The Orville - Season 1 Gag Reel

Isaac Gives Claire Parenting Advice | Orville S1E8

Drachen_Jager says...

So... as far as I can see it, every clip from, The Orville, is essentially <insert comedy cliche here> but in SPACE!

WTF is the point in this show? I mean, I think some of what Seth McFarlane does is funny, but this is so hackneyed it's not even remotely interesting, never mind funny.

Orville: Ed & Kelly Argue About Their Past Marriage To Krill

newtboy says...

Was it any better? Episode 1 sucked hard, and commercials made episode 2 look worse.
I felt it suffered from the McFarlane curse, by which I mean when he's in a live action movie, he's just not that funny and always has to insert some touchy feely or serious storyline that destroys the comedy.
Seth....be funny, or be serious. You can't be both, and trying makes you neither.

Try episode #3.

Spawn - The Rise of Image Comics

ChaosEngine says...

I never really got into Spawn and Rob Liefeld... well, google Rob Liefeld and the first result is The 40 Worst Rob Liefeld Drawings.

It's also kind of ironic that despite Image's entire raison d'etre being "creator's rights", they ended up in a legal battle with Neil Gaiman over a character Gaiman created for McFarlane.

That said, Image are putting out some amazing work these days. If you like comics or sci-fi and you're not reading Saga or Black Science, you're missing out. Seriously, go read them now.

Side note: I know purists probably hate digital comics, and as someone who owns 5 volumes of Ultimate Sandman, I do like a real book, but digital comics are goddamn awesome.

"Some of the guys aren't even remotely smiling" Amy rocks it

I have seen a number of the skits from her show and while they often have something clever to them, they generally seem to lack a punchline. However, I find her entertaining in interviews (eg her appearance on Comedians in Cars).

So I thought maybe I just didn't care for her skits... Standup and sketch comedy are very different and being good at one doesn't mean you're any good at the other. A few weeks ago I found Women Who Kill on youtube and watched the whole thing. Amy was funny in that. Unfortunately, it's because she's basically performing Bonnie McFarlane's act.

I got to discover Marina Franklin, though, so that was a plus.

Robin Williams: Mind Altering Experience

Sagemind says...

I met Robin, several years back while they he was filming Jumanchi.
He was filming in my neighborhood, all filmed a block from my house.

But I met him in line a my local comic shop. He was there buying some action figures. He told me about how he tried to come into the store the day before but was mobbed in the street. He'd been looking for these specific action figures for a while and had tracked them down and had them on hold. (Wild Cats from McFarlane toys)

I was standing beside him for a bit before I even knew who he was. I remember thinking he was shorter than I'd expected. He was nice, collected and smiled as we chatted in the line to pay for our stuff. I didn't overwhelm him with questions or treat him like a celebrity. Just chatted in line like I would with anyone else.

He finished paying for his purchases and left the store. He was immediately met by body guards. who took his purchases and quickly disappeared (out of the way) as he walked up the street with his Publicist.

It was just a casual meeting. but somehow I always wanted to meet him again, so I could say, remember when we met in the comic store. I supose that will never happen now, though, it may never have happened any way.

Sorry to see such a genius mind leave us. I hope he's found his peace.

Yea what tipped me off to Jon's stance on these matters is that video here on the sift where he had an angry rant at Seth McFarlane for the sketch done on him about not cancelling his show during the writers guild strikes. It helped me understand him a bit better.

He makes an attempt at being 'neutral" but he seems to have some underlying issues with really supporting what OWS is trying to achieve.

Seth McFarlane on his feud with Jon Stewart

messenger says...

I'm disappointed in him for saying that the show should have pulled punches. He could easily have said, "I'm a huge fan of Jon's show and deeply appreciate what he does for the cause of rationality in politics. But Jon is a public figure and the show takes swings at everyone. I'm not Family Guy. If I personally were taking Jon to task about what he did during the strike, I would have been much more measured. But 'measured' isn't one of the buzzwords around our offices."

Instead, at 3:22, he says, "The gag that we did on Family Guy was coming from the right place, but was probably so over the line in its ruthlessness that it probably could have been more measured in its execution. How about that?" Lame.>> ^gwiz665:

Seth is not Family Guy. Saying whatever he wants on the show is one thing. They don't seem to pull any punches there, but for him to go out and smear someone in person, takes it to another level, and really he's too smart for that.
Moreover, the context of where he was here. In an interview with basically tabloid news, the host trying his best to egg him on to say something he might later regret.

I guess I don't know enough about the context, or I'm not connecting the dots. Care to help?>> ^gwiz665:
Consider the context.

Weak sauce from MacFarlane. I'm with Morgan on this one 100%. Since when does Family Guy have to apologize for crossing the line? Is there any other reason to watch that show besides seeing how much too far they take a joke? They make an art out of it. I'm disappointed MacFarlane is that afraid of Stewart, and of his publicist too, apparently.
