense. But that can never be implemented without first eliminating the tax on income. You tax things you want less of, you bailout things you more of. The government taxes productivity (income), and rewards fraud (bank bailouts).

How do we fix this:
1. Eliminate the cancer: The Federal Reserve. Eliminate the whole concept of a central bank deciding monetary policy in general. Allow free choice and freedom of currency. Force banks to disclose their reserve ratio to issue loans. The free market will probably force banks to hold close to 100% of reserves. And banking would also become more of a co-op system like credit unions.
2. Cram down all the toxic loans on the Fed's balance sheet to the fair market value of the home and renegotiate the terms for the home owner.
3. Close down the Military Industrial Complex. End all wars. Close down all foreign military bases. Focus Department of Defense on actually defending threats instead of creating them. Abolish the CIA.
4. Break the global oil cartel.
5. Probably have to break up the big banks and pass regulations similar to Glass-Steagall to keep them from getting "too big to fail". Separate banks from investment firms, insurance firms etc. Enforce real regulations that protect consumers, not the parasitic speculators. If a hedge fund makes bad bets and loses, then they lose. No bailouts.
6. Eliminate the false free trade agreements like NAFTA and GATT. Stop incentivising global companies to outsource production oversees.
7. Eliminate tax on production. (Income tax)
8. Ban health insurance. (The middle man) We would probably have to fully nationalize health care. (It is anyway really) And then work towards a system of free choice and volunteerism.

Probably more solutions, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. And yes, I'm a free market idealist.

Stop trying to deny/sugar coat it so you can justify your delusions about the purpose of it.

A covert deal with the military industrial complex to perpetuate war? Then why announce it at all, stretch it out for decades and decades. If this was purely a GOP deal, then to revert on it this far into a Democratic presidency seems entirely arbitrary. Political opportunism? I see no reason Bush wouldn't have announced it before leaving office to boost his party's flailing 2008 chances.

As it is I simply don't see any logical motivation for this line of reasoning.

I think it's more about the terminology (just saying "military industrial complex" triggers reactions, despite the fact that it's really just a convenient term for describing a complex issue because of the negative meaning that has been put on the word), personal ideas of what is good/bad, and a whole lot of ignorance on the issue of America's (and other nations') acts abroad and the facts/results behind them as opposed to just the surface reasons and the outwards political debate. I mean, hey, you can get away with a lot of questionable acts (I consider forcing other nations into your web of "influence" and basically stripping them of the ability to control their own destiny via CIA and other such methods wrong, but since morals are human constructs, unless enough of us agree that it's wrong and force our government to change its ways, those who make their own reasoning as to why it's okay will continue to do so) if you do them within the framework of an generally accepted "good" act. Different paradigms paint different realities, all you can do for people is try to point them to literature and info that can help them get over misinformation and hope their personal views do in fact align more with yours once they know more.

I still don't use a smartphone, but that app looks like it could be pretty amusing to play with for sure.

As for music, I've got a broken finger on my left hand that's gotta be in a cast for three more weeks, so it's somewhat on hold, but I need a reliable lead guitarist eventually and this gives me more time to look for one before i start trying to play shows. Got a short 30 minute set scheduled for mid-late May on campus, so that's something I'm really looking forward to. I've finally settled completely on trying to go for it with music, so after I graduate things will be pretty busy with that, but that's what I love doing, so hopefully I can find a decent-paying job that won't interfere too much. We'll see, lol.
